Majic 100 is one of Ottawa's most popular radio stations, and is often named the city's #1 FM…read morestation. Their slogan is "Today's Soft Rock", and they play adult contemporary music. I have noticed, however, that in addition to some soft rock favorites, they've started to play a lot more Top 40, or in their case, Top 20, than they used to. Their morning show is really popular, with weather and traffic. The John Tesh show is also a long-time favorite, and they even do an entertainment segment in the afternoon for all the latest Hollywood gossip, drama, and "news". Since it's officially holiday season, they're playing 100% Christmas songs, and even advertise it as "Ottawa's Christmas Music Station". Some love it, some hate it. It's just too bad they don't have a mix of a few Christmas songs here, and some of their usual music there. I do enjoy the holidays, but hearing the same jingles over and over is enough to make your head explode. They're really involved with the community, with charity and fundraising drives and local events. They run a lot of contests, including winning tickets to Sens games, prize giveaways, and even mini vacation getaways. Their request and contest line is (613) 750-1100.

I was recently on Sparks Street for Canada Day celebrations. I hadn't been on this street in well…read moreover a decade. It's funny how I used to spend so much time along this street, shopping or taking a stroll while visiting Ottawa. Returning it to felt different and familiar simultaneously. I was in front of the CBC Radio-Canada building. There was a local Ottawa singer performing. It was great. Moments later, it was all rain and thunderstorms, and we all dispersed. Adapting to change is the norm these days. Same goes with Radio-Canada. Radio-Canada used to be on the AM radio dial when it first went live. It switched over to the FM side, which is still the case these days. It's 90.7 FM. What I like about streaming is that you can get any channel that your heart desires, no matter where you are in the world. I listen to a handful of French podcasts these days. I also like listening to French radio stations. I blame this habit thanks to taking a bunch of courses in French in university, which prompted me to subscribe to L'actualité, the French magazine, for years. Instead of print, I have switched over to audio. 90.7 FM is the lighter version of L'actualité in audio format. It airs a news-talk programming format, all in French. The studios and offices are located in this building. It was pretty cool seeing it. I don't know if tours are offered, but I'd love to check it out. I've only been to the CBC building in Winnipeg, but that was strictly television. I didn't bother looking up to see an antenna of sorts on top of the building. I was too busy watching the performer sing and play his guitar. When the downpour occurred with lightning, looking up was out of the question! This station broadcasts Les matins d'ici, which you'd expect during weekday mornings. Locals need to know what's going on during rush hour, whether they are commuting or staying at home to work. There's also Sur le vif that also airs on weekdays, but during the afternoon. I believe that there are some programs that come in from Montreal. They are normally at odd hours that I'm not tuned in. I started listening to 93.9 back when it was Kool FM, when it played Top 40 music and all the…read morenewest hits. When it changed to Bob FM, I was pretty disappointed and I didn't know what to expect. For awhile, I wasn't a fan at all, but now I really don't mind it. My music tastes have changed, and I now find most of the Top 40 radio stations really annoying, since they overplay a lot of songs and the songs that are popular now just aren't as good as older favorites. This makes Bob FM so much easier for me to listen to, as they plays 80s, 90s, random music, and even 70s music on Sundays, and I don't have to worry about yet another techno song repeating itself incessantly in my brain. There are times, however, when I don't particularly like the selection of music they're playing at the time, but when they play one of those songs I haven't heard in awhile and almost forgot about, I think "YES!" I found Graham's content much more interesting and at a higher level with more interesting topics and guests, and not an anchor seemingly just "winging" it for much of the broadcast, which is my takeaway from Patricia Boal's and Bill Carroll's programs. This is why I also listen to CBC's "The Current" in the morning. I "Googled" Graham's biography and found that he has a Master's degree in Journalism plus many years of major broadcast experience, all of which is reflected in a higher level of broadcast quality.

They were making fun of how French speaking people speak. I called the radio station, but it was obvious that one of them answered my call because he laughed at what I said and said he found it funny. I am not listening to a racist radio station. If you want to know what quality on air personalities sound like, listen to The on air personalities at 89.9. They are funny, and never, ever offensive.

I've been listening to CHEZ since 1978 while I was living in Ottawa. I was in the Armed Forces, and…read moremoved around the country quite a bit, until my retirement when I moved to the UK for 21 years. I'm now back in SE Manitoba since mid-2023. Along these years, I've always tried to listen to CHEZ, as it was THE station to listen to in my late teens/early twenties. With the availability of CHEZ on the WEB, it became a daily 'pick me up' for my listening pleasure. Listening from the UK meant that I usually caught the late afternoon/evening shows, but nonetheless, some great rock. As a matter of fact, I am listening to CHEZ right now from my workplace, and have it available from my smart speaker at home. I don't listen to CHEZ all the time, but it's on my listening list for sure. I find the repeating vehicle sales advertising a bit much at times, but the 'tunes' make up for this slight annoyance. Country music stars in general are very friendly and warm bunch of entertainers. I have to admit to being very impressed with the Canadian talent I have had the pleasure of seeing at the local fairs and country music festivals around the Ottawa area, as far away as Calabogie. Canada should be pround for having such great talent in our population! This radop station has been active for over 40 years, and has changed and morphed with the times, as the music has changed and announcers have come and gone. IMHO, The "Classics show" on Sunday mornings is a bit too country music for me (although I do like the occasional Johnny Cash, or rock 'n roll cross overs from the '60s. Oh, and Dolly Parton. And... oh But I digress!) As with many current radio stations, they offer a rewards program, where you can earn points to be spent on a variety of things such as contests or tickets. The station is often present at different events around the city, inviting the public to come on up and say hello. The announcers also are very friendly. The occasion of this visit to the station was to pick free up tickets to an event at the E&Y centre. Thank you Y101!
