Yet the 3rd song of the night was a line dance. The bride immediately shook her head and asked for it to be changed, but the song continued for what felt like 75% of the way through before it was finally skipped. The explanation was that he "couldn't find the next song." After that, the energy completely dropped. Several slow, low-energy songs followed & the dance floor emptied. The bride became so frustrated that she walked off the dance floor. Throughout the night, multiple guests respectfully approached the DJ to remind him of the couple's wishes and help get the reception back on track. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he became confrontational. At one point, he told a guest to "get the f**k off my stage" or he would stop playing music altogether. A wedding DJ's job is to read the room and, most importantly, honor the couple's requests. Unfortunately, neither happened here. The disrespectful attitude and refusal to adapt took away from what should have been one of the happiest parts of the evening.

That reminds me of the previous NDE I had toward the tail-end of May...my annual tradition of face-planting somewhere festive. Memorial Day weekend in Detroit is sacred. It's the only time of year when it's socially acceptable to fall face-first off a deck and a stage in the same 48 hours, provided you're wearing sunglasses, sunscreen, and a plausible expression of joy. I don't attend Movement. I haunt it. I materialize at Hart Plaza like a low-frequency apparition in a kimono and hot pants. I never have a wristband, yet I am everywhere: main stage, the VIP section, behind the frozen lemonade truck, briefly in the Detroit River (don't ask). This year's lineup was decent, I guess. Could've been better. I say that every year, and yet every year I end up on my knees in front of a subwoofer in the rave cave like I'm worshipping the bass as a wrathful deity. At one point, a man in a mesh tank top tried to sell me "artisanal molly" in a prescription bottle labeled Wellbutrin. I declined. Not because I don't party, but because I'd just inhaled some truly heroic rails off a stranger's god-tier cleavage and was waiting to see what happened (again, don't ask). Festival highlights included: - Being called "Ma'am" by a child in a bucket hat before he handed me a blunt. - Interrupting a set to demand the DJ play "Prince Ali" (1992 OG version, of course) and somehow succeeding, despite a crowd that clearly wasn't ready for Agrabah basslines. - Hearing "Deep Inside" and feeling every bad decision I've ever made vibrating in my spine and cervix. - Watching a man in full leather assless chaps negotiate a porta-potty truce with Grandma Techno (she easily bested him after she mowed him down with her Rascal). My Movement prep list for 2025: - Industrial-strength saline mist and tissues for when you get hit with a pesky Colombian cold - Emergency slutty outfit (weather inappropriate, crotchless, fierce) - Vintage Adderall (orange ovals for life, baybeeeeee) - Laminated list of local bail bondsmen - 1 tube of Vicks for the "traditional" reasons - Bra with enough secret hiding places to make the Underground Railroad blush By Monday night, I was 78% wild animal, 22% polite enough to order food without frightening the staff. My phone had a shattered screen, 4% battery, and 87 unanswered texts, most of them asking either "Are you still alive?" or "Who the fuck is Judith Merkintosh?" To answer the former: barely, but beautifully. To answer the latter: I'm a public service announcement with great tits and a world-class vagina. Just ask anyone at Regulars' Night. Yes... anyone. To say that they saved our butts would be an understatement. The photo booth is a big hit at our conferences so we didn't want to drop the ball now! I was a little hesitant at first to book a photo booth that seemed somewhat new to the metro…read moreDetroit area. We were doing a family reunion, and there was no chance of doing this over, or fixing something if it went wrong. I spoke with the owners of Red Carpet Reserved by phone, and they answered all of my questions and put my nerves at ease. I have booked a photo booth before, twice for work, and attempted to find the previous company, only to find out that they were out of business. My experiences in the past with photo booths had been hit or miss, so I was in for quite a treat when the day of the event, the RCR guys showed up almost 2 hours early, to help setup, unload, and make sure everything went smoothly. We booked their LED Party Booth, and it was awesome! The owner personally invited me in to take the first photos, and I was blown away with the whole experience. Words don't do this justice, but the best way to describe this is you know something works well when it looks, feels, and runs as simply as possible. We walked inside the inflatable booth (at this point strobing with lights), to encounter a sleek white stand, that looked like a piece of fancy automotive equipment, straight from a german car dealership. The booth itself was incredibly simple to use. Walk in, press the screen, and pose for your shots! That's it. By the time we walked out 2 prints were waiting for us, in REALLY good quality. This reminded me of the old photo booths I frequented as a kid at the movie theater arcades. Our guests were impressed with the props, and the service from the booth attendants as well. They volunteered to print extra copies of as many photos as we asked, and helped get people in the mood to take pictures, for those that were camera shy. They brought a full table of props, masks, signs, it was awesome. I was really impressed by the quality of the props. Prior to booking them, we considered going to the dollar store to buy our own, and the owner candidly convinced us otherwise prior to the event, guaranteeing us that we wouldn't need to spend our own money on props. Im glad he did that, as we truly were impressed. We never felt rushed or hounded during the event, as we were able to book and pay online, in advance, including receiving a completed contract by email. It was nice to find a company that was in touch with the modern world. They even allowed us to split the balance of the reservation into 4 payments, with no added charges. I would book them again, and recommend them for anyone looking for a photo booth for your upcoming family reunion, and will definitely consider them if and when I do end up getting married as well!
