My iPhone 4 is out of warranty and the home button was not working. I knew this was a hardware issue as I did a completely new restore with no luck. I took my iPhone 4 to this location and left an hour later with my home button working like-new (it was replaced). Furthermore I got a chance to talk to Curt about what the issue was (button had gotten wet underneath apparently). Curt and the staff were very nice and helpful. He also told me that if I have any future problems with the home button then I should just come back to them to figure things out. HIghly recommend these guys! UPDATE: I just realized something after the fact that I should have included in my original review. I actually had to return to iPhoneCurt before making it back to my car because they did not properly screw back the back panel of my iPhone 4. It was shifting in my hand as I walked back to my car. Of course they took care of it as soon I returned to their store, but it's a bit scary that such a thing took place to begin with. If you have your phone serviced, really make a point to see if everything looks and feels back in place before paying and leaving. read more

As a manager at a Four Diamond hotel in Back Bay, who deals with guests on a daily basis, it's truly impressive to be blown away by another business' performance. I ran in 10 minutes before close with a screen that was literally falling apart. Staying late to avoid me having to wait was never an issue. The best place to get your phone repaired. Very professional and they will go out of their way to help to you. I went there to replace the cracked screen of a samsung galaxy S4. It was done at a very reasonable price! It was a busy Saturday so they couldn't fix my phone within 2 hrs the same day as they had promised, so Curt very kindly offered to drop it at my place in Cambridge the next day (and they aren't even open on Sundays!) I'll definitely go back to them in the future. My phone is as good as new now! Highly recommended! read more

The man at the front desk appeared to have zero personality or clue as to what his job was when I dropped off my phone for screen repair.. like a bored zombie or something. The man who returned my phone at pickup was incredibly kind and helpful and hospitable (guessing he's the owner). So that was a nice surprise after feeling very uneasy about leaving my phone in the hands of the first employee, who honestly could have just wandered in off the street and got behind the desk, given his level of engagement in doing his job. I would reconsider front desk staffing.. it was honestly unnerving, and if not for the great yelp reviews I probably would have passed on this place after that initial interaction. Anyway, the actual repair.. mediocre at best. The replacement screen on my iPhone 8 looks, feels, and operates like one of very low quality. The color does not match the black phone at all, but rather looks like a screen off of a gameboy or something.. the contrast is remarkable, and kind of embarrassing. I understand this is really not something to be embarrassed about, but it just makes a sleek, modern, almost brand new phone look incredibly dated. It honestly no longer looks much like an iPhone. Additionally, the colors are now way off and completely washed out. It is not the phone settings - I checked several times. It's the cheap screen replacement, which, incidentally, was not that cheap at almost 100 bucks. 49 dollars more and I could've had an original apple screen back on my phone. I guess it's on me to ask all of those questions beforehand, but a little information about service/expectations beforehand would've been appreciated. I suppose I never even considered that the screen would be replaced with one so incredibly different and after-market/cheap looking. My phone looks terrible now, touch screen malfunctions multiple times a day (freezes etc), everything sticks to the screen and seems to stain it (even rain drops??), color is off, weird patches of brightness in random places, all for $100. So that won't be happening ever again. read more

Well, the bottom broke in few weeks (while if it was original it would last for 2 years). He knew this would happen, and thats why he told me he would not garantee his own work when I was there. This is the best place ever. I cracked the screen of my iPhone 6 screen at 1:30, I called them at 2, arrived at 2:30, and my phone was fixed by 3 (with a new screen protector and case of course). My husband had bought me the phone and I told Curt that he had been giving me a lot of heat since I had taken my case off so my phone could fit in my clutch, etc. ..Oops! I can't recommend these guys enough! They even fixed the speaker that sounded a bit off and didn't charge me anything. It was impressive! Be very careful. I got my volume button fixed and screen replaced here and was really happy. A few months later I went to the Apple store to have my battery replaced and was told that the battery was already taken out and GLUED back in. There was no safe way to remove the battery now. The apple technicians are the only ones with the green tabs that keep the battery in place. I would never have know they did this if I had not gone to the apple store. read more

