We entered and were asked if we had a booking, even though the restaurant was practically empty. We thought it was weird, but we were seated anyway. After a while, the owner came to take our order, and my colleague try to order something that turned out to be a side order. The owner let her know that that was only a small dish. I asked the owner to give us some more time while she tried to make her mind up. My colleague and I decided to share a meal and an appetizer since we had already been out earlier for appetizers that evening. When the owner came back, I placed an order for an entrée and an appetizer. Then she asked my colleague what she would have, and I informed the owner that we would be sharing those dishes. She let out an audible scoff and gave me the grossest look as if I had sat there and ordered water and asked to stick around for three hours. We ordered 46 pounds worth of food. It was an absolute look of disgust as if we were below her. I immediately called her out and told her that behavior was not acceptable, and would not be accepted. She then tried to play all innocent, as if nothing happened. It was a gross display of racism, and I could not recommend this place to anyone. BLM!

Our waiter was full of banter but I can see how some people wouldn't appreciate being taken the p*ss out of - I don't mind! We all had the sharing starter - great, a lot of fried things so not for those on a diet. We then shared thai red curry, sweet and sour, ginger chicken and plum duck. My dad chose the sweet and sour and I was dubious but it was nothing like the Uncle Bens variety - possibly my favourite dish of the night. Don't get the sticky rice - it was so sticky that it had to be welded apart! I will definitely go back.

That location is beautiful as it looks out to the castle. Dinner with a view. Anyways, the times I've visited this place it has alway been great. This visit we didn't make a booking as it was mid week and during lunch time. When you walk in, there's someone to greet you and take you to your table. The restaurant is in amazing building located in the heart of town. Main dining area is upstairs. I think there's a bar and lounge area on the main floor where hostess table is. The way the restaurant is built. Main dining room is on the level above hostess table. The decor is quite nice with amazing decors and two fireplace on each side. An impressive wine display on both side and there's a little seated area that's above the main floor. Restroom is another flight of stairs up. There's also a little hidden dining area where it's a Romeo and Juliet experience. A little romantic table that's just for you and your spouse that looks out above the main room. If you go up another level, there's the private dining room for special events. Fun dining experience with the sunken seating and a flat screen. Also around the corner from that is more of an intimate group dining experience. I don't know if menu changes seasonal but this visit we tried the three course menu. They also offer a two course. For the price, it was worth it. You choose from a starter, entrees and a dessert. Drink menu was good and they pretty much had a good selections on wine and mixed cocktail. For the meal, a couple of the starters of skewers, chicken tacos which is odd for Thai but good and the chicken karage. Basically chicken nuggets. A single serving of the hot and sour soup. Even though it's a Thai restaurant, it had some mix items. Starters were quite nice and well presented. Entrees, the panang curry, a green curry, pad thai and Malaysian curry. Food was quite flavorful and tasty. For the price it's a bit pricey for Thai but is good. I've always had a good experience and meal each visit. One of my favorite restaurants in Scotland.

Cathay Cuisine takes the top spot as my favourite chinese in Glasgow. I should probably add that…read moreit's shared with The Lemon Tree, but since I moved to the southside a Lemon Tree is a rare occurrence nowadays! As I've said in reviews before, I love a chinese that offers vegetarians something other than just vegetables in a sauce and Cathay Cuisine has the most to offer vegetarian diners in Glasgow in my opinion! Cathay Cuisine is more than just a chinese, they also offer Japanese, Malaysian and Thai dishes, as well as traditional "british" chinese takeaway fare. My usual order consists of fried beancurd and dip (Just Eat will give you an option of dips, don't bother choosing, you always get sweet chili!), fried rice and salt and chilli chips. I also really like the mini spring rolls, they're really crispy and crunchy! I'm also a fan of their salt and chilli beancurd and the sweet and sour aubergine in batter. I've never ordered a dish from here I didn't like! The deep fried beancurd can be a bit hit and miss, last time I ordered it was a bit dry, so I'd recommend ordering a sauce to go with it. I usually get the satay sauce which is a tad on the spicy side. One thing to keep in mind is that the portion sizes here are extremely large! A large rice is more than enough to feed two. A portion of salt and chilli chips will arrive, I kid you not, in a small pizza box, enough to feed four! Great if you are fully prepared for a feast or if you're ordering for a large group, but keep this in mind if you're only ordering for two people (or one person, don't judge me!). Their menu is enormous so I challenge anyone to not find a dish! I usually order from the Cathcart Road branch and deliveries can take up to an hour, so order in plenty of time!! I've converted friends to Cathay Cuisine in the past, so I'm fairly confident I'll be correct when I say, you'll love it!

They have a good selection on offer and the waiting area is comfortable. In reticent weeks they have done a few changes and have added a section with a display of home made cakes & biscuits in the window, I'm not sure what that is all about maybe they have lost their direction and are trying to compete with the cafe next door.

I was way to exhausted and tired to contemplate cooking so I took to Yelp to see what takeaways were near me. I'm not really one for take outs to be honest. I prefer to save my money and go for a dining-in experience. I think its probably got something to do with the fact there are so many bad takeaway places out there, but BKK is rather refreshing in that it specialises in yummy Thai food. I wanted something with a mean chilli kick so I opted for the chicken red curry. It was a decent sized portion, nicely flavoured but not overly spicy like I'd hoped. As previously mentioned I was famished so I also ordered some of the spring rolls too. These were less good unfortunately, having little flavour and being really greasy. BKK seemed like it had some tables inside, but at the same time looked like they hadn't been sat at in years. There were lots of random boxes and clutter laying about, which means if you did sit in, it wouldn't be all that great an experience. Best bet is defo a take out! To summarise, great curries, fair price, good portions.....oh and free spicy prawn crackers!

When Ka Ka Lok appeared next to long standing Chinese / Malaysian restaurant Asia Style with its bright red signage and funky Chinese style cartoon logo I thought to myself, "ooft that's brave opening up next to a Glasgow institution". But, to my delight, this place more than stood up for itself. Although the restaurant is rather big and sparse looking, it was busy and loud enough, with a regular turnover of local Chinese customers to give the place a good vibe. We were warmly greeted on arrival and taken to our table. The waitress promptly gave us two menus to look over, one an 'English' menu and the other a 'Chinese' one. The English menu contained your typical Black Bean / Sichuan / Sweet & Sour type dishes, probably curated for the westerners. Not Fish & Chips and Chicken Pies as I had originally imagined being on an 'English' menu. The Chinese menu was a Hong Kong style fare, with more traditional dishes such as Clay Pot stews, seafood/fish dishes, roasts etc. Needless to say we all ordered from the Chinese menu and the staff were ever so friendly in helping us to make our decisions. In fact the owner was key to helping us have a great meal as he picked out some great dished for us. We opted for a dozen dumplings to nibble on as an appetiser, which were delicious. Then a feast of Clay Pot dishes arrived, including aubergine and salt fish, XO Seafood, an outstanding and tender beef stew, three kind roast containing pork belly / char sui / duck, Singapore style noodles and a giant vat of rice. It has to be said the quality of the food and ingredients was second to none and the portions were hugely generous. Again the owner and his staff made us feel incredibly welcome and they kept checking up on us to make sure we were happy with the food. Although they don't have a drinks license, we were treated to endless supplies of refreshing jasmine tea. Furthermore they have a great tasting Aloe juice, which I think I may now be addicted too. To summarise Ka Ka Lok, weird name, amazing food and cheap as chips!
