First time staying in a hostel and it was overall a good experience! Pros: literally only a 2 minute walk from the beach. Free beach gear to check out. 24/7 front desk help. Offers daily tours and social events every night to meet others in the hostel (definitely superior to other hostels). Cons: let me preface by saying I understand this is definitely a "you get what you pay for" experience. However, there are a few things that I truly believe are kinda like "bare minimums" that should be included/fixed even factoring the price. Does NOT provided a blanket... only a top sheet is provided. The hostel should most definitely be providing an actual blanket, and this is especially annoying because they do NOT inform you that you only receive a top sheet!!!!! That is a serious qualm I had. Hooks in bathroom were falling apart. No sink counter space...could not even set down your toiletries bag. You need to have a least a little bit so you can put stuff down. No table/surface to put stuff on. I'm not expecting a full dining set table. But you should at least have a small table/desk so you have somewhere to set things on. These reasons are why I had to take off a star. I would stay here again. But I do believe there are some realistic changes that need to be made. read more

booked a private room here. honestly you get what you pay for. the price is kinda steep for hostel standards but you're still saving significantly compared to anything in the area. you'll need your own towel/toiletries here for showering and anything else. there's a shared kitchen which we had no issues with and a cool rooftop to meet other people as well. didn't join any of the hostel-sponsored excursions but the booze cruise seemed like a popular choice! by far the best thing about this hostel is location. walking distance from great food, the beach, and nearby access to the highway for any farther excursions. my main gripe was sound. insulation was next to none and we could hear everything inside our suite, outside the window, and everything in between. it was really tough to sleep. the bed was also pretty uncomfortable and no blanket was given aside from just a sheet, so it got a bit chilly at night. other than that, exactly what you'd expect. read more

It's in a lively neighborhood but not too noisy, so you can enjoy the vibrancy of the city while still getting a good night's sleep. The common areas are simple but well maintained. They also offer free Wi-Fi throughout the property, which was reliable and fast. The staff are friendly and helpful, always ready with recommendations and tips about the city. The dorms are Ok. Hint why the 4 starts not 5. The room was super small, and the mattress for the queen bed was super softs and the single bed was almost like a camp mattress, not a lot of foam. The price is reasonable for the amenities and location, and you definitely get your money's worth. With a few minor tweaks, it could easily become a five-star experience. This is one of the first hostels I've ever stayed in, and I have to stay it's not a shabby existence! Especially when you're trying to stretch your budget so that you can stay longer and work on those tan lines. The staff are sooo chill and helpful! They're very pleasant and accommodating. Other guests were friendly and respectful. The rooms and facilities are basic but fulfill those basic needs. After all, I'm spending all day outside, not inside the hostel. I'm a very light sleeper, but earplugs and an eye mask have been extremely helpful. The internet was great. The area is safe and well-lit. It's only a 2 min walk from the beach, so I'll take a stroll while waiting for my laundry to finish. I totally see myself coming back. Lodging can be expensive, and the hostel makes enjoying Hawaii more accessible. I deeply appreciate that the hostel provides what it does for folks. read more

