I could go with the "I remember when this was all farmland" but let's just say that this is the most cosmopolitan small city in the "Flyover States." Downtown Bentonville has pubs and bars and restaurants and retail shopping. This year, they have an ice skating rink with an actual Zamboni. There is public art and free modern parking decks and a world-class art museum (that's free to visit!). I learned that Bentonville is a mountain biking capital thanks to the investment of the Walton family to build trails throughout Northwest Arkansas. And tiny XNA that used to be Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is now Northwest Arkansas NATIONAL Airport with regular commercial service to far away hubs including MSP and PHX and LGA and even FLL and MIA! The former US Highway 71 that was upgraded to Interstate 540 is now Interstate 49 and it connects I-40 with I-44 from Fort Smith to Joplin. Amazing! I also think the price is super reasonable and affordable. I have seen a few of the Trike theater plays performed at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville and they have all been great. They have a specific stage at the arts enter that is smaller (think a large movie theatre size) and it is really enjoyable. It is enjoyable because it is more intimate and the kids feel more involved and like they can participate and interact with the play in that setting. Great theater and performing arts school/group!

First…read morestop was @monah_nwa which is a small but very well curated museum of Native American history- much was from tribes and people of this area of North America, but it also included beautiful and well-preserved artifacts from indigenous people of North and South America. Admission is whatever you choose to donate. My teens participated in the arrowhead "dig" in the area around the teepee out front...they got to keep one of the arrowheads they "discovered" and then purchased the rest with some mad cash from their grandma! You need about 2-3 hours to make your way through the entire museum and get the gist, and a bit more than 3 hours if you want to listen about each numbered artifact with the provided sound wand. I'm so glad we stopped for the morning!
