Both are Reform and with great Rabbis. Temple Sinai reminds me more of a suburban shul, while the Tahoe Jewish Community or TJC lives up to its reputation as a more geographic community of Mountain Jews. The Reno Jewish community also includes Chabad, Temple Emanuel (Conservative), and an outpost for the Las Vegas-based Jewish Nevada Federation. Based on my limited Jewish Nevada-related observations, I'd say that Temple Sinai has great positive political influence for Northern Nevada. My experience with Temple Sinai has included (but not limited to): - A well presented session on Antisemitism at Temple Sinai, also sponsored by Jewish Nevada. - A well organized Passover Seder held at the Atlantis, led by R.Ben, R. Sara, and others. - Attending the annual Jewish Nevada Milk and Honey Festival in which TJC and Temple Sinai had a booth next to each other. My advice is that no matter what your level of observance or connection, take your pick, open the door, and come on in.

We are more than confident that she's beyond ready for kindergarten in the fall. She's learned all letter recognition, numbers, how to garden and many other unique life skills. The outdoor( Teva ) teacher is a true gem. You can feel her positive energy in the way the children and our child speak of her. She goes beyond and above for the kids! She gives you her cell number and allows you to call or text her if you ever have any questions. Honestly, I can't say enough about this school and the teachers. We never wanted our daughter to leave but are happy that she's more than prepared for grade school because of Alpeh and Ms. Emily!

After being warmly received by Rabbi Grossbaum, his lovely wife and their adorable children, it was hard not to come back. Unlike many chabad houses, the Rabbi runs a tight ship, services are timely. This is not one of those places that waits for the minyan they know isn't showing up. I've been to several chabad houses where they wait hours for the mythical minyan. Not only do services start and end in a timely fashion, they are filled with song, words of wisdom, and a very friendly atmosphere. No one is going to leave you hanging, someone will find you a seat, grab you a siddur, and if you're not fluent in the liturgy, chances are someone will show you the place. I'm especially fond of the community dinners that are held on one Friday of each month, I've "happened" to join in on a few of these and there's nothing like a good home cooked shabbat meal with freshly baked challah.

If you are unfamiliar with Chabad Inc, they are a worldwide movement of Chasidic Orthodox Jews who follow the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Back in the old country, Chasidic Jews were kind of rebels who championed the piety of the common man, thus these people will always have a soft spot in my egalitarian heart. I am not a traditionally Orthodox person and I do not agree with all of the Rebbe's ideas, but you know two Jews three opinions and all that. The center is run by a wonderful and hardworking husband and wife team. I really cannot fathom how they manage to pull this off, but I am extremely grateful that such a high quality Jewish resource exists in this area. They have programs for men, women, kids and teens. There are also services on Saturday mornings and holidays.
