Apparently, Texas Lawn Pros, one of the companies she called, showed up and spent 3.5 hours plus parts, then billed us. I asked our manager to go to the house and observe the zones as I remotely turned them on. The formerly broken zone now works, but some heads don't pop up or are mis-aligned. I figured if I'm going to pay top dollar then it might as well work perfectly. I therefore asked her to call and see if someone could fix it to our satisfaction. She finally got hold of the owner who refused to come out to correct the problem until the bill for the unsolicited service was paid. To make this headache go away, I've simply cut them a check and will fix/replace the heads when I get down there. The work they do might be okay, but their business practices need some help. Needless to say, we will NOT contact them again for service.

After being told by 3 companies they were extremely booked for months, a couple companies were waaaaay out of our price range, and many didn't even bother to respond to my requests. Our friends just-so-happened to have South Texas Curb Appeal's business card. Curtis was out the very next day, on time, to give us a quote. Not only was he very friendly, he explained what needed to be done, how he was going to do it and how it would look after. He never pressured us to make a sale and even offered a bit of a military discount. (Side note; one business owner literally laughed when he told me they don't do military discounts ) We paid him half up front and again, showed up with his crew on time (on a day with a heat index of 106!) and got right to work. We had very tall, mature palms surrounded by fences, pergolas, trellises, the house and pool. I took a video before hand because with my luck, something was going to end up damaged. I'm happy to report I was wrong. Curtis and his crew are literal angels at removing huge trees. We're so happy with the results. I didn't think it was possible to get stumps so low to the ground! I can go right over them when cutting the lawn. They also took the time to edge the entire back yard AND Curtis found our pool skimmer and got out any grass clippings. Included in the price was the bonus of having all the trees and debris hauled away as well! Some companies charged a ton extra for this, one told us to call the city and they'll haul it away for $50 (?). Another made it sound like he would do us a favor by putting it all on the curb for us. Even though we paid for this project I truly feel like South Texas Curb Appeal gave us a gift. I wish more business owners were as kind, caring and professional as Curtis.

While he started strong, the quality of work became unacceptable as he grew and diversified his business. We only have mulched flower beds and trees -- no lawn -- so our maintenance was minimal. Yet, I was consistently disappointed at the upkeep considering we were paying for bimonthly maintenance. Tall weeds growing through pavers, repeatedly dead native plants (like lantana), overgrown bushes, exposed sprinkler lines, cut sprinkler lines sticking out of the ground and not repaired, and a sprinkler system completely turned off just to offer some examples. After two years of having to completely replace our plants (and not due to the freezes) and repeated attempts to work with Chris to get our maintenance on track, I finally gave up.
