I interviewed 2 other teams and am so glad I went with Realty Design. They were the most competitive, I had peace of mind from working with them previously, and most importantly the other teams thought we needed to bring in an external designer or architect to map out the (simple) desired layout, but that was covered in a couple of conversations with Realty Design during our process. Our home is now almost finished and his work has exceeded all of our expectations. What a refreshing change! He has more than 30 years of experience and terrific sources we would never have found (a great honest contractor, amazing painter etc.); he can work within different budgets; he prioritized and is practical; he is creative and adaptable and really listens rather than simply producing a formulaic look over and over. Kenneth is completely honest and discloses all prices, sources, and payments he receives and does not steer you only toward pricier pieces to increase his fees (though I found he is often correct that quality can make a huge difference in certain areas). For example, he suggested refurbishing two of my existing chairs; he relocated existing lighting and reframed existing art; he found floor samples at the Mart; he worked patiently with items I found where possible instead of insisting on sourcing everything himself through "to the trade" providers only. He is also kind and though he is an artist he is low maintenance. His fees are not inexpensive, but he saved us money in the long run--while producing excellent work--you absolutely get what you pay for with him.

Jake took the time to talk through why a particular art placement made sense and to think carefully about exactly where each piece should go, given the context of the house. It genuinely felt like I was getting a private art lesson, and I learned so much! Once we figured out the placement of all the art, Jake was incredibly fast at getting everything onto the walls. He also took the time to swap out hardware when it made sense, which will no doubt make hanging these pieces in the future even easier. Since he left, every single person who has walked into our home has remarked on how put-together it looks. The only difference? Jake's art placement. Truly nothing else about the house changed, yet people's experience of the space is completely different. It never occurred to me to search for a professional art installer before, but with a new house and a baby on the way, I was especially motivated to get some help. I'm so glad I did. The art is actually on the walls, it went up faster and better than I ever could have managed myself, and I feel much more confident that everything is positioned in a way that shows off both the house and the art. Awful experience working with G&G and particularly the owner Ephrem. Initially everything was fine…read morebut after his team put the doors on the cabinets two of them weren't level and it looked bad. No big deal, easy 10 minute fix that Ephrem said he would take care of. I chased him down for EIGHT WEEKS to come fix it. Finally I was fed up and told Ephrem I was starting to get pissed, and he called me and BLEW UP at me. He started yelling at me and cussing me out, saying that 'he doesn't sit in front of a f**king computer all day like you do' and that 'you don't buy cabinets from f**king Home Depot, have someone install them incorrectly, then yell at Home Depot to come fix them". The burden was on him to fix, not my contractor because HIS team installed the doors, NOT my contractor. I asked him what the name of his company was and he literally said 'that's none of your business'. I was floored that I paid HIM, HIS guys made an error (a very small, easily fixable one), and HE promised to fix it, ignored my requests to come out, then I expressed my frustrations and HE yelled and cussed ME out. Shouldn't it have been the other way around? Is this how he treats all his customers? After eight weeks the door finally got fixed. I'm not suggesting anyone do or don't do business with him, but be mindful that if something needs fixing after the work is done he'll be very reluctant to help. *not sure why my profile says San Fran, I'm in Chicago.
