On this occasion last week (day before my birthday), we decided to try somewhere new and I'd noticed signs outside the Cherrytree Forbes gastropub food, so off we went. Initial impression of the pub was that it was quite old fashioned, il be honest, I wasn't expecting the food to be overly wonderful! They do have a really great smoking/beer garden with plenty of covered seats. The burger menu offered loads of choice and the other dishes all sounded great, lots of options. Both my nan and I ordered from the specials menu - with herself option for the pan fried hake with mash and veg and I chose the fish cakes with beetroot purée. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. My 2 fish cakes were fresh, perfectly cooked and flavoured. Not too much mash and lots of fresh salmon. The beetroot purée was delicious and the lemon mayonnaise went perfectly. There was a small portion of salad leaves on the side. My only complaint would be that id prefer a bit more salad when this is a main course, but that's just me! Nan's hake was also delicious, light and perfectly cooked. The accompanying champ mash rich and buttery and the side dish of vegetables really impressed me - perfect roast carrot and parsnips and fresh brocolli. I also ordered a side of fries and they were very tasty too. Since it was my birthday, nan convinced me to he dessert (it didn't take much convincing to be honest!!) the choices were limited which is a shame, I opted for brownie with chocolate sauce and nan the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce. Hers was really really tasty. Lightly spiced and so fluffy, the sauce was delicious. Mine was disappointing to be honest, more like warm chocolate cake than a brownie. We finished with a coffee and a tea and it was one of the nicest coffees I've ever had in a pub/restaurant environment. Will definitely return to try more of the menu.

But most of all its a relaxing bar with a modern minimilist feel. Besides the usual draught beers, it has two great IPAs, one Irish, one from the USA. And if that isn't enough you have a great barman who gets the balance between service and friendliness just right. The Little Tree is a great new bar for and area that usually has local bars. This bar is ripe for attracting the new local residents who tend to be young multinational professionals. Whisper it, but Summerhill Parade just might have its first hipster (light) bar. Highly Recommended. Come and find out what a great neighbourhood hipster bar looks like at its embryonic stage!

As the name would suggest, the emphasis here is on sport watching and drinking but occasionally, the more colloquial version of the word "player" will come into force, as men's heads are turned by young wans strutting in front of the screen, wearing outfits more suited to a Saturday night down the docks. The main lounge goes on forever (as opposed to the more intimate bar) so you wonder if by the time you get to the back if you're in Dublin 3 anymore. What is a bit off-putting is the fact that the 70 (yes, 70) TV screens never seem to be switched off and that, coupled with the assorted sports décor pinned to the walls, only reinforces the impression that if eleven men in shorts kicking a ball around a field doesn't excite you, then you're in the wrong boozer. I've had a few drinks here before and knew to expect it not to be busy or have much of an atmosphere, as it was a Saturday and we wanted a pub grub meal so this actually worked in our favour! W sat at 1930 for a our meal and ordered away, I had the bruschetta & goats cheese for starters, was't great at all, I then opted for the steak sandwich, which to be honest was't any better! I know, I know, what do I expect for pub grub but it really was below average for pub grub. The staff, were, for the most part attentive and helpful. What really annoyed me was at 21:00 music started playing from the function room above! we all had to start shouting across the table to hear each other! when I looked around at the few other people eating I could see it on there faces too! WTF is this all about expression! Not great at all! We won't be back for drinks or food again unfortunately..

The audience of 'Live at 3' springs to mind On the plus side they do nice pints, have very friendly staff and do pretty tasty food, a specials board have the deals of the day. Maybe they wont be so suspicious of me when I return!
