Then we get another bill with a higher amount after receiving confirmation that we owed the first amount. When trying to contact the billing department, you can only leave a voice mail. The email address on the statement is invalid. While their therapists may be wonderful, their billing department lacks in many ways, especially customer service.

I have two herniated discs and have tried just about everything, short of surgery, for pain relief. This includes seeing an orthopedic surgeon, three different physical therapists, a pain medicine doctor for epidurals, and an acupuncturist. In the end, none of those healthcare professionals could significantly reduce the pain I was experiencing. I wasn't completely sold on chiropractors based on what my doctors and physical therapists told me. Quite frankly, they didn't recommend chiropractors. My dad's chiropractor friend advised me to try acupuncture. My dad's neurologist colleague recommended disc distraction therapy. My orthopedist referred me to Midtown Neurology for IDD (intervertebral differential dynamics) therapy. Since my back pain stabilized at a low, manageable level (around a "1" or "2" on the 1-10 pain scale) and deterred by the cost, number of visits, and low success rate of IDD therapy, I did not follow through with that route. Already acquainted with Sherry outside the clinic, I'd learned she was looking for new patients. Life University isn't far from my workplace and I was told the services were inexpensive, so I decided to give it a shot. Life University has the largest chiropractic program in the world. The Center for Health and Optimum Performance ("C HOP") is a training ground for Life's chiropractic students. In a sense, the patients are like guinea pigs for the students. I probably wouldn't have come to C HOP if I didn't know Sherry beforehand. I know a couple of her patients and asked them about their experiences. I have to admit, I was apprehensive because I didn't want my back problems to get worse. However, I heard nothing but good things about Sherry and decided to go through with it. All student interns are monitored by a supervising clinician. In my case, it's Dr. Paula Rhodes. Dr. Rhodes was present during my initial evaluation and first few chiropractic adjustments. Sherry has been consulting with Dr. Rhodes throughout the course of my treatments. Dr. Rhodes is knowledgeable, helpful, and well-spoken. All the student interns work closely with supervising clinicians, so that should give prospective patients some peace of mind. The first two appointments consisted of evaluation, testing, X-rays, and paperwork. The first appointment lasted at least two hours. The evaluation consisted of a detailed personal and medical history and various body tests. The tests involved such things as strength, range of motion, weight, balance, and spinal measurements using computerized tools. One of the tests reminded me of a test in the Nintendo Wii Fit video game. Each of the clinic's departments is headed by real doctors, including the imaging lab where my X-rays were taken. Dr. Mark Maiyer oversaw my X-ray procedure. My initial treatments consisted of adjustments on the chiropractic table and Cox flexion distraction therapy. From what I've heard, the chiropractic table adjustments are pretty typical. The table is divided into different, moveable sections. The patient lies on the table. The chiropractor then applies pressure to various parts of the body and "drops" parts of the table. I believe this is to encourage/restore body alignment. I went through a few of these adjustments and didn't notice any difference in my body. That's not to say nothing happened, I just didn't feel any different afterwards. I do like the Cox flexion distraction therapy (http://youtu.be/YO8i681fc3E). This device is located in the Functional Rehabilitation department of the C HOP clinic, headed by Drs. Roxanne Caron and Joseph Haezebrouck. Cox flexion distraction involves getting strapped into another special table (an $8,000 table at that). On this table, the patient lies face down and his/her lower back is stretched out. While stretched out, the chiropractor moves the patient's lower body in different directions. Out of all the procedures I've tried up to this point, I feel immediate relief during Cox flexion distraction. I can feel my spine decompress and the disc spaces expand. The stretching and flexion motions are relaxing and therapeutic. Whether this will improve my back in the long run remains to be seen. During treatment, I visit the clinic 2 times per week. Each visit usually takes 30-45 minutes in total, but can vary depending on types of treatment. The treatments are indeed inexpensive. My evaluation was $24, X-rays $32, adjustments $15 each, and Cox therapy $8 each. Active students get a 50% discount. While C HOP does not accept insurance, I was able to successfully file health insurance claims myself. The treatments are also eligible under flexible spending (FSA). Notes: Students may observe during treatment. Going to a 15-minute educational "class" on chiropractic is also required.

I had put off going to a chiropractor since moving to the area because the majority of the offices don't accept insurance and want to throw this ridiculous treatment plans at you or ludicrous exam fees. I went to ribley and they just have it all down pat, and are super efficient and tech forward. For my first visit I had to bring my daughter and before I hit the entrance an employee had jumped up to help open the door for us. The restroom was stocked with diapers, wipes and a changing station which was so kind. At the first exam they did X-rays and the sweet ladies at the front were kind enough to watch my daughter while we grabbed those images. I have seen Dr. Tanner and he is great. Soo nice, easy to talk to and he works on Saturdays which is awesome. Even without insurance their exams are so reasonable.

