It gets crowded, so toddlers may enjoy nearby Primrose Park. A major plus is that the bathrooms are located inside the air-conditioned community center. My partner and I really enjoy coming here to play pickleball nowadays. There are 8 permanent courts. The courts are super busy on weekend mornings and less busy on weekdays. The queue system is fair and efficient. I only wish they would keep the pickleball courts open until later. They usually close around 8pm, which seems kind of early. In my opinion, this is one of the cleaner and better-maintained parks in the area. There is a pleasant walking path. I always see people walking their dogs here and families coming here for a stroll around the park. There are parking lots on both sides of the park, as well as plenty of street parking all around. However, when there are events going on at the park, parking can be a bit difficult.

The parking was plenty at 11:30am, I parked on the street instead of the north lot. The first playground was on a hill and another on the corner southeast side across the pool/skatepark. They had sand around the play structure and swings, so be careful with sand everywhere. Restrooms are open, they have a couple spread out the park. Great park, plenty of benches to sit and shade in most areas depending on the time!

Plenty to do besides walking, basketball, swimming, playing sports on the greens, skate (skate park), and many more! Hubby & I pass by this park almost daily since we stayed at an Airbnb for about 3 months just a few blocks away. Before 6 am, I see many residents walking already. At night I see many also play basketball at the courts. It sort of reminds me of Cerritos' Liberty Park. The walking/running area has the soft cement just like Liberty Park, easy on the feet. There's a playground for children. The grass is lush & green. We parked on the street, free. There is a designated parking lot for this park. I can see Hubby & I doing our walks here. Great park. The swim gym has 12 lanes. Will look into whatever else they offer when I visit it during the day time hours.

Instead of a weed-filled, dusty and unsightly lot, the community wanted a safe, fun space to take their families. So after a decade-long wait, the 4.3 acre park finally opened in 2012. AMENITIES + 2 quarter-sized outdoor basketball courts + beautiful murals & dedication plaques throughout + butterfly garden ( with educational kiosks & decor throughout - learn how to say butterfly in MANY languages!) + grass playing area + meeting room + outdoor picnic areas with shade available for rent + restrooms + skate park (partly in the shape of a butterfly!) + small amphitheater + splash pad (certain hours/seasons apply) + swings + various sized play structures + walking path CONS - so many weeds - graffiti - dirty women's restroom - homeless hangout (living in their cars) Even with these easily-manageable cons, it was still a pleasant park to visit. My 7 and 9-year-olds loved the skate park area when we were there on 7/8/22. The older kids were all nice. DEDICATION It warmed my heart to read the plaque next to a beautiful tree that read: "The City of El Monte dedicates this tree in loving memory of Gibson Mairposa Parks' 'Luchadora, Maria Rosario Valdez'. May her fighting spirit forever live on in our hearts. March 10, 2012." Not only are there basketball and tennis courts but there is also a small pond with ducks, as well as a huge track to get your steps in! I really appreciate them implementing security checks prior to entering the show since last year! It was very crowded but there was plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful fireworks!
