I LOVE this barbershop. Starting with the fact that it is cheap -- just $25, though I and many other satisfied customers often give a $5 tip. There's a surcharge for credit cards, which I think is a good thing, those who pay in cash should not be subsiding those who use credit cards that cost small businesses a lot of money. While all their haircutters, at least currently, are women, they seem to focus mostly on men's haircuts. I usually use Kim, who is only there from 10am-4pm, but the other hair cutters are great, too. As otherss note, by sticking to one barber, they get to know your hair, the results are generally better and a little faster because they know what you are looking for and can plow right in, to to speak. Kim is particularly skillful in the way she uses the electric hair trimmers. In summary, for a very low-priced friendly barber in the Tenleytown area, you cannot do better than this place. read more

Absolutely terrible! Worst haircut I've honestly ever had in my life, and she was very rude I had to ask her multiple different times to fix my hair (honestly never have done that) she didn't even line me up in the back and around the ears! I came in with pictures ready and an explanation of some quirks with my hair and the lady seemed to dismiss these details and just simply say "medium short? Okay". She worked mainly with clippers and immediately cut it shorter than I was asking for and I spent the rest of the time working from that point. The haircut was decent but things definitely felt rushed rather than working towards a product that I requested. Wow! Mom gave me the best haircut of my life! Amazing cut and amazing people! Besides the awesome haircut, I was impressed by how kind and detail-oriented the service was. I walked in in the last hour and they still were happy to help me. I showed Mom a photo of what I wanted and she gave me better than what I thought was possible. I love this barbershop! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. As with any barbershop, the key is to STAY WITH THE SAME BARBER. Sticking to the same barber is so important so that they get to know your hair. I have patchy hair (maybe balding) that is difficult to style but my barber here does my hair better than anyone I've been to in DC, regardless of price. She (yes a lady) takes her time and is able to perfectly blend my patches together to create a flattering look. She also constantly asks for feedback about the haircut and does not make you feel bad (as some barbers do) if you want her to alter anything afterwards. read more

So I've only had one haircut here but it was by far the worst experience I've had getting may haircut. I am nearly bald so all I expect is to provide a short tapered cut but that proved too difficult for the lady cutting my hair. It also took over an hour which is just ridiculous considering there were no scissors involved. Her equipment was damaged in a way that made the neck cleanup very painful (felt like a needle was being dragged across my neck), and lastly because it took so long the electric clippers got so hot that the metal literally started burning my skin. Awful, just awful. The guy sped through my haircut, shaved away extremely fast and recklessly. He did not like how my hair looked so he made sure to tell me and was very rude about it. I asked for a 1 on the sides all the way up and a trim on the top. He expressed his discontent with my length and the way that I would style it so he said he wouldn't cut it or take ownership for it- slightly insulting. After he finished my cut he didn't show me the back of my hair, but he was talking a lot about who knows what so I forgot to ask. I go back home and take a mirror and find out that he messed up the back of my hair, not cutting it evenly or even properly. Tenleytown Barbershop is new to the area (summer 2017), and a great addition to the neighborhood. If you are tired of waiting in endless lines at the bigbox cutters, prefer a stylist that takes their time getting your haircut just the way you want it, and like supporting local mom-and-pop type places, then this is the place for you. I've been going since they opened and have gotten great cuts each time. I can't recommend this place enough! Try did me a solid when he cut my hair. I was at first unsure of how I felt about it, sides very very short with a longer top for styling. Aka the asian somethingboy cut. Of course I was still worried, but I got many compliments about how a lot people liked my haircut, gave me some more confidence and I got to head to my friends wedding that weekend looking extra fresh. Staff is friendly. They enjoy talking about everything, but they really get into sports (mainly football). Try took care of me really well even though Lina normally does my cuts. The worst haircut/experience I've ever had. I came in with longer hair asking to still be able to do a comb over (so medium length) and the barber kept messing up so bad that I walked out of there looking like a Marine with a parting line running down the side of my head (looks more like a scar - you always do the line last but he did it first for some odd reason. Should've known from that point to get out before he butchered the rest of my hair). He had to call another barber over to try to fix it, but he said all he could do is make it shorter and more even. Their one saving grace is that they knew they did such a horrible job they didn't try to charge me. I don't like blasting small businesses on Yelp, but if you're a guy looking for anything longer than a buzz cut or something that requires scissors I'd avoid this place like the plague. read more
