Roof top area (open 8-10p I think)

I think this hostel is a wonderful opportunity if you're absolutely ok with bare bones. If you think about a college dorm room with very little provided (no hand towels in the bathroom, bath towels not included), some things broken (all the hooks in our room were broken), and not enough room to fully open a suitcase and think "yeah that's cool with me" then you will love it here. The common space is incredible! Such a cool roof top and there are kitchen areas to cook food. Every morning hot coffee and cold brew is available for free too. I didn't go on any of the excursions, but $30 for the trips seems very reasonable. There is a group WhatsApp to connect with other travelers to meet up for dinner/trips too. The location is right in the heart of Waikiki- if you want more expensive food head down Kalakaua, if you want cheap local eats, walk down Kapahulu Ave. There are also a few food trucks on the street and it's very close to 2 bus stops. Parking is available for $18/night. I think I've outgrown my Hostel stage of life and ended up checking out a night early in search for a comfier bed and more accommodations. I'll accept that as a me thing.

Before you even think of booking somewhere else, consider this: Hands down.... there is not a more genteel staff. In particular Zane, is one of the kindest human beings on this island. I even heard him offer to drive a guest to the airport, when transportation was a challenge. This type of service is not simple "Aloha Spirit." Without exception, in my experience, the other guests here are respectful, kind and (get ready!) INTERESTING. See the attached photo. This is an example..... The common areas are lovely.... especially the rooftop of the main building. The kitchenettes in the rooms are sufficient, and the main kitchens are all you'll ever need for a "full on" Sunday Supper, if you're into that.

And I found Seaside to be an affordable, clean, and decent place to stay while in Hawaii. I had a conference to attend in the neighborhood of Waikiki, in the city of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. And I didn't want to pay $400 per night for a hotel room, which was the conference rate, so I decided to stay at Seaside which was conveniently located within walking distance to the conference hotel. Seaside is close to the beach, great restaurants, shopping, and other amenities, but just remote enough to provide some breathing room. If you haven't stayed at a hostel before, all you need to do is use your public manners and exercise your trust abilities during your stay. You share a room with people you've never met, but most people come with a very open mind and open spirit. You participate in a nice community and feel that energy when you enter. You share the refrigerator with others and trust your food will be there when you come back (and it is!). You share the kitchen, the dishes, cookware, coffee pot. You share a bathroom. There are lockers in the rooms to store your valuables. When you check-in you are assigned a number which tells you where your bed is in the room and the place to put your towel. During breakfast a few of us were chatting about the previous day's adventures or sharing recommendations of where to go. It's a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Quiet hours are enforced and I was able to get a good night's rest.

The staff is great and friendly - the manager Georgia helped accommodate some date change requests very easily without any hassle. Last time I was there (July 2024) they were undergoing some upgrades to the rooms, also fresh paint on the building, new fridge upgrades - a welcome surprise since I was previously happy with the experience! Aloha, friends - I'll see you back at Seaside soon!

Great vibes, price, clean, and safe. Great for solo women travelers as well. CLEANLINESS- Each guests deserve a clean stay. This hotel was very clean everywhere! The common areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. housekeeping comes everyday to each room and thoroughly cleans. SERVICE & HOSPITALITY- One aspect of a great experience at an establishment is the service of the staff. At this location, I was amazed. The staff was incredible. Out of all the hostels I've been to(and I've been to many) this was by far the best. Out of all the hostels in Waikiki, this one had the best vibes, events, and people. Medusa was fantastic at getting people together for events... we did Karaoke, movie nights, pancakes in the morning, and more. She really created a safe environment for solo travelers to feel comfortable to join in when they don't know anyone or what to do. Join the WhatsApp group for additional info, when you check in. SAFETY- If you have a family, you know safety is number one. My input on safety in this location is I felt safe in the rooms, common areas, and in the location in Waikīkī. Wasn't afraid to go alone at night. RESTAURANT AND OTHER HOTEL SERVICES- During your stay if you are interested in eating here, I'd recommend checking out some of the tours the hotels have partners with. We went shark diving, and a circle tour around the island with people from the hostel. It was amazing! BANG FOR YOUR BUCK? Is this too expensive for the quality of the stay? This is perfectly priced and you'd be missing out if you don't go. EXTRA NOTES: If you rent a car, you can park on the street 1 min walk from beach Lockers in rooms(bring a lock) Ping pong, games, hangout area Food place next door ABC convenience store next door

Staff can say they tried to help but I took a look at the police report and they fully included my "causing a scene" when the cops were there specifically for MISSING ITEMS, and ONLY missing items, not a disturbance, and I do understand that when your stuff goes missing you freak out and I felt very disrespected that they felt they NEEDED to include that in the report. They also kicked me out for said disturbance, but me and boyfriend like to believe it's genuinely because staff swept up my belongings along with another person, and they tried to cover their mistakes. I did bring HPD into the picture myself, and because of that we love to believe they kicked me out due to that. Do NOT stay here. I did not cause a disturbance, and if you call freaking out over missing things a disturbance please go back to grade school. Staff can also improve the way they treat customers as, after the I called the cops they started throwing mad accusations at me, of disturbances of me screaming, yelling, crying. But mind you, none of that happened, it ONLY happened because my stuff went missing. Hope yall can relate. My stay here was terrible do not recommend. I'm 19, hope that helps too.

I hope our paths cross again someday. My 5-star rating is for the volunteers, not necessarily for the business itself. In all honesty, if it weren't for the volunteers, I would not have stayed even one night. I would have felt more comfortable sleeping in my rental car than staying here. Their kindness, friendliness, and effort were the reason I chose to remain. Unfortunately, I also witnessed some very concerning behavior from a staff member named Iven. During my stay, I saw him kick a female staff member hard enough that the impact could be heard, and I also witnessed him headbutt a male staff member who was not doing anything to provoke him. In addition, he pushed me in the head. This behavior was completely inappropriate and unacceptable. Kicking, headbutting, and physically pushing people creates an unsafe environment and should not be tolerated. As for the hostel itself, there were several issues. I found and had to kill a cockroach in my room. When I arrived, there were no blankets on the bed. After asking for one, I was given a blanket intended for a twin-size bed even though I was sleeping on a full-size bed. The business also seems unnecessarily cheap when it comes to basic guest accommodations. Providing properly sized bedding and maintaining clean, pest-free rooms should be standard, not something guests have to request or worry about. The volunteers deserve recognition for their kindness and hard work, but the behavior I witnessed and the condition of the accommodations leave a lot of room for improvement. Management should invest more in both the safety of guests and staff and the overall quality of the facility.

From the moment I arrived, the energy was incredible. I met so many fun people from all over the world, and every day turned into some kind of spontaneous adventure. Between the organized tours and all the random "side quests" with people I met there, it felt like something exciting was always happening. What really makes this place special though is the staff. They genuinely create such a welcoming, social atmosphere and make everyone feel included. Huge shoutout to Emily, Toby, and Kate, who were especially amazing and made my stay unforgettable--but honestly the entire team contributes to the magic here. Whether you're traveling solo or with friends, it's the kind of place where you instantly meet people and end up making memories you didn't even plan for. For my first hostel stay, Banana Bungalow set the bar incredibly high, and I can confidently say I'll be coming back the next time I'm on the island. If you're looking for good vibes, great people, and a truly unique travel experience, this is the spot. The location is out of this world, I don't know how it could be better. You're about 237 paces to the beach and you're a very short walk to the Waikiki-esque madness of "downtown" Lahaina.
