I'm extremely disappointed with the experience my brother and I had at this barbershop. This was his first haircut in a while, and we gave very clear instructions before the cut began: taper the back, keep the hair long on top, and keep the area around the ears soft to help conceal existing scars. Unfortunately, those instructions were not followed. Instead of a taper, the haircut turned into a high fade that left the top resembling a mohawk and made the scar near his ear significantly more visible. About halfway through the service, the barber acknowledged that she had cut too deeply. Her response at that point was that "the scar needs sun exposure," which was surprising and concerning to hear. Particularly on darker skin, scars generally benefit from careful protection from sun exposure to help avoid further discoloration or potential keloid formation. What made the experience more frustrating was the lack of accountability afterward. Even after we explained our concerns, there was no meaningful apology--only comments that she "just didn't know." Despite the mistake and the significant deviation from the requested style, we were still charged full price. Everyone makes mistakes, but professionalism is shown in how those mistakes are handled. In this case, there was little acknowledgment of the issue and no effort to remedy the situation, particularly given the sensitivity surrounding the scars and the emotional impact of having them made more visible. Based on this experience, I would personally hesitate to recommend this shop for people with textured hair, people of color, or for those who require careful attention around scars or other sensitive areas. Greater training, experience with diverse hair types, and a willingness to listen carefully to clients would go a long way toward improving the service. read more

Customer service was amazing and the atmosphere was nice. However, I give this a three because the "barber" who cut my hair did not do a great job. I asked for a a fade that's almost skin because i have long hair. End product was still with relatively short hair that's uneven. Additionally, the styles decided to wash my hair with extremely hot water. I also got a wax, and thank goodness for their coworker who was educating them, because they didn't know how to do it. I just don't understand why would offer a service that they never done. That made me quite nervous. During the wax I had strands of wax all over my face. Recently switched to this barber shop and I couldn't be happier. $25 for a clipper cut with straight razor lineup + shampoo and conditioner wash. They offer other services too. Loft-like design with a grungy finish, like of wood and cast iron finishings. Gentlemanly, and worth the visit. Oh yeah, and they usually offer a beer, soda or water while you wait or get serviced. I was in KC recently visiting my dad. He looks sharper than ever. I asked who was cutting he his and he told me about Lavyne who har has been going to for about a year. My dad doesn't write yelp reviews so I am covering this for him. She has really been good to him as a friend as well as keeping him trimmed up. I had the opportunity to meet her. The shop is a super cool unique place that makes a haircut about the experience. The service is impeccable (I know my 80 ish father) can be a curmudgeon and isn't easy to please. Was referred to see Lavyne from a friend. I believe you can book online, but I recommend using the Vagaro app. Very open and clean environment. The brick walls and design reminds me of a loft in the crossroads area. Free water, pop, and beer while you wait. Also has about three large TV's mounted on the wall, that were playing sports and fishing. Parking is a little limited, but I went over lunch and there were open spots in front, the alley, and around the back (assume it isn't too bad after 5pm either). I just got a standard men's haircut, but came with a quick rinse beforehand, a scalp massage shampoo/conditioner after the cut, then a straight razor along the back of the neck at the end. I'm always tentative trying a new barber, but for $25 I don't think you can get a better cut. I would definitely recommend giving it a try! read more

Greeting was awkward... the conversation more awkward and worst of all the clean up was sloppy, not used to such carelessness and left feeling I just paid got an overpriced haircut that looks like it still needs more refinement. this just means I will have to continue to searchhhhh sigh read more

I've gotten most of my haircuts the last ~2y here. Linda always does a great job. The place is always clean. They're always following whatever the mask mandate is any given month. The decor was perfect. Very nice setup. They offered me a beer while I waited. That was beyond awesome. The hair cutter ladies were super nice. During the hair wash I could have fallen asleep. The haircut was a little more than I would have liked to spend $25 not including tip. I liked the haircut. One thing I didn't like was they Point you to the TVs while cutting you which is great but you can't see what they are doing. I asked her to spin me around cut my hair infront of the mirror. I wasn't looking for any surprises. Good Hair cuts required 2 way communication. They honored my request. If I lived in KC this would be my spot. read more