But once I finally got checked in and met a therapist, things got quite a bit better. There are leads and residents at work here, some more engaging than others, some more attentive and on-task than others. It seemed like most clients coming and going were familiar with the staff and friendly. After more than 2 months with a low-grade pain in my knee and shoulder from a strain, I wasn't seeing any one person consistently, and it just seemed like the goal was to keep me coming in to try different exercises. I actually left there with my initial concerns feeling better but with an even worse back injury. The therapist didn't seem concerned about it at all, and I hurt for a week. Big plus is that they offer dry needling, ultrasound pain treatment, and more. I'd still recommend coming, but be prepared for a lot of waiting around.

I took it easy the rest of the day and by the following day I was worse. Being tough and macho, I decided to chill for the next several days to give my body time to recover. The recovery was minimal. I then scheduled an appt to see Dr. Audrey. She performed a thorough examination and assured me that no ligaments were torn. She also recommended two specific exercises and had me perform them in her office. The exercise seemed so counterintuitive to me that I decided I was not going to do them. It made no sense to me. I had a gig the following night and the muscles around the back of my right shoulder started to spasm 30 minutes after I started playing. It made for an EXCEPTIONALLY long 3-hour gig. I was desperate when I got home as I had gigs the following two evenings. I decided to do the exercised that Dr. Audrey suggested, ever so gingerly. I'm telling you; it made no sense to me but, my shoulder felt better afterwards. I did the exercises again the following morning. Felt better. Then again that night. Then 3 to 4 times per day. After 12 sessions over the course of several weeks with Darin, my knee is just about back to normal. Darin is caring, soft-spoken, humorous, knowledgeable, very patient with answering questions and gave me some welcomed advice on taking care of my knee at home as well. DONT GO HERE! silly me, I went to the same building as 25 years before to get an ingrown toenail…read moretaken out. I was told THAT doctor is no longer there. I should've tracked THAT doctor down, driven anywhere to have my nail done by them again, no matter what. I was like OK I'll go ahead and make an appointment. Really wished I hadn't. so I found it odd that they tried to sell me an expensive insole and some other product on my first visit. Cash grab. He's also trying to sell me hard on the fact that if I don't do the additional chemicals that the ingrown will come back. Which also meant a longer recovery. Even if that's the case it won't come back right away. I've had this procedure done before and I got to watch them do it. Not this time. He put a curtain up so I couldn't watch what he was doing. I told him I wasn't squeamish and I was fine and I'd love to watch. He says he does it for everyone. Now I know why. You can't watch him screw it up. The last doctor sprayed my toe numbed my toe, took a scalpel, sliced on both sides, pulled out the ingrowns put some ointment on bandaged me up and told me everything would be good and it was. As for this one, you couldn't be further from the truth. firstly, he didn't numb my toe enough. That's always fun. Secondly, they were a lot of instruments laying out on the counter. He was using on my foot. He was digging around a lot. I thought it was odd that this wasn't seamless. I was getting concerned during the procedure. I couldn't even tell what my toe look like after procedure before he bandaged it. He also told me I could change the bandage out if it bled through. I might blood through? I never got a chance to look at it. Until I got home the next day. I was really concerned then turns out for good reason. At the time of making my original appointment, I found out they had a medical pedicurist. I asked if I could make an appointment. She only comes in certain times I said, but my toe will still be bandaged up. Is that going to be OK? They said yes. I went ahead and went forward a week after my procedure and within a week I had an infected toe. Why would you tell somebody after getting a procedure and still in recovery, that it would be OK to get a pedicure. So either I got it from Dr. light or either I got it from the pedicurist. I kept having to come back in because my toe was looking really really ratchet and painful. now fast forward. On one of my last visits, he told me that I might have to come back and have him redo the whole thing. I'm like why? I can't afford this I can't afford the recovery time I work on my feet. Why would I have to go through this again. it's his business so bad that he does this on purpose. This is how he makes his money. I don't know what he did to my toe. He wouldn't let me watch. This is a fairly simple procedure. That's why it's done in a doctors office and not Hosp. . Please do yourself a favor. Don't go to the pedicurist. I spent 50 bucks for five minutes of an infection. It's nothing special. Lousy foot rub. She spends 30 seconds doing that and yeah it's not worth it. To this day, I still feel like there are pieces of nail embedded in the sides of my skin. Either he did not do a clean cut and get it all out where it's jagged and pushing into my skin. How would I know he didn't let me watch. either he's that bad or he wanted me to come back and have it redone The funny part is that the right side wasn't hurting until after he did the procedure on that side. He could've just done the left side where I was feeling the pain. But No now he screwed me up for life I cover my toe and silicone before I go to work, so nothing presses in. I'm really hoping I can live with this. I may have to go to another podiatrist and find out exactly what this guy did to me and see if it can be fixed. Now on both sides of my toe there is material irritating the sides of my skin. When I saw you, it only hurt on the left. Now they hurt on both sides and that has been from day one of recovery. Not that it felt great for a month and it all of a sudden became an ingrown toenail again. My pain has never ever ever dissipated. And that is a problem if I come to you to get rid of the pain and what you do to me causes more pain than when I started. I don't know how you can answer that and justify it in any way, shape or means. And I'm really pissed off that I now have to deal with this every single day and you know what I do for a living. And for you to not let me watch what was going on when I told you I was able to do that happily really makes me wonder what was going on I will never know. There's nothing you could say just nothing.
