But one person stole it because when I came back to use the bike it wasn't there and the race kept running in the app. The support service is terrible, they were always busy, I sent emails that were not answered, and even if someone stole it from me and I had the key, they wanted to charge me a fee of 150 euros. I opened a case with the police, so that they can help me, since the service itself has been very negligent with the customer who always uses it. My dissatisfaction remains here, and I hope it will be resolved because so far it has not been found and I have not been told any satisfaction.

Dublin was always the exception, I think we were all of the opinion that the bikes would be nicked or damaged and that would be worse than not having them at all. Happily the vandalism issue seems to have been addressed in the form of lots of clever security tricks and we now have dublinbikes - a service spanning most of the city with drop points/bike racks scattered all over the place (there are 40 of them). The bikes themselves have built-in lights and locks and are really a great addition to the city. You have to pre register to use them and part with precious credit card details etc... so it is not something you can use on a whim (well, the first time anyway). However, once you are registered (on the website above) you are free to roam the city as quickly as you like. Cycle helmets are not provided but I would strongly advise you buy one and just have it with you on the days you think it likely you are going to use the bikes!

If you're a tourist to our lovely city, this is gonna be the hands down best way of seeing it. If you live in Dublin, do it anyway! Trust me, you will learn some bits of new information you didn't know before. One thing it definitely did was give me a better sense of the city and how to cycle round it. It also inspired me to explore more on two wheels, as you never know what you'll find, from new little cafes that have sprung up, to old libraries you never knew were there, or fresh street art that will amaze you. I always look for cool bike tours when I visit a new country. I came across Dublin City Bike Tours in my Rick Steves Ireland travel book and once I read the glowing reviews I was sold. The tour is about 3 hours long and costs 24 euros per person (cash only!). You'll get a 4 euro discount for one rider if you bring your Rick Steves Ireland book. The bike tour group meets at Isaacs Hostel 30 minutes prior to the 10am ride. A 2pm tour is available on the weekends between May and mid-September. Bike tours run rain or shine. Rain jackets are provided by the guides in the event of rain. During the bike ride you'll visit about 20 major sights in Dublin such as: The Spire GPO on O'Connell Street River Liffey Temple Bar Neighborhood Christ Church Dublin Castle St. Patrick's Cathedral George Bernard Shaw's Birthplace Merrion Park/ Oscar Wilde Statue Grand Canal Samuel Beckett Bridge Famine Memorial The bike ride is a very easy and flat 5 mile ride. I kind of expected that in a tour, but this guy was brilliant in his ability to recall pertinent information. He was knowledgeable of industry, economics, literature and world affairs. It was truly impressive. His humble demeanor and his quick humorous wit added to his appeal. And yet he was never boring by any means. He sized me up and asked me about my plans, picked a great Giant road bike to use, gave me great advice about my destinations. I even randomly met up with him the next day riding in Phoenix Park! I'm not a great fan of the franchise coffee shops. All that banging on the machines is a head melt. Seriously I do need a pain killer after visiting some if those better known chains but this place is lovely and relaxing. I will be back.
