I love Thai food even more now I have been to Thailand, and I have a good taste for authentic Thai cuisine. Siam Thai offers traditional Thai food for quite moderate prices. They restaurant in itself is small, comfy and not too gimmicky. I hate themed restaurants, they offer nothing but orientalist perceptions of what they think are cuisines and cultures. Siam Thai just concentrates on the food. It doesn't pretend to be something it is not, it simply just sells Thai food. I went for the Chicken Satay Thai style for my starter. I was hooked on chicken satay when I was in Thailand and this version of the dish did not disappoint. The peanut sauce was out of this world, it was simply perfect in its taste and texture. My main was the Kang Pet Kung, a Red curry cooked in coconut milk with red curry paste freshly prepared by blending fresh lemon grass, galangal, lesser ginger, garlic, shallots and red chilies garnished with sweet basil leaves. This intoxicated infusion was further complimented by being filled to the brim with juicy tiger prawns. It was quite simply the nicest meal I have had since I visited Thailand.

I guess if you want to impress a client with your sophistication, you could do worse that take them to The Art Kitchen. The service was efficient though almost comically abrupt. Soft shell crab: Even though it's a starter, it's a £12 starter, so I was pleased to see plenty of crab on the plate. I did not expect deep-fried crab to be so juicy and flavourful. The batter's delicate crunchiness complemented the crab instead of just encasing it. The salad was crisp and fresh with a tasty dressing. The Pad Thai looked amazing sitting on a square of banana leaf. The crushed peanuts were mysteriously secreted under a corner of the banana leaf - good to have the option, I merrily mixed them in. This enhanced the perfect sweet and sour flavour of the dish which was expertly calibrated to satisfy and not overwhelm. The noodles were just right although the sauce was on the oily side. The prawns were a let down compared to the juicy crab starter - rubbery and not much flavour. Next time I will make use of the lime, which I neglected even though it was skewered into the middle of the dish. I ordered the deep fried ice cream out of skepticism. Five minutes later this miracle of science appeared before me in the form of a scotch egg. A scotch egg where the egg is ice cream and the meat is dough. Visually, it's very satisfying to cut into the "egg" and have ice cream ooze out. The outside is perfectly crispy, the inside of the dough is on the bready side which is ok as it's soaked in ice cream. The ice cream wasn't your average vanilla - very rich and intense flavour. I was not a fan of the cooked banana slices - there's just something slimily sinister about warm banana. Warm like it had been in someone's pocket all morning. Thankfully there is more to The Art Kitchen than banana (nice leaves though) and I look forward to returning!

The seafood dishes were delicately prepared with squid, shrimp and soft shell crab all cooked to perfection. Seasoning is perfect and on the sweet side (just how I like it).
