I've seen her sitting inside while her husband does the planting and weeding. She said yes they volunteer to keep it nice. I told her it is noticeable. I enjoy visiting and watching the small birds at play in the garden. This school is very fortunate to have community that cares for the grounds. They should be acknowledged for their hard work!! We don't use a lot of the stage lighting, but they do have it, and their are bathrooms directly outside of the auditorium. Last but not least-it's easy access, as it is right by the entrance to the school.

I left Chapin fully prepared for the academic rigors of college and I still feel a strong connection to the school. I would definitely send my daughter to Chapin; of course, I'd need to have a child and move back to the East Coast to make that happen, but anything's possible, right?

This was not a one time incident that slipped through the cracks, this was years of a student being left to fend for herself while the adults around her looked the other way. That silence from the adults in that building said everything about the culture of that school. And the culture starts at home. The parents at this school were some of the nastiest people I have ever encountered. It trickles down, and you can see it clearly in the way the students treat each other. When the adults in a community carry themselves with that level of entitlement and cruelty, do not be surprised when their children do the same. BWL is not just a school, it is an ecosystem, and the one I experienced was toxic from the top down. The faculty played favorites, openly and without apology. The head of the upper school was no exception. If you were not in the right circle, you were invisible at best and a target at worst. One incident in particular has never left me. My English teacher, Ms. Garbus, singled me out in front of others and accused me of not writing my own essay. Rather than handling the situation with any degree of professionalism or sensitivity, she interrogated me and asked me to define the word demise on the spot. I knew what it meant. But that is beside the point. The point is that a student should never be publicly humiliated by the very person who is supposed to support their growth. And then there is the decision to get rid of the library. A school that removes books and replaces them with AI is not a school that values education. It is a school that has lost the plot entirely. You cannot raise critical thinkers by removing the very tools that teach children how to think. I would not send my children to BWL. Not because of one bad experience, but because of a pattern of institutional failure that starts at the top and trickles down to every student who doesn't fit the mold. I went back to visit six years after graduating, and I can say with confidence that I do not like the direction this school is going in. It has not course corrected, it has not improved, and removing the library in favor of AI only confirms that. And if you need one final example of how little this school values its students, look no further than this. My photography teacher, Jessica Kaufman, threw out an entire year's worth of my developed film and original baby photos that had been given to her in trust for the yearbook. Irreplaceable memories, gone, because I did not pick up my belongings before a deadline. No phone call. No warning. No regard for what those photographs meant. That is not a school that cares about its students. That is a school that treats them as disposable. This school has never been going in the right direction, and the evidence is still there for anyone willing to look. The school accepted far more students than the space could reasonably accommodate. Walking those hallways between classes felt suffocating, like being crammed into a tin of sardines. Personal space, breathing room, and basic comfort were not a priority, and it showed.

Very creative "out of the box" activities for kids, like a Polar Express day in the winter and an egg hunt with the Easter bunny in the spring. Fantastic new director who has motivated the school and brought fresh ideas. For example, there is now a developmental therapist and a child psychologist on call with retake programming for parents (eg how to discipline, sleep training, etc). The art program Is best in class - This year they instituted "night of art" with a local museum curator, wine, and walls of art made by the kids. Fantastic but selective pre school given it is a feeder school for St Ignatius elementary.
