No complaints, best Thai food and portions, I've had since moving to Barrie about a year and half ago. The service was pleasant and friendly. We've been eating here for several years and until yesterday we have loved it. Been away for 3 months and was really looking forward to eating my favorite dishes. First thing I noticed was all new wait staff. Like a lot of places they are now struggling with finding good servers... But they really need to work on training the ones they now have. More disappointing is the food... Not what it used to be. The coconut soup was mediocre at best... A far cry from what it's always been. The Cashew chicken in orange sauce was nothing like they've served before... Barely a cashew to be found and only the slightest hint of orange (definitely not an orange sauce). One of my favorite dishes is the coconut sticky rice with peanut sauce... What they brought looked and tasted nothing like what they've always served before. This came looking like a glob of Elmer's glue paste.. . Couldn't even tell it was rice. It was horribly prepared and should never have been served. Couldn't eat it. Unfortunately I brought a party of eight to this dinner and I'm embarrassed to have recommended the place. Very sad to see another great restaurant going down the drain. read more

We had an order of Panang Shrimp. The bamboo shoots were off actually tasted rancid and it influenced the taste of the entire dish. We called to let them know and were thanked for or input. My husband and I ate here last night. We liked the decor and found the staff very pleasant. The menu is much more extensive than what they show on their website. (Strange way of advertising, in my opinion. Why not show it all, and attract more people?) The food was very good, but the quantity of protein (beef and chicken, in our case) was disappointingly small. As well, there were very few cashews in the dish that was supposed to have them. We left wondering whether we'd be hungry again soon, and we were. (Maybe we should have ordered more?) The vegetables were very lightly cooked, so they remained crisp and colourful. You can select your own preferred level of spices. We asked for medium, and found that level to be good. It was very tasty. Main dishes are grouped by the type of sauce you want on them (for instance, mango sauce, peanut sauce, etc.) and there were many sauces to choose from. The two dishes we selected had a different variety of veggies in each, so that altogether we received a wide variety of veggies. This restaurant receives top marks for variety. We would certainly come back here again but I hope management will take to heart my comment about the dishes needing more meat. read more

I don't normally review restaurants, but after reading the reviews here I gave them a try. Unfortunately I have to disagree with the previous reviewers regarding the food here. The chicken skewers were heavily flavoured with MSG Tom yum soup was missing most of the usual spices The peanut sauce was poorly done The curries didn't taste much of curry The basil sauce was tasted like standard Chinese stir fry flavours with some basil leaves added Overall, would not call it authentic by any measure, and I strongly suspect the chefs aren't Thai. read more

This was the worst Thai food I have ever had. It was watery, flavourless and the chicken skewers were dry.

The staff were very pleasant. The food however was very disappointing, it was bland, the noodles overcooked and the sauces watery. All dishes basically tasted the same, no delicious Thai flavours. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time on Saturday and was really pleased with the overall experience. The portions are huge, which in this case is amazing because you get to enjoy a nice sized meal and then take home a lunch portion for the following day - bonus! The spring roll sauce was tangy and paired well with the crispy and fresh rolls. The flat rice noodles with beef and black bean sauce are hands down top three best noodle dishes I've eaten recently. The cut of beef is of high quality and has a nice tender texture. We also ordered glass noodles with chicken and ginger chicken, both of which were also fresh and full of flavour. The Thai flavours really shine in the dishes at Thai Bamboo. read more

Bang for the buck, this place is great! We stopped here when driving through Barrie and it exceeded our expectations. Food was tasty, I'd say 95% authentic compared to the food we had on a trip to Thailand. Would definitely recommend it. read more

Stopped at this place on our way through Barrie. Great place for Thai food! Very affordable and superb serving sizes...plan for leftovers. All in all service is good and food is great. I would recommend the Chicken Pad Thai and some fresh spring rolls. read more

My wife and I attended this restaurant this evening, and we were completely ignored for over 20 minutes. We finally got up and left, because they took the orders of several tables that arrived after us, including a group of 8 people. The manager even cleaned the table right beside ours, without even asking us if we had been served. Not even a glass of water. When I confronted him before we left, his response was "uhhh...sorry". He spent more time chatting with a table of friends, than he did "managing" this restaurant. We will never go here again, and we encourage all of you to avoid it. PS...they were serving cake for their 5 year anniversary. I am not sure how this restaurant lasted 5 years with this horrible service. read more

Great price for the portion that you get. However, the food is just ok. I had the Chicken Pad Thai. I'd recommend it because the price is very good and it wasn't bad. I also recommend the ground pork rice roll, it's very strange and quite tasty! Same goes for the purple rice ice cream desert. read more

We went here on the recommendation of a friend. A nice friendly staff seated us quickly. The restaurant was nice and clean and so we're the bathrooms. We ordered a coconut Thai chicken soup, vegetable rolls, shrimp and scallop skewers, pad Thai and chicken with blackbean sauce. Everything was excellent, the portion sizes were great and had so much flavor. My one and only grip is that the servers didn't check in very often and I had to get up and ask for the cheque but who cares about such minor stuff. We will definitely be back, a great find. The dinner menu looked even better than the lunch menu. I forgot to mention that the prices were great. All that food and tip for around $40. read more

We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past - the service and atmosphere are great - but were very disappointed with the food on our last visit. I sent my first meal back because the chicken in my Panang did not taste fresh - it had the taste of reheated poultry - and was not at all spicy, which it should be. The second meal I ordered was the Fish Tom Yum which was so salty I was unable to eat it. I have had, and enjoyed both dishes on previous visits. So disappointing. read more

I've been coming here for years - unfortunately recently had an awful experience and will not return. My friends and I love it so much because it's so cheap and the food is really good. However, tonight we experienced extreme disappointment and disgust. My friend found several bugs in her large coconut soup. There was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time, it was not busy...someone in the kitchen must have cut corners. We assume the bugs came from fresh produce not being washed correctly. Unfortunately she only noticed the bugs near the end of the soup - we showed the server and she was very apologetic and the owner picked up our bill. However, finding bugs in food served at a restaurant is not acceptable and we will never be able to come back here again. read more
