We had never used or considered art installation, but the house we recently moved into has an entryway with tall walls, and we had a variety of artwork that we wanted to hang in this space. We had a very vague idea of where we wanted it to go, but didn't have the time, tools, precision, or patience to do it ourselves. I found Jake through a Google search, and, from the moment I reached out to him, he was incredibly responsive. We set up an appointment within a couple of weeks of my initial contact (would have been sooner if my schedule had allowed). Jake helped us with everything from ideating artwork placement to color aesthetics. He worked through different options with us (including figuring out how to place the art in a way that worked with wonky sconces), weighing the pros and cons of each possible arrangement and talking through what they would convey. Once we finalized placement, he got the pictures up in no time, and worked hard to place some challenging floating frames we had purchased. It came together beautifully. His service fee was completely reasonable for the quality work he did, and I would have paid him at least double for all of the time and effort he saved us. Plus, we never would have been able to accomplish anything close to as beautiful as what he was able to do. Jake is an artist. Literally. He has a background in art and it absolutely shows. I do not have a background in art and although I have some idea of what I like and don't like, I'm sort of clueless. This is why Jake is so perfect. He basically went through my entire house and told me what to hang, where to hang, and how to hang. For our first project, I put together a series of photographs of my husband and his late father and Jake was able to put them up in a couple hours. They were perfect and my husband was so moved. A couple weeks later, Jake came over to put up mirrors, photographs, and art work. He worked away while I did some work in the kitchen and within a few hours, my house looked so much more like my home. The other nice thing about Jake is that he's a cool person. He's super friendly, easy to talk to, considerate, polite, and has an interesting background. He's a Chicago person through and through and it's fun talking to him. I have been working with Jake throughout the years and he is absolutely amazing! He has a wonderful eye for placement and will provide you recommendations/solutions if you are struggle with what to do. In my current home, he has installed 40 art pieces, with several of them being complex and a quite tricky. Jake is extremely professional - always on time, brings all his own tools, removes his shoes and wears gloves in order to not damage your piece. Most importantly he completes his jobs efficiently and with precision. He is affordable, compared to the other alternatives out there that are mediocre at best. Jake is a really incredibly detail-oriented professional with 15 years experience. You get a tremendous skill set at a value price - about 30% below the price of the other art installers that I would consider world-class. He provided not only excellent technical skills hanging multiple pieces for us but also some very straightforward design advice on how (horizontal as opposed to vertical for one mirror) and where to hang a few pieces. We felt very comfortable asking him to design the fixture to hang a 60-70 pound $10K mirror and he brought all the components for the task which he modified in his SUV after measuring the mirror. He is extremely easy to communicate with - both before and during his visit. Simply put, my father has been a full-time art dealer in NYC for 30 years and I would feel very comfortable recommending Jake to him. read more
