May or may not be in love with this man, Curt. Cracked iPhone and came in today in a super rush. I only had an hour to spare. Curt put a new screen on in under an hour. He realized though, that something must be wrong with the new screen he had put on (it would bug out when making a call),and offered me a discount AND try another screen, hoping that it wasn't actually the phone that was broken, but just the screen he happen to put on. I actually needed the phone then and the for rest of the day, and was in a super rush, so he told me to take it and I had two options... 1. He could send someone TO MY HOUSE to pick it up so I didnt have to make another out of the way (Southie to Brighton) trip after the work day and have it ready by tomorrow... OR 2. Go to Apple with the new screen- dont tell them about the incident or that the screen was replaced, but just say the iPhone started randomly doing it. Apple will consider it a hardware glitch and give me a new one. He could have easily just told me to come back so that he can get the dough and fix it, but instead ushered me out with a discounted price and great advice. And he said multiple times "I dont want you thinking Im leaving you with a broken phone- What ever you decide, I will make sure it's fixed." This place was amazing! Curt was so awesome and the woman working there (I think his wife) was so, so nice. I cracked the screen on my iphone and then tried to fix it myself. It was clearly not successful so I took it to Curt's place. Within 30 minutes my phone was back to normal, maybe even better than before. He fixed the parts I had messed up, as well as fixing the root problem. On top of fixing everything perfectly, they were fast, nice, conveniently located, and friendly. A few weeks ago a friend dropped my phone and shattered the screen. I brought it to Replay'd in Allston and had them replace it. Two days later it completely fell off and damaged all the insides of my phone. I brought it back to Replayed and the owner was a total jerk to me and blamed me for it stating that, "we fixed it and it came off in your hands." On Friday afternoon I went to iPhoneCurt around 2pm to get my iphone 5 checked out (battery wouldn't hold a charge). The gentleman who helped me assured me that I probably just needed a new charging port and that it would only be about a $60 repair, which was amazing because Apple had just told me that the phone was dead and that there was absolutely no way to retrieve all of my information from it. I explained to the guy that I had to work at 4 and that I really needed my phone by the end of the day because I was going out of town the following day. The guy told me that with the repair we would be cutting it close with time but if it wasn't done by 4 he would be more than happy to drop it off at my work. This was definitely going above and beyond! He ended up running the phone to the restaurant where I work at 7pm on a Friday night and we did the credit card transaction over the phone. Amazing. Curt and his team have saved me countless trips to Apple Store. They know all of the tricks and usually sort out the simple stuff without charging me. So much trust and goodwill has be built up over the years that I don't bring devices anywhere else when a new screen/battery/etc. needs replacing. I no longer purchase protection plans with iPhones or iPads because it is cheaper/faster/better to just go to TechRescue/iPhone Curt to get sorted out and be on my way. My MacBook Retina display got smashed and when I looked at the Apple Store repair cost it was so ridiculous I thought I might as well buy a brand new computer! While charging my phone ( iPhone 7 Plus ) it shut off and would not show anyway signs of life no matter what I did !!! I was highly upset . And so I tired a tech service called PULSE , the charged me $40 to evaluate my phone and tell me that they couldn't fix it . I got even more worried and upset . If you're looking for minor repairs on your phone, perhaps this place is okay. I can't speak to that. I brought a desktop PC in for repair and the incompetence and lack of customer service was surprising. To make a long story short, I was told that my PC wasn't working likely because of a motherboard failure. But that to figure out for sure the problem would cost up to $300 in labour alone, as it would take 'five or six hours' to do. The top quote I was given was up to $1000, where a new mobo would cost ~$450. I was also told my mobo might have been fried because I was using a 'cheap' power supply. After struggling to communicate with whomever I was speaking to on the phone, I asked if my mobo could be replaced with a cheaper one. I was told, after being on the phone for around 10 minutes as I'm trying to evaluate a potentially $1000 decision on the basis of scant information, that being on the phone right now is costing him. In other words, make a decision now, otherwise you're wasting my time. I went to pick up my computer the next day, and I was told I'd have to wait up to two more days to get it as it was dissembled and the 'tech' was leaving in 10 minutes. I had to push to get it back in one day. Altogether I lost a week with no results. I then brought it over to Compustar in Allston. They called me the next day within two hours of opening telling me they'd fixed my computer. Nothing wrong with the mobo. Or with my actually high end power supply. It was just that my SSD wasn't syncing with the mobo and some settings had to be changed. Total cost? $90 for two hours of labour. Compare that to the ludicrous $300 TechRescue quoted me just to run a diagnostic. Something tells me this place might be able to make your iphone screen pretty. But when it comes to real computer repair, take it to real techs. These guys were out of their league and weren't able to admit it. That's why they were looking to charge me big money: they knew fixing something they're not trained to fix would take them a lot of time they could otherwise spend polishing iphone cases. Even though he was working on a number of other phones, Curt was able to replace my iPhone's shattered screen in under 25 minutes. He even put a fancy new screen cover on for free. I went to Curt for my first generation iPod Touch. I could only hear out of one ear, so I need the headphone jack replaced/fixed. When I went to the "geniuses" at the Apple store, they told me it was impossible to fix it and I had to send it in for a replacement. That would cost ~$100. So, I decided to drop by Curt's. He fixed the thing up, good as new, even though it had been a while since he tackled an older version iPod. He even gave me a discount from the original quote, even though he could have easily ripped me off. I ended up paying $45 for the repair and you can't even tell it was touched! All of my music and data stayed intact. He even offered to fix it for little cost if the repair breaks again. He was very personable and does the job very well, very quickly. If you're like me, you ruin your electronics all the time, in all kinds of fascinating ways. The good news is, you can destroy your phone in just about any way and Tech Rescue can still fix it. iPhone Curt and the rest of his friendly and professional crew are just so great! I've seriously been to this business at least 10 times since I moved to Boston in 2013. They have always fixed my phone (a laptop, too, once) super quickly. Here's a brief listing of some of the phone woes they have helped me resolve: I've cracked my phone screens several times; popped in the corner of my iphone; dropped the phone, case-less, in the toilet, sigh, twice; broken the headphone jack; ruined whatever mechanism allows for your phone to blank to black when you're on it so you don't just keep hanging up calls with your face; and just plain needed new screen protectors. (If you are as clumsy and memory-deficient as I am, I recommend the screen protectors, for sure. It's like a screen for your glass screen!) The bonus is that Curt and Tyler and co. are the nicest people. They'll make you laugh and are great at explaining tech issues for the layman. This place got such great reviews which is why I'm super disappointed to give it a not so great rating... I took my iPhone here after I had an accident with my water bottle (woops!). They said they'd take a look at it... 3 days later when I hadn't heard anything, I called back and they said they'd call me back and were still checking it out... 2 days later, they hadn't called so I called again. They said it was some touch screen issue and quoted me a price. An hour later they called back and said it was actually the motherboard and I needed a new iPhone - yikes! Price almost double :(.. womp, womp. The issue is it took them almost a week to get the new iPhone AND it turned out being a different color than my previous one. Not a big deal, and I wasn't willing to wait another indeterminate amount of time just to have a black one. But the lack of communication throughout the almost 3 week process really irked me. Nothing but friendly service, but I really would have appreciated being filled in and not having to call to check in every few days and get new information that way. It took forever! read more
