Located in a small plaza and can be confusing with the Illinois Nut and Candy sign but when you walk in the sweet smell of chocolate fills the air. They also have taffy apples, some with just the caramel, some with nuts, some with chocolate chips. You can never go wrong! These cookies are the largest (In depth) cookies I have ever encountered. Thick and delicious with rich butter flavor is the best way for me to describe them. At the thickest section of the cookie - unfortunately was of a sandy milli consistency, yet the butter taste was throughout. But recently, I was able to stop in and smelled the fresh toffee. I was looking for a few gifts for some friends and family for their birthday. The shop is small but mighty, located in downtown Highwood across the street from the metra station. It is street parking, and all complimentary. They have so many incredible options, seasonally and traditional. But no matter which option you get, you're in for a treat. I was able to meet the owner, when I stopped by and she shared how meaningful the recipes were and how her love for making toffee came about. With each bite you definitely taste the love. We wanted a special Chinese word--double happiness; you might know it--made from chocolate. CCD was more than willing to try it out. Working with them was a breeze. They were prompt and had the chocolates finished on a compressed timetable, even though we only were able to provide one mold. My fiancée used to work at Teuscher, and while CCD's chocolate isn't exactly at that level, she was more than pleased with the flavor, consistency, and tempering. (Of course, it also came to less than half the price per pound!) The chocolates came out gorgeous. Sharp transitions, smooth edges, no significant burrs or voids. I posted a quickie snapshot. Marilyn clearly takes pride in her work and it shows. Best of all, they were substantially less expensive than having it done in the city.

I also love their Tizzy Lizzie and Graham Cracker Crunch. And their dipped fruit and orange peels. OK. I don't think that there was anything I didn't love.
