Under The Cover is moving books aplenty and their merch and sundries game is amazing. Throw up a hand if you're an LGBTQ+ supporter. Heck, throw up a hand if you're on the other side of those lifestyles, because Under The Cover will WELCOME you, too. There are plenty of Christian bookstores, so balancing that ledger with inclusivity and love by patronizing an alternative choice & lifestyle business should be on anyone's radar. The service is uber-friendly and they will give suggestions for just about anything. Sign their guest book (so fun!) or just drop your email to receive future discounts, notice of specials, or even in-store author events. Support local is not just a rallying cry for farmers markets or service industries. It's critical to buttress our friends and neighbors who pour their hearts and souls into offering the great city a neverending array of shops & locations by supporting their businesses. They don't have a huge selection of books or a huge coffee menu, but they have plenty for browsing and enjoying. Can't say I found a price on a lot of the books, so I'm not sure how affordable it is, but you're supporting a small business! They are focusing on putting on more community events and workshops in the coming year. I went to a great (free!) poetry and perfume workshop that was tons of fun. There was parking right out front that was available. The store is in a brick building and it is spacious. There were two cats to greet us. The woman who owns the bookstore was nice and helpful. There is a variety of books of different genres. I would say mostly progressive selection, but there were also some classics. There was a variety of items from local vendors that were for sale. For example: dried tea in canisters, roll on handmade perfumes, and some other items. There was a variety of seating throughout for checking out the books. I felt like some of the prices were a bit high. They have some new books and mostly used. It looks like. I ended up finding a book that I believe was eight dollars for used and my husband also got a book. I do think that some of the bookshelves need to be just a bit sturdier on some of the shelving. The owner mentioned they may start having a coffee cart available as well.

This is a hidden gem that is staffed by volunteers only on weekends and I believe Tuesday evenings. They are welcoming and friendly and very helpful. We were greeted at the door and handed a price list and shown to where the various genres or items were located. They have a nice children's book room with a table for children to sit and read at and a wide variety of age levels of books for very reasonable prices. They also have a good selection of all types of books and I even saw the woman in front of us purchasing puzzles. They have media and music as well for sale. The address listed on this post is different than the one in the magazine, so I will post a photo of that. I think the address in the review is right next-door where they might store books. I will definitely be going back and we bought a good size box worth of books!

They generally sell for $1.00 soft bound and $2.00 hard bound. I can't imagine finding books at these prices anywhere else. Plus the money earned goes to supporting the library. Win/win for everyone! The Johnson County Kansas Friends just moved into a much larger space. They have puzzles and an extra large sections for children's books. I especially like the antique books.
