Guests came to stay and with a recommendation from them we ended up in the Koh-I-Noor. When you enter the restaurant the room resembles a dentist waiting room minus the posters in reality the walls where bare and looked in the process of a refurbishment when it wasn't. We ate from the a la carte menu but what we wanted the server kept on recommending something else and we all ended up with food that we did not even want plus three cans of cider. We had poppadom's with spiced onions. the poppadom's had an after taste as if they where made some time ago and the spiced onions had a texture as if they where part boiled & very soft, when onions taste like this you know they are on the turn and they where. We all had the chefs platter that consisted of all things deep fried the only thing missing was the mars bar, several of the items where questionable and had a unhealthy glow that was not natural, overall the contents of the platter was tasteless and bland, would have actually rather had the deep fried mars bar. The mains where ok, nothing to get excited about but the nan bread had an unhealthy glow to it as if it had been painted with a neon emulsion spray paint, and l sadly forgot my sunglasses. When you are dining with guests, the last thing you want is a server hovering over your table talking from start to finish telling you about all their problems. Three stars you say?! Ok so I know the rating may be a little controversial given the gushing praise this place has has so far on Yelp. But for me, it just wasn't an experience that brought the rating above 'A-OK'. I mean, there are some pretty cool wee features. Like a flipping fountain in the middle of the dining area. A bloody big one too, must have cost a bomb at Dobbies! In addition, the decor is cool if a little dated, however if I'm being honest, it detracts not one bit from the experience. Food wise, the grub was good, if not 'waaaaahaaaayyyy'! Price wise, it was a tad on the steep side, coming in at just over 50 notes for three folks. Maybe it's just me, but that seemed a tad on the high side. Overall, it's a three, but a solid three none the less. Will I be back? Not sure really. Indian food in Britain seems to be way more popular than it is in the US! So I wanted to see the differences in taste & quality between the places I've eaten at home and in Glasgow. We planned a chill night out for Valentines day dinner here and it was a pretty cool place. We were seated right when we arrived without hesitation and taken into a large dinning room decorated with drawings on the walls, hanging lamps, tapestries and a HUGE fountain surrounded by food. This turned out to be the buffet which I was excited for because I felt like a little bit of everything. We were offered the set menu for the night or buffet and were told to serve ourselves as soon as we were ready to eat. It was a nice spread with all types of pakora, naan, curry, rice and meats. The buffet also came with salad, sauces and dessert. Everything was really delicious, the only downside was that some of the food was not very hot although there was an assigned waiter closing lids almost every time a customer opened one. During dinner we were approached several times by the owner, a really sweet man but very VERY talkative. It was nice of him to be attentive but a little too overbearing, I kinda felt like I was on a valentines day triple date :-/. Other than that a waiter came around serving fresh naan hot out of the oven and I must say they have the most delicious SWEET naan I've ever tasted. I was dead excited about going here as I've heard so much about it and I've passed by it so many times. I was rubbing my hands with glee at one point. Anyway I was the first to arrive and had a lovely wee conversation with one of the waiters. I was asked if I would like a drink while I waited on my friends to arrive. I declined to hold off 'till the rest arrived. When all were present and correct we headed through. This was a buffet night so I was looking forward to helping myself as sometimes the portions you can get in these restaurants can be way too much. We were seated and introduced to the buffet. So there was like a massive outdoor fountain in the middle of the room with the food surrounding it. Luckily I have a strong bladder. Very unusual! The fountain not my strong bladder of course. I felt the restaurant was very dark and this was mainly down to most of the restaurant shut off in darkness. It felt weird and this is one of the reasons why it only reached 3 stars. I suppose they're trying to cut down on costs but it felt strange. I think also the decor was very dated too which didn't help. The food was ok but when helping yourself some of the metal tongs were left in the serving dishes so were very hot. Ouch! I couldn't fault the staff as they were really nice, taking our coats and helping putting them on as we were leaving. Very polite and couldn't do enough for you. This restaurant could do with a bit of an overhall and I think it could then earn 1 or 2 more stars. read more

The location known as Koh-I-Noor has been through a few owners but the name has remained the same. Unfortunately, the furniture has also stayed the same. If I started to complain about the comfy-ness of the chairs, then we will be here a while. But sitting in those multi-coloured, bauble-adorned chairs in the pre-dining area is enough to get you heading back out the door. Once you enter you are transported back in time. For those who do not remember the 80's, let me tell you, it was good for a lot of things, but Indian food was not one of them. Over the past 30 years Indian food has improved immensely. The buffet is arranged around a fountain in the middle of the restaurant and please pray you do not have someone with a weak bladder. Running water and a need to pee do not mix well. The food - right the food. This place is a Tardis to Bad Indian Food. I really feel sorry for the dishes sitting in those massive stainless steel vessels. It is like judging a beauty contest after the females have been engaged in a Mixed Martial event. Nothing survives a steam table in a decent state. Dinner ladies will testify to this. So, if it was only this callback to horrendous 1980's catering practises, maybe I could step off. Walk away, nobody gets hurt. But lifting the first lid, I come across an unnaturally coloured food stuff. Brilliant red chicken pieces. I mean really red. They had to do it. They brought back Ponceau 4R (E Number 124). The most vile of the Indian Food colourings. You could not walk into a Indian Restaurant in the 80's without this stuff being liberally splashed around. It would get on your clothes and stain your kitchen countertops when the carry out leaked. I was so hoping that it had gone out of fashion or had been shipped to third world countries to herald in a new era of red coloured Zambezi food items. Nope, it is back and surviving well here and sprinkled liberally throughout, breads, curries and starters alike. I could go on about the wall coverings, music and such but there is no point. Dress in a Grey Suit with a Pink Cummerbund and listen to A-Ha if you are after that type of nostalgia. But some things are best left in the past. read more