I will preface this review by saying I've taken my iphone and mac to them before and referred multiple friends, and would have given 5 stars. My complaint is not about the quality of the work at all, and Curt has always been a very nice and fair businessman. This time I brought my macbook pro in because I spilled glass of red wine on it (whoops!). It was Thursday, and they told me it would be ready "probably by Saturday at the latest." When I called on Saturday they weren't sure it if was done but said they would check and call me back. I didn't know at the time that the mac tech isn't in on Saturday so regardless my computer wouldn't be done until at least Monday. Wish they had mentioned it. To be fair, it was a difficult fix. However... When they called back I mentioned I had been told it would probably be done by Saturday, and I am a doctoral student working on my dissertation facing a deadline so it really helps to be able to anticipate. They said they "understood my concern but red wine is a difficult liquid and they cannot anticipate how long it would take to work on it." This is perfectly acceptable. However, I expect that when a business gives me a time estimate it's not just an isolated guess, and they would follow up on it. They then said it would most likely be finished by "early next week." By Wednesday I hadn't heard so I gave them a call, and they told me they were still waiting on a part that shipping tracking said would come the next day but that is obviously not a guarantee. I told him my deadline dilemma and asked that they just update me to let me know if it will not be done by the weekend. They told me that they "don't track individual pieces to see when things are done," so they would not be able to update me on the progress of my computer, and if I wanted to know I should just call them. I do understand the challenges and obstacles that businesses such as these face, and their difficulty anticipating the completion. However, to act as if communicating with customers is unreasonable is honestly just ludicrous. I prefer local businesses, but customer service at a large corporation would NEVER give an estimate and then treat the customer as if they were unreasonable for wishing they had been informed that it has taken 3x longer, and then refuse to update them further. They should not be making guesses that they then don't take responsibility for making. If I had received one apology in the multiple times I spoke to someone I probably would not be writing this review. All I ask is this - being told initially (or called once they realize) that it is a tricky problem and they will give me an estimate when know when they know more, and if that estimate is drastically wrong, they update me about that. Is that crazy?? They said it would take 2 days and it took 7. I paid $371 so I don't think that's too much to ask. I also asked for an estimate for a cracked iphone screen and they told me they do that for $120. They did it for me for $70 a year ago so it seems their prices have gone up and their friendliness/customer service has gone down. Sorry, Curt. Don't know if I'll come back. read more

Curt was absolutely awesome!! My dog spilt a glass of water on my 1 year gateway computer and it would not turn on afterwards. A friend refered me to him, and so I called and he told me to bring it on it. The location isn't the best if you don't have a car, but if you time it right you can catch the bus and Curt offered to pick me at the T station if I called ahead which I thought was super nice! I left him my laptop and he called me a few days later saying my mother board was fried. He was able to save my hard drive tho and for $20, he installed it in an external drive that I could use for my new laptop to access my files. Unfortunetly, I can't access the files I need, so I'll be calling him back to see if he can show me how to do that. read more

Quoted me a reasonable price (the part is very expensive, not their fault). I ordered it and anxiously awaited...called back when they said the part would come in and somehow it didn't get ordered. I was a bit upset, but I was promised that it was being ordered right now and that it should come in 5 days. Three days later, I got a call that the part was in. During my visit to Iceland, I found that my poncho pocket was no match for the epic downpour I found myself caught in while watching a geysir blast sulphur water into the air. Said pocket was storing my Iphone 4S and became more of a pool situation than any self-respecting hydrophobic iphone could handle. Into the rice the phone went, and a few days later, both the home screen and on/off switch had gone wonky as well as the camera. Beyond pissed and unfortunately, all i can do is give a bad review. Dropped my phone which resulted in a cracked screen. I bring it here because they advertise "lifetime warranty". After i get the screen replaced, my screen started to freeze. Brought the phone 2x after that to fix. They tell me to leave it to pick up another day. I come back about 2 months because of my complicated school and work schedule, he looks at it, takes It in, and tells me to come back in an hour. When i come back he tells me that because there is a crack on the phone they cannot fix it!!!! THERE WASNT A CRACK WHEN I LEFT MY PHONE WITH HIM!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter broke her iPone 5c glass screen. Found this place through Yelp and what a find. 20 minutes to get the screen fixed. They said it is usually 45-60 minutes. I lucked out!!! Checking your prices first, people. I called these guys for a quote on a touchscreen replacement for the iPhone 5. I was told $180. I was quite surprised since the Apple Store only charges $150 to replace the broken screen (or $230 to replace your entire phone), but the guy who answered the phone at this place had no interest in explaining to me why I should pay him more instead of just taking it back to the Apple Store (which I ended up doing; took them only 30 minutes to replace the whole screen, since Apple recently introduced screen-replacement machines within Apple Stores). Look, I'm all for third party repairmen if they offer either convenience of lower prices vs Apple Store. But when it's neither, I have no clue why they are still in business. read more

My Samsung Galaxy S4 phone had been acting strangely for several days, as if the ROM were flaky, and finally it stopped working (it would begin to boot up and then stop). I took it into TechRescue to Curt today, and in 45 minutes they had diagnosed the seemingly fatal problem, which was a broken power switch, not the ROM, and had replaced the switch at a very reasonable price, $47. It's working like new now. While I was there customers arrived steadily to leave or pick up phones, tablets, headphones and such for service. I and some others were quoted an hour or two for a repair, a few issues were addressed immediately, and one or two were told that a fix would take overnight. (This is quick turnaround; when my wife's cell phone screen broke, somewhere else took over a week to replace it.) Curt and the other two people out front were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, with a great sense of humor. In addition to discussing my non-working S4, Curt and I had an interesting discussion about some other technical issues. Much of the time everyone in the store was laughing and/or chatting, and one lady (in with her husband and a broken tablet screen) even gave Curt and Ariel (and me!) a hug. I wasn't aware of TechRescue before this morning, but I'll certainly be back. BTW, 100 feet down Washington St. is Athan's, a great coffee shop with tasty food, pastries, drinks, etc. read more
