When he first started messing up by extending my fade way too far, I brought it to his attention; it wasn't too late to stop and correct himself. But instead...He heard me and nodded, then CONTINUED. I have no idea what was guiding his moves, but it clearly was not my instructions or requests. Despite the end result not being what I asked for - at all - I kept my cool and did not get angry. The owner of the shop noticed I was displeased, came over and asked what was going on. I explained to him that I asked for one thing and was getting something completely different, and it just kept getting worse! I sympathize with honest mistake; nobody is perfect after all. I know there's many personal factors or stressors that can negatively affect performance at work, or sometimes we just have bad/off days, so I tried to be understanding and chill till the end. I was definitely expecting at least some kind of discount or something, ANYTHING REALLY. But no; at the end, this barber had the audacity to charge me full price for a terrible and erroneous service. No real acknowledgement of his errors or apology to me for my dissatisfaction - and trust when I say they were well aware of how I felt about my haircut. This place was more disappointing than biting into an oatmeal raisin cookie when you thought it was chocolate chip. I will definitely NOT be returning or recommending this place to anyone!!!

Instead, they suggested we go to the walk-in barbers (who seemed pretty new) but I would've had to pay again. That didn't sit right with me, so we left and went to Danny's Barbershop instead, where the vibe was way better and they actually took care of us. The frustrating part is that I booked from 11-12 PM, and I don't think a cut should take an entire hour, so I feel like they could've still worked us in. Overall, not the best experience here.

But Kylie being the hair extraordinaire that she is, got me headed down the right path. (Although, I don't recommend this for everyone. If you go in with NO idea and just say cut it...you better be happy with anything you get that looks at all decent). The parking is a blessing and a curse at Kylie's. First off, it's amazing that there is a parking lot at all in this neighborhood. Probably 90%+ of the businesses in the area you just park on the street. With that said, it obviously fills up. So just be ready for that. The shop itself is in the back of Estes clothing store. So if you have never been before, just walk towards the back and you will see it. Try not to be distracted by the awesome selection of ties in the shop! The environment is very classy and laid back. Two leather massage chairs to use while you wait (if you even need to wait). A fireplace, a TV, a great selection of magazines to read. You will most likely be offered something to drink. Kylie almost always has wine and other yummy options. Another blessing and curse: This is a very dog friendly barber shop. So if you love dogs (like I do) then you will probably be in dog heaven during many trips to Kylie's. If you are allergic to dogs, then I recommend contacting Kylie first or something. But all of Portland is very dog friendly. So you are probably used to these types of things if dogs make you go ACHOO! Kylie's cutting style varies. My hair is very short. I have seen her cut dudes hair that is longer and super styled. And she has also cut my wife's hair many times. So she obviously knows what she is doing in many different situations. The pricing is just right. $20-$40 depending on shampoo and scalp massaging. Considering this is a one woman show, I think that is pretty decent. This is not an impersonal, factory line, non-relaxing hair cut like chains. You can check out her schedule and make appointments online using Schedulicity. This is SOOO helpful in planning when to go. My wife and I live out in the burbs and we like to know in advance when we should go especially if we want our hair done before a specific date. One last note based on my wife's input: As I mentioned, I've been going to Kylie for a while. When I first started dating my wife, there was for sure this sense of, "This girl cuts your hair and massages your scalp? Whoa, she is gorgeous. I'm not sure about that." So... dear girl friends and wives: Kylie is not someone to worry about. In fact, you should probably just become friends with her. Because she is awesome and hilarious. And now-a-days, my wife has her hair cut by Kylie more than I do! Plus, you can just come and sit in those leather chairs, play with the dog, read magazines and drink wine while your man has his hair cut. Ya know, if you like those sorts of things. :)

He is one of the most meticulous barbers I have…read moremet, he always does what's best for the client and makes sure I'm 100% satisfied with my cut before and sometimes after I leave his chair. I got mad respect for Naz nd his guys. It's easy to make an appointment with the guys, they are always punctual and efficient with their cuts.
