DISGUSTING! The staff here behave disgracefully and in very bad taste. At the end of the day,…read morecustomers who happen to be looking for marked down goods in this store are virtually stalked by members of STAFF WHO ARE HIDING REDUCED ITEMS FOR THEMSELVES WHO DO NOT WANT CUSTOMERS TO FIND THEIR HIDDEN ITEMS. More than once, I have been in the store as the clock struck 9pm for closure as I waited for the reduced items, I have had the security guard give me filthy looks (rather than politely remind me of the time), and as I have left the store, when there are no other customers present, the staff put the REDUCED ITEMS OUT FOR THEMSELVES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF. I even had a bunch of flowers snatched off me by a member of staff before 9pm which she then took to the check out and bought herself. Shockingly self-serving store, and the managers fully support the staff in the illegal practice of hiding reduced items for their own benefit. Shame on you Waitrose, the behaviour of your opportunistic staff in this store is an embarrassment!

There is a great instore butcher, who is very keen to help you try something new or recommend cheaper cuts and how to cook them! Let's face it, Waitrose is quite an expensive place to shop, but they have started doing dine in for £10 and they have a nice selection of food included! If you like fish, the fish counter is appealing but not as friendly as the butcher! There is an instore bakery, but i'd rather use the bakers across the way! If you need a break after shopping the cafe by the entrance is reasonably priced and worth a look, very child friendly! You get 2hours free parking in the car park, they do have an attendant i noticed so be ware if you want to park and go elsewhere!

You have two choices in this immediate area for quick market essential needs: Sainsbury's Local or…read moreTesco Express located just nearly across the street. Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of the latter option, and here's why: 1. Because it's so high trafficked, this store is pretty dirty 2. The shelves always seem like they need to be stocked 3. It's a bizarre layout because it's such a small space 4. The queue here - as others have mentioned - is frustrating and confusing; who's actually in line?! It's hard to tell when it snakes down into the aisles Really, you'll find similar things at both places, so it's really just a matter of preference!

It's not exactly the first place you'd look for a Primark, a Lidl or a Wilkinsons (sadly, as I absolutely love a good Primark). But what should the less wealthy of us need a supermarket which isn't as elusive as Marks and Spencer and not as pricey as Waitrose? Sainsbury's local on Marmouth Street is a tiny supermarket which is an ideal one-stop shop for your basic essentials. The range of items on sale here is pretty limited, but when you're looking for reasonably priced goods like tea, coffee, bread and milk - this is the first place I head. And, because it's a Sainsbury's LOCAL the service is quick so there's no frustrating queues in sight.

A huge organic selection. A whole shelf of tea. Racks of dried fruits (I am not addicted to dried figs), nuts (cashews!) and I even found jars of sunflower butter here...which is surprisingly good and a good alternative to peanut butter (which they also have). Fantastic ethnic cooking section chock full of sauces, ingredients, grains, rices, beans and any element you probably need, spices, decent bakery with breads, rolls, pitas, etc. Eggs and dairy, beer, wine, a lot of coconut water, and a fresh produce section (outside) which is standard, but nice to have. Things you won't find: fresh meats or fish. Par for the course! The family that runs it is very friendly as well (always so polite!) and I always leave feeling quite good about supporting a local food shop that is not only convenient, but tucked away from the madness of the Old Street roundabout. You can find almost everything in there, from bubble gum to grains, dried fruits, fresh fruits (very good selection), alcohol... Almost everything except fresh fish and meat.
