They can set up this inflatable planetarium anywhere there's enough space with a standard outlet, and then the friendly instructors led us on a journey through the solar system. They were great with the kids, asking for volunteers to decide where to go next. Based on our fun experience, I shared the information with a group I work with and we reached out to bring them in for a family night. They were great with all ages and ran ongoing 12 minute shows for a two hour event period. The kids loved it - they kept popping out and saying it was so cool! Many got back in line for another turn around the solar system. Set up and breakdown was also a fan favorite for the kids around during those times - they literally just plug in/unplug the dome. Our instructors were well organized, friendly, and on top of everything. Great to work with - we're already talking about bringing them in again!

But I think if the museum had been like it is now, I would have loved it. Even as an adult, it adds so much to the experience to have the themed activities in nearly every gallery. There are games, writing and drawing prompts, books to read, and more to really connect people of all ages with the artwork and keep you coming back. The free admission on Sundays and $5 Thursday nights are great, too! Whether you're local or visiting, it really is worth your time to spend a few hours at one of the most accessible museums in town.

Had an awesome evening at the Immersive Monet & The Impressionists exhibit. Featuring work of…read moreMonet, and Renoir, Degas, and some others. We went to the 7:30pm show and spent about an hour there. There was plenty of parking and a real easy guided checkin and entrance. The exhibit itself loops so it is nice that you can walk in at anytime and not miss anything. This was different than the immersive Van Gough exhibit as the Monet had some bold and more integrated transitions. We definitely felt a bit more immersed. This was the Second Immersive exhibit we have been too and it made for such a nice evening. We went for the Basic Admission and it was perfect. You can upgrade for $10 more for a rental cushion and more but we didn't think it was necessary. I would recommend checking it out, especially if you are a fan of Monet, Impressionist paintings, or these type of exhibits. It is really well done but would highlight it is not a virtual reality metaverse type of exhibit but it did not disappoint.

They have a great display of fossils and gems found locally, in the US, and around the world. I also loved that they give you information about how the science of geology and paleontology has evolved in recent years, how scientists put together dinosaur skeletons, and even how to distinguish a fossil from a non-fossil. I enjoyed my time there! Parking is limited, so make sure you check signs before walking away from your car.

Located on the Oval at The Ohio State University, Orton Hall Geological Museum is the second oldest…read morebuilding (1893) on the campus. It houses a museum, library, The Din-O- Store shop, offices and laboratories. The museum holds 54,000 specimens and a research facility which has been visited by those in the Earth Science field from around the globe. The Hall is of the (Richardsonian Romanesque style) and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Geological Museum is part of the School of Earth Sciences. It's founder Edward Orton was the first president of the University and Professor of Geology. Research, teaching and outreach is conducted here. During the hours of 8am-5pm, there is usually someone in the museum that will identify a rock, mineral or fossil that you bring to the museum. Many of the specimens were discovered in Ohio. Today, Ohio is situated at 40 degrees North but at one time it was 20 degrees south of the Equator about where Australia is today. Consequently, Ohio has outcroppings that date from the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic Eras which contain exotic fauna and flora. A special note, the museum has a bell tower and plays chimes which I always enjoyed except at 8 am in the morning.

I remember when this peninsula was a wasteland, with the impound lot. Probably the last time I was here was 30 years ago to help a friend get his car. It's totally different now. A nature preserve in the heart of the city.

This is a great center located within the Scioto Audubon Metro Park. There are great views of the…read moregreen space, the river, the signature water tower in the park, and the Columbus city skyline. The center itself is a nice space filled with plenty of natural light, fireplaces on both the interior and exterior, and a lot of great amenities. There's a very nice library space with plenty of materials for adults and kids, including, of course, some great birding resources, and comfy seating. Several turtles are on display, including a snapping turtle and a box turtle, and there are two more on the way shortly - a painted turtle and a spotted turtle, whose aquariums were set up. This room also has some interesting displays about invasive species, craft activities (at the time of our most recent visit, these were penguin bookmarks and suncatcher snowflakes), and other fun touches. A really nice playroom is also offered, with places for kids to climb, crawl, hide out in tunnels, and more. Rotating art exhibits make an appearance in the hallways. A current one at the time of our most recent visit, called Artificial Modernity by Taylor Moon Castagnari, provided some interesting looks at birds and how environmental impacts affect them through digital illustrations. The staff at the front desk are friendly and helpful and can get you set up with information or checking out materials, like binoculars or kids explorer packs. They also offer a lot of programs and events, including story times, bird watching, and more.

The house itself is in good condition and it was really neat to learn more about the family, who lived in the house for over 120 years, particularly the final Kelton to reside here, who had connections to the White House. The Kelton belongings make up the majority of what's on display, and the staff knows exactly which items were not part of the collection. It was neat to see the demonstrations on some of the antique items like music devices and clocks. This was a stop on the underground railroad, and there is a display and information available in the lower level. The back garden is lovely, and they had the carriage house all decked out for the holidays. Very neat!

We started walking through the nature of Ohio and then moved on to the galleries. We ended up walking the galleries in the wrong order but the galleries were not really connected. We learned some great Ohio history. They had cool things on display like a mastodon skeleton and a Lustron house. We sent about 2 hours walking around the museum. The one negative I found with the museum, a lot of the information was older. Like some of the information panels only went up to the early 2000s. They have a village exhibit outside but it was closed when we visited. They also had a gift shop that was closed the Saturday we visited. Also they have a small cafe on the top floor but it didn't have many options for actual food, just some snacks.

I'm sure I reviewed this before, but I can't find it. The show restarted a few years ago; decades…read moreago there had been shows out here every year or two, and a big one in 2007 for the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends. I'm glad they got it going again. It's not huge, which has its pros and cons. Smaller than Dayton or Cleveland's shows. Much easier to get around, especially for older folks or families with young kids. Parking isn't horrible, though you will walk a fair distance to the gates (sometimes the golf cart folks will give a few people a lift.) Prices are fair if you buy in advance, and pretty ridiculous closer to the show. Buy parking- you have to get it in advance I think, and it too is cheaper the earlier you get it. Bring the usual airshow stuff: sunscreen, a water bottle, hat, a folding chair maybe. You're not allowed to bring in full water bottles (though they weren't picky about it today.) Water stations are just inside the gate, and at the far end of the show near a hangar. Plenty of vendors and display aircraft to wander and see, plenty of overpriced food and drinks. And booths from the military, local museums, and more. A STEM tent for kids. Helicopter rides for sale. Some shade by the entrance and under wings (maybe bring a sun umbrella too.) The show is solid: Blue Angels or Thunderbirds, other well-known national performers. Always dependent on the weather, of course, but they can do a "low show" if there is a moderate cloud later. Oh, maybe bring earplugs for little kids (there is at least one booth selling them.) All in all a fun event, loud fast stuff, friendly people, and neat things to look at. If you love aviation, or history, or festivals, check it out.
