Today, I'm the proud parent of two Oakwood alumni, one attending the University of Southern California and the other at the University of Redlands, as well as an incoming seventh grader. Watching our older children leave Oakwood so well prepared for college has given us tremendous confidence in the education they received. What always stood out to me was that Oakwood never asked our kids to choose between academics, athletics, or the arts. They were challenged in the classroom while also having every opportunity to pursue the things they loved. Both of our older children played varsity sports throughout high school, baseball, soccer, and softball, while also thriving academically. Perhaps the best example of Oakwood's philosophy is our daughter, who is now pursuing degrees in both Neuroscience and Cinematic Arts at USC. To me, that's exactly what an Oakwood education represents: students who are encouraged to explore multiple passions rather than being placed into a single lane. Beyond the academics, Oakwood is a community that genuinely knows and cares about its students. Our children were supported, challenged, and encouraged to become confident, curious young adults. You feel it the minute you walk on campus. The principal sets such a positive tone, and it trickles down through every part of the school. Teachers and staff know every child by name, and that kind of connection really sets Laurel Hall apart. Class sizes are small, which means our child gets personalized attention and are really seen not just another face in the crowd. It offers that classic, traditional school experience you might expect in a small town, but it's right here in the heart of the Valley. Yes, it's a private school and tuition isn't nothing- but compared to others in LA, it's very reasonable for what you get. We also weren't sure how we'd feel about the church affiliation going in, but honestly, it's light and sweet. Think Christmas songs and mostly the focus on kindness and compassion (with a little Jesus sprinkled in). Nothing heavy-handed at all. We feel so lucky to have found Laurel Hall. They have a pre school adjacent... that I have done volunteer work in the past, and also have volunteered for their food pantry for a little over 3 months everyday straight... like 10 years ago. This church is a beautiful Church inside and out; especially during the Advent & the Holidays. Nicely decorated. Inside & outside. All are welcome, including LGBTQ people. That's what Jesus wants. Right? For everyone to get along, find their inner peace, harmony, unity, and love for one another. So ALL ARE WELCOME!! They do all types of services pertaining to weddings, funerals, baptism,& more. I have been to their Sunday mass few times in the mornings which starts at 10am & ends at 11am. Service has always been great, wonderful, & beautiful. Later they have refreshments to satisfy your sweet tooth, and fix your morning routine with some coffee. Their website has not been updated for years, & whenever I want to go and pray in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, doors are locked. It says on the website that it's open until 5pm, when it's NOT. Please update your website and be kind enough to open the doors, so people can go in and pray, if and when they want to! They used to have an evening mass that would start at 5:30pm on Sundays, and go a little over an hour, which was delightful for the people who attend mass in the evenings. Someone like ME! That went out the door too. Since a little before COVID, they stopped their evening mass which had a beautiful worship service, with their phenomenal choir, and band. I wish they can bring that back! Paster Jonathan H, is very soft-spoken and easy to understand. Get's the sermon going, and the baskets with the donations moving. Great Job Pastor J! Now, let's get to my Christmas Tree lot experience. On the 7th of this month, I purchased a 5 1/2' Noble tree which was $95.00 with the stand. Not including tax nor tip. I tipped them $7.00 for the great work that they have done. Trimming the bottom of my tree, and carefully putting it on the roof of my car. Thank you Mike & Brett!:-) Once they update their website hours, and bring back the evening mass, the 4 stars will become to be 5 solid, bright shining stars!!! Church is clean, they have a BEAUTIFUL GARDEN adjacent to the Church. Restroom is clean & quaint. Plenty of parking spaces.

There is a very dangerous bounce house in their parking lot on the weekend. We used to go there but…read morethere were too many unsafe incidents so we have stopped going. I've seen adults in the bounce house with children, there is no supervision, the security guards do nothing, nobody enforces the rules. I don't think the Church realizes what a liability this bounce house is. My son got injured too many times. People bring hard objects and toys into the bounce house. Once I saw two adults fighting there. Since the farmers market won't have someone supervise this thing, monitor the bounce house, it's just too dangerous. I wish they would get rid of the bounce house before someone is seriously hurt.

The teachers are incredibly warm, caring, and really take the time to get to know each child as an individual. They truly meet kids where they are and have been so supportive with big milestones like potty training and transitioning away from naps. The staff is also very open and communicative with parents--they're always available if you want to talk about how your child is doing. One of our favorite parts is the community. There are lots of fun events throughout the year like holiday celebrations, Shabbats, and restaurant fundraisers that bring families together. We're so grateful to be part of this school and highly recommend it to other families looking for a nurturing preschool community.
