The four supporting buttresses terminate in tin caps, each sporting the Star of David. The temple has been serving the area for 125 years with a brief period of reduced activity around 1940. Originally constituted as a reform congregation, at the re-dedication in 1954 it became a conservative congregation.

We finally ended our search a year ago when we found congregation Emmanuel! We are not regular attendees by any means, but when we do go then we are always impressed by the intimate and friendly atmosphere, coupled by intelligent conversation and a pride in Judaism which is often hard to find in the Deep South. Since I am a committed Reform Jew, it was important to be a member of a congregation affiliated with URJ (Union of Reform Judaism). Temple Solel not only was a member, it also was financially secure. The services are really beautiful and ably led by our Lay Leader. He makes everything accessible to everyone, reading the translations after reading a Hebrew prayer or passage. It is comfortable for everyone. I feel like we are a big family. I am so happy here.