Disclaimer: This is the only place I've ever eaten Indian food at. This is my first check in but third time dining at The Koh-I-Noor. It's a great spot for an inexpensive date night and is only about 10 minutes from my flat. Every time we've gone to eat here we've had the buffet. (Sunday - Thursday, 12.95# per adult | Friday & Saturday 14.95# per adult) The buffet is a phenomenal deal and includes 8 different appetizers, 11 entrees, and 7 desserts. My favorite dishes are the spicy mushrooms, tempura vegetables, fried rice, coconut chicken korma, and sweet nan. Typically I order a Thai iced tea but will sometimes switch it up for a Pint of Mango Lassi. Finding spicy food in Glasgow has been a challenge for me but this place knows how to do it! In fact, during my first dining experience the mushrooms were so spicy I drank my entire Thai iced tea within 5 minutes to help cool my mouth down. It's easy to over eat here when dining on the buffet so proceed with caution. The staff are extremely friendly and always one step ahead of you. They're constantly clearly dirty plates and silverware, pulling out your chair for you, replenishing beverages, or offering a new napkin when necessary. The maitre d is a very sweet man that recognizes my husband and I each time we join them for dinner and escorts us to "our table." Talk about excellent customer service! Terrible doesn't cover it. Broke tradition last Christmas thinking that a christmas curry would be a nice change. Granted there were no dishes to wash, but everything else was dire. Service was rushed, staff seemed very incoherent resulting in delays and orders being late or cold. Quality of the food was particularly poor, especially the Christmas dinner. read more

Visited tonight haven't been in a long time and to be honest I kind of remember why. As the manager said "we haven't renovated the place in 30 years" I will return to this point later. After waiting a bit we got our drinks however no sign of the water we had also requested at the time. We went for the buffet and starters were plentiful and enjoyable. The main meals were somewhat bland but filled a hole. With so many curry houses in Glasgow they have to up their game to give us something that would make us want to visit. I wanted to go to the disabled bathroom as I am in crutches and it's a steep stair incline to the toilets I decided to ask if I can go to the disabled bathroom. The lady said that she wasn't sure if they had a gents disabled bathroom ??? I am confused I thought they were unisex. At the end of the night I asked the manager if they had an accessible bathroom as really in a large establishment it would be a requirement. His response was we don't need to have one as we are not required by law ... "we haven't renovated the place in 30 years" read more

The best Tarka daal and vegetable pakora I have found in Glasgow so far and I've been local to the area for 22 years! Inside decor is gorgeous and the staff are really helpful, friendly and full of constructive recommendations. Great space for functions too! I use this place mainly for takeaway and I always get nice and friendly chat from the staff while I wait. read more

The koh-i-noor is one of Glasgow best known and best in general Indian curry houses. Starting way back in the 70s in a small shop which they still have on Gibson street the Koh-I-Noor is a almost a trademark in Glasgow. The koh-i-noor being reviewed here is the large building at Charing Cross and having eaten here I can confirm the food is absolutely amazing. Many curry shops add too much spice to their food compromising flavour but at the koh-i-noor they are fantastic cooks getting it just right every time. This reputation is held amongst many of my friends who have also eaten here. They offer a delivery take away service as which is the same as their menu but with 10% off. Smiles all round. read more

The buffet was large, fresh, and tasty, and the staff was always enthusiastic and helpful. I read somewhere that this is Sean Connery's favorite curry place, which must be worth something. Don't be put off by the decor, I've tried a few Indian buffets in Glasgow and this one is, by far, my favourite. It offers a widest range of dishes and it's excellent value for money! But what clinches it for me is the customer service. The manager couldn't do more to make you feel welcome, he's always there with a handshake for us and makes the effort to chat (without being overbearing). Given that it's just a cheap buffet, that's pretty impressive. Oh, and you never need to book because the place is so big! A revamp would be nice to see though. read more

Visited this restaurant on 1st January 2017. Staff were fabulous with the kids and great at advising what we may enjoy. It was the kids first visit to an Indian restaurant and they can't wait to return. The service was excellent and the price was too. Would definetely recommend and will return soon read more
