We've gone on a number of tours, but this was our first time using an English-speaking guide, as well as our first time with Be Local Tours. Meeting in Plaza Cataluña was no problem - Be Local told us precisely where and when to show up, and had a distinctive umbrella to identify themselves. Our guide, Joel, a local Catalán who speaks flawless English and is very well versed in the history of the Spanish Civil War, took us to key locations around the city center in keeping with the chronology of the war. He used photographs of the era to help us visualize the differences and similarities in the Barcelona of then and of now. While we were en route between sites, he explained what was going on at the time in various other parts of Spain during this tragic period in its history. Clearly, two hours were only enough to get an overview, but Joel answered our questions with clarity. We look forward to future tours with Be Local!

I'm really happy we decided to hire bikes, because beforehand I'd had no idea 1) how beautiful and varied the city is or 2) what amazing cycle lanes it has - we only had to go on a road once! The people at BornBike were extremely helpful and friendly, taking the time out to suggest good routes for us to use and making sure we were comfortable on the bikes. We were able to leave some larger luggage at the shop if we wanted, and I was surprised by how cheap it was to hire the bikes - we paid £6 each for a couple of hours I think and they were brand new and pretty comfy. In our allotted time we managed to get around much of the city, from the beach to the park to the city centre and back again. It was a really memorable way to spend our last few hours in Barcelona and I'd say getting out and about on a bike is the top thing to do in the city, you'll really miss out if you don't give it a try.
