Its a small church so it is easy to build relationships. There are so many friendly people there and even the pastor will most likely say hi before you leave. They have programs for children and youth and young adults and are very involved in the community. They also have absolutely beautiful worship and an overall wonderful atmosphere. The services are open to the public, but your prayers can be fulfilled with a bought on your knees your lighting a candle anytime you need. The church keeps its doors open to the public during business type hours for public use. A small candle donation is not required but appreciated. The Catholic population of Reno was vast in the early years with no place of worship or fellowship. The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1906. In June of 1908 the cathedral was dedicated. All worship services were in full swing, but a fire destroyed the roof in 1909. It was rebuilt and rededicated in 1910 where it still stands tall for all to come. The first Bishop of Reno, Thomas Kiely Gorman was set as the Diocese of Reno. Through the years many restorations have taken place to retro fit the foundation. In the 1950s a wrap around mural surrounding the alter was installed. A one of a kind mural painted by Edith and Isabel Piczek, is considered "to be one of the finest works of its kind in America." The theme of the mural depicts "Adoration of the Lamb of God, our Lord in the Blessed Eucharist." The message of the mural depicts how important the modern family should accept sacrament for communion for their lives and the community. The murals presents images of "Saints from the Old Law," Abel, Moses, Ruth, Abraham, and Isaac in all their glory. Depictions of John the Baptist and the Lamb of God are presented in all majesty. The call of angels is a truth of faith in Catholic teachings. The door of St Thomas is adorned in all copper with two angels on either side. We dwell in constant companies of angels keeping us safe. It is interesting that the Saint Aquinas, related discussions of angels to location. This saint discusses: "could an angel be a non physical being said to occupy space?" The realm of the angels these days and the early thoughts from Aquinas have led to much of the mechanics of quantum physics. It's a mighty majesty to place angels and you can ponder their glory in an Aquinas dedication to his reverence. As the large copper doors are open to all. Come in and find yourself. Talk to the maker. Use the services to help yourself and those around you. May your faith be strong no matter what you believe or follow. Happiness is yours just listen and accept the blessings that surround you. Amen! May grace, serenity and peace be yours always!

My Journey to Finding a Church Home I started going to Rock…read moreChurch last Christmas, and it all began with the Ugly Sweater service. That one experience told me everything I needed to know--this was the church for me. Their "come as you are" and "all are welcome" message isn't just something they say--it's something they live. Let me start by saying I'm 62 years old. I've always considered myself spiritual, but not necessarily religious. Maybe it has something to do with the 12 years I spent in Catholic school. Faith has always been important to me, but I never quite found a church community that felt like home--until now. A few things immediately put me at ease and made me realize this was the church family I'd been searching for. Pastor Rebecca shared openly about her struggles with faith--how she questioned it many times over the years. That honesty made me feel seen and reminded me it's okay to wrestle with doubt. In later services, she continued to speak vulnerably about her faith, her family, and even her own challenges. She's real, and that means everything. Every time Pastor Rebecca speaks, I feel like I'm learning something. She breaks things down in a way that's approachable--combining scripture, educational insight, humor, and vulnerability. She doesn't preach at us--she invites us into the message. Pastor Connie is the real deal too. She's not overly polished or rehearsed, and her messages always give me something to reflect on. She shares from her own life experiences, which makes her so approachable and genuine. She's encouraged us to listen for God, to be patient, to trust that prayers will be answered in His time. Most of all, she reminds us that God is in our corner--not judging us, but loving us and lifting us up. She's also spoken about the fears we all carry--not just for ourselves, but for the marginalized and vulnerable in today's world. She doesn't shy away from tough topics but meets them with compassion and truth. There was a time when I walked out of a Christmas service at another church feeling completely discouraged. The head pastor told the congregation that some of us weren't going to make it--and I left that day wondering if I'd ever find a church that inspired me to do good, to be good, and to believe that God truly wants us to succeed. A place where Jesus is more than a symbol--He's a friend, a brother, an example to live by. And I'm happy to say I've finally found that place. Rock Church has become the spiritual home I didn't even realize I was searching for. I'll be honest--they encourage us to participate and get involved, and I haven't quite stepped into that yet. For now, I've been watching from afar, soaking it all in. But something in me knows... I won't be sitting on the sidelines forever. And I haven't even mentioned the worship team--amazing! The music is so moving, and sometimes Pastor Connie or Pastor Rebecca are right up there, singing or playing guitar. It's not a performance--it's worship. I can truly feel the Holy Spirit through the songs, and there have been moments when I've been brought to tears. So, if you're someone still searching for a place where you're accepted as you are... a place that feeds both your heart and your mind... a place where faith is real, honest, and alive--this might be that place for you too.

I tried to be of service too but didn't end up getting a job there . I ran into hardship eventually and we ended up not pre paying for day care at some point and was told we needed to leave work and come get the children. I believe we were 50 bucks behind . This is when the church went completely sideways, I would get calls almost daily asking for the 50 dollars , I had pulled the kids out of day care completely and found other means , at the time we started even using the food pantry because we were struggling so bad , Andy was head of music , he would give me a reminder every Sunday of what I owed too , even when I showed up to pick up food from the food pantry, I can't remember if it was Andy's wife , I think it was , I'm not certain but a lady literally made us feel so terrible for being so broke , I have never had a church make me feel so ashamed for not paying them money ( 50 bucks sadly ). I even asked if they could just help me with it or hold off until I get back on track . But they never let me live it down . It seems so petty . I know, it's been over 6 yrs now and I'm doin really great today , thank the good lord and I'm currently looking for a church again , I have not been back to a church since then . I really wanted to share this experience because it truly hurt my heart . I hope they are not this way still but it really felt like they all were clicked up with each other and had no problem shaming you tell you leave . They continued calling for a good long time too . It was a very sad story all the way around . All over 50 dollars, I'll never understand.

I have been to two musical performances here and have been duly impressed by this magnificent…read morevenue. We had the opportunity to listen to the organ concert here two weeks ago. What an amazing experience. While sitting in the pews, you are literally surrounded by the pipes so the entire church functions as a sound box. The beautiful stained glass windows and soaring wood ceiling only enhance the entire experience. There are regular musical performances here and the website has the schedule listed. The organ concerts are only 30 minutes long and are most Fridays.
