Came here to buy some steel for a house project after I had gone to another steel business and felt like they quoted me high for the material I was trying to buy. I first called to see if they had the material and to see if they can give me a quote through the phone. Person on the line was very helpful and gave me a quote which was way more reasonable than the other business I had gone to first. I needed a small (12') length of angle iron for a home project. I called Tell Steel and they gave me a quote over the phone and it was such a good price I placed the order right then. It would've cost more than twice as much at HD. The rep gave me a time to pick it up and when I arrived it was ready. Every person either in the office or in the shop was very helpful. I waited a few months to post my review, as to avoid anyone getting in trouble. Let me clarify this. I AM NOT posting this to get anyone in trouble, but to bring attention to the terrible service here and maybe something is done to improve that. I am a long time customer of Tell Steel. I recently ordered material and showed up to pick up. I went to the will call desk, paid my material, and was told to go back around to the loading docks in back where I always load my material onto my truck. (same as I have every other week or so for many, many years) I got to the back and waited about 20 minutes for someone to show up, but no workers ever showed up with my order. At that time, a second customer shows up with his truck, and in Spanish asked me if anyone was here. When I said no, he waited a few minutes, and then walked inside to look for someone. A few minutes later, both the customer and an employee came back chatting in Spanish. The employee tells the second customer "let me get your order then". The second customer tells the worker no, this guy was here first, and the worker replies, "ah who cares don't worry about it". After they loaded his truck, they continued talking and having a conversation about the second customers business and what he was using the metal for, and after that a lengthy conversation about Mexican food. Its now been about 30 to 35 minutes that I am standing there. Its obvious that neither gentlemen realize at this point that I am Hispanic and speak both English & Spanish. When the second customer finally says he has to go, he looks at me and tells me to have a good day, which I replied in Spanish, thank you, same to you. Both their faces turned to each other as if to say uh oh.. The worker chuckled and said "oh wow I didn't know you spoke Spanish" and went off to get my order at that point. The second customer apologized, gave me his card, and said if I needed anything to do with his business, to contact him, and apologized again. The worker? No apology, gave me my order and left. Like I said earlier, I waited several months to post this as to not draw attention to that employee. I would never try and cost someone their job. But I posted it in hopes that the terrible customer service is addressed. read more

Definitely some of the rudest customer service representatives I've ever encountered over the phone. I called to make an order over the phone. I give them the part number I was provided through a quote that they gave my colleague. The lady's response, word for word: "Uh, that means nothing to me." She then transfers me over to a man. He talked endlessly about the description of the product without actually trying to understand what I was telling him. Rather than waste more time with this unhelpful representative, I went to go clarify the order with my colleague instead. After I clarified what I was requesting, this is how the conversation went: Him: Okay, I'll deliver it tomorrow. Ok? Ok good bye-- Me: Wait, what about my payment? Him: What do you mean, she'll send you the receipt later. Me: (Who the hell is he referring to?) Okay but what about my payment. You don't even have my card information. Him: Oh, we don't have it on file? Me: (What the f*????) 1. How are you going to take orders over the phone and not even bother to ask about the payment/where you'd be charging the service/product to? And ask ME if YOU don't have it on file? 2. Please offer some phone-courtesy training for your employees. They clearly have no knowledge on how to handle over-the-phone sales. read more

This place is not just another steel fabricator you know. They are one of the original steel suppliers in socal since 1959. I needed several pieces of custom steel plates fabricated for my pulling post and they got it done promptly. I called them sometime around noon while the workers were on break so there was about 20mins delay but my products were done right after. Price are somewhat steep so only come here if you need a specific dimensions but if price isnt a factor, these place delivers it hands down. read more

I have done several small projects where I need a very small quantity of material. I am able to get what I need from there remnant rack. They get 5 stars because the two people in the office I have dealt with have been the nicest, most professional representatives you could hope for. I wish I could remember their names. One is a young man and the is the lady with a desk on the back left. These two have helped me find everything i needed even though the grand total for all my projects has been less than $40. It is really rare to get customer service this good. On top of the great customer service, the prices have been fantastic. They were less than half the cost of going through another online vendor I have used in the past. read more
