My review is only for the actual bagels, as in the baked dough, not the sandwiches. Note that fresh you can only by plain, but you can buy poppy, sesame, whole wheat, and a few other flavors frozen for take-out. Northern Europe is known for its smoked fish, and as an American, I find smoked fish (especially salmon) to call for a bagel to put it on. But, these parts of Europe aren't known for their bagels. So, I ventured down to Sodermalm in search of a bagel from one of the few places in Stockholm that makes them, and took it home to put some fish on it. And, it really wasn't bad! Not the best bagel I've had ever, but it had a nice flavor, particularly when toasted. Bit on the squishy side, which is normal in Europe. Certainly meets the need for a bagel. read more

I grew up in New York, so consider my palate to be a bit more particular than normal when it comes to bagels. That being said, these are not bagels, but rather bagel-shaped rolls. The bagel is reminiscent of a Thomas' Breads bagel that they sell in supermarkets in the States. They were oddly sweet and lacking texture differences between the outside and inside of the bagel (bagels are supposed to be a bit tough on the outside, and these were just soft and squishy). The inside wasn't bad, but also wasn't great. I got the Stockholm bagel, and the eggs and caviar were nice together, but the eggs weren't super fresh. It was a bit messy to eat, and every time you took a bite, the filling would fall out of the other end. It's probably because the bagel itself wasn't capable of holding contents in. I guess it's decent for a bagel in Stockholm, but people from the States might as well just wait for their next visit home, and handle their bagel-fixes then. read more

Yummy bagels sandwiches. I enjoyed the Tokyo, which was stuffed with salmon, cream cheese and avocado. The bagel was quite filling, but compared to New York bagels (the standard I hold to), it was only okay -- not chewy enough. You can add around 20 SEK for unlimited cookies, one coffee and one drink. It's a good deal if you'll really capitalize on the cookies. However, they're just standard boxed cookies that I didn't care for. read more

ÄNTLIGEN!!! Guess who FINALLY found a good bagel shop in Sweden!!! This chick! Crisp exterior, soft chewy interior, toasted and served with decent smear of cream cheese. Paired with a pretty latte and delivered with friendly helpful service. #thebagel is my new favorite bagel destination, outside of New Jersey. Nom-nom! UPDATE 13/augusti: The service at The Bagel is warm and welcoming - from the staff to owner. I was greeted at the counter with my freshly made lactose-free latte, without even having to ask!! Fresh, yummy, homemade baked goods are available as well. Great service, friendly staff and tasty food makes The Bagel a WINNER in my book. Nomnomnom! read more

Disclaimer: I'm an American who has lived in Brooklyn, bagel capital of the world. I've eaten here three times now. To summarize my feelings: cold customer service lowers my rating sufficiently, plus I think they give way too little cream cheese with the Dr Phil. But a nice fika/homework spot. All the times I've eaten here I've been served by the same employees who seem utterly disinterested in their jobs or the customers, sort of like they're too cool to care. This place would be cozy with a little warmth from the people who work here. It makes it feel much more like a chain restaurant that doesn't invest much in customer service. I was also disappointed with the amount of cream cheese one gets with a plain bagel (the Dr Phil). It's like barely enough to cover the bread. This however may just be a cultural difference; in Brooklyn you get a lot of cream cheese on a bagel! Overall I was left with the feeling that they give you as little as possible at this place. A little extra like a genuine smile from the staff and a little extra cream cheese goes a long way in my book. Also, avoid the Louisiana BBQ bagel. Totally the weirdest thing I've eaten in a while, and not in a good way. Probably the more traditional choices are better. Positives? Yummy big bagels, a relaxed fika spot a little off the main drag. Always a seat, free wifi, and a nice place to work on your laptop, do homework, etc. read more

Fantastic bagel sandwiches. The menu has lots of varieties- meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan options. Customer service was excellent and sandwiches were made quickly. They are large, so I would suggest splitting one if you're not too hungry. They also have a menu in English behind the counter, so ask if you need it.