I think this hostel is a wonderful opportunity if you're absolutely ok with bare bones. If you think about a college dorm room with very little provided (no hand towels in the bathroom, bath towels not included), some things broken (all the hooks in our room were broken), and not enough room to fully open a suitcase and think "yeah that's cool with me" then you will love it here. The common space is incredible! Such a cool roof top and there are kitchen areas to cook food. Every morning hot coffee and cold brew is available for free too. I didn't go on any of the excursions, but $30 for the trips seems very reasonable. There is a group WhatsApp to connect with other travelers to meet up for dinner/trips too. The location is right in the heart of Waikiki- if you want more expensive food head down Kalakaua, if you want cheap local eats, walk down Kapahulu Ave. There are also a few food trucks on the street and it's very close to 2 bus stops. Parking is available for $18/night. I think I've outgrown my Hostel stage of life and ended up checking out a night early in search for a comfier bed and more accommodations. Before you even think of booking somewhere else, consider this: Hands down.... there is not a more genteel staff. In particular Zane, is one of the kindest human beings on this island. I even heard him offer to drive a guest to the airport, when transportation was a challenge. This type of service is not simple "Aloha Spirit." Without exception, in my experience, the other guests here are respectful, kind and (get ready!) INTERESTING. See the attached photo. This is an example..... The common areas are lovely.... especially the rooftop of the main building. Where to begin...where to begin! Star rating does not due this place any justice because the experience and memories I made while staying here were beyond ratings and words. I am a new solo traveler and I was honestly timid and shy with this experience [at first], however the following has now changed my entire outlook after staying here. First, I took a taxi from the airport which was a little expensive but the pure convince was worth it. It took like 20 min during the evening. I would recommend if you're able to get connected to the hostel's WhatsApp channel on your arrival day then maybe you can send a message on the group thread and split the price of a taxi. There are other options that may have been cheaper but again this was a convince move. Second, when I arrived I was greeted by such an amazing and friendly staff! They gave me the lay of the land, rules, and expectations from guests. Nothing crazy and everything kept other's safety in mind. The lodging is literally a 3 min walk to the beach and everything needed is in a 3-5 min walking distance. I was in a 4 person mixed dorm and it was not just a great way to force myself to meet new people but was simple and had the basics needed to sleep, eat, and shower. I was new to this lifestyle so some simple hostel etiquette is good to brush up on for first time travelers. Again nothing crazy and everything designed to respect others and keep boundaries. Ali was such an amazing staff member and ALWAYS helpful .  Mike (Michael) was suuuuuch an amazing event coordinator! His daily tours are top notch and worth every penny. He doesn't expect tips but let me tell you don't leave him hanging because he definitely goes out of his way to create a full experience for the guest. Bring water shoes for beach day and I would say keep some small bills on you so that you can buy food and local items along the way. The vibe!!! Man oh man this place and this new family I found among travelers has changed my life! Don't be here for two or even just four days like me because you will NOT want to leave these great people. I wish I would have stayed at least a week because it was that fun! This is an OK hostel. First off, Tim and Zain are absolutely incredible with customer service. They made me feel very welcome at the hostel, and were extremely helpful with advice about what to do in Honolulu. There was a female receptionist, Jules, my first night there, who was quite reluctant and grumpy when I asked basic questions about check in. The rooms themselves are ok, I stayed in one room where the air conditioning was excellent, as far as the other room, it was so hot I barely slept my first two nights there. The rooftop area was a great place to socialize. With the rooms, be aware that soundproofing is relatively poor, you can hear quite a bit of street noise, and the beds are also not the most stable, I could feel it every time the girl in the bottom bunk moved. This hostel is a very basic, bare bones type place with relatively decent facilities in a great part of town. The area surrounding it is very safe and convenient to tourist attractions, such as Waikiki beach. I would recommend it if you're looking to save some cash and are ok with the facilities themselves being a bit lacking in comfort. read more

Very cool rooftop to hang out at. They also have free beach equipment rental in case you don't want to spend money on beach towels or chairs and things like that. First hostel I've ever stayed in. It was honestly a great time. Had a room with 3 others and even when someone checked out, a new person checked in before night. So it was always a full house. Front desk staff was super informative and they cleaned our bathroom daily. Free coffee & cold water downstairs whenever you need it. Also a bunch of equipment you can rent whenever you need it, surfboards, snorkels, volleyball. (No basketballs, bummer). The biggest downside was that the roof closed at 10pm so there's not really a 24 hr common area you can hang out in. Shower was great. Appliances were okay, no oven available anywhere to my knowledge. Solid tours that the place offered for decent prices. I'm sure you could find a better hostel but there's not much reason for me to give this place anything less than 5 stars. read more

Best accommodation for a solo traveler! I'm so glad I chose to stay here on my first trip to Oahu. Upon check in, you're invited to join a what's app group chat with hostel guests. This made it really easy to join on spontaneous plans! Additionally, there are daily tours for $30 that make multiple stops led by guides CJ and Mike. These were an affordable way to get to know the island and make some friends along the way! I borrowed a surfboard (free for the first 90 minutes) and rented snorkeling equipment. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere where you're actually guaranteed a room when you reserve it online. As someone who has traveled all over the world and stayed at dozens of hostels, hotels and otherwise, this was completely uncalled for. Truly horrible customer service and not to mention it's located in the ghetto.... I would say it's not a safe location (literally a crack house next door and tons of car break ins and homeless people very close to doors). On top of that there was zero accountability by the staff when they cancelled my reservation without ANY notice. What's the point of a reservation again? Especially when you paid ahead of time? They claimed it was how their computer system works. News flash, computers are programmed by you, do not blame the 'system' for your incompetence and inability to deliver on the one thing you're supposed to provide; a place to sleep. Claimed to be the best hostel in town, but actually it's just the cheapest that's why it's constantly booked. There are plenty of other great hostels, hotels, airbnbs, vrbos in the same price range... even hotel tonight had rooms for $100-120 a night and you don't have to deal with the insane noise, bunk beds, unsafe area, horrible hospitality and overall meh atmosphere. The beach Waikiki has a wonderful staff. First and foremost, Donna is a miracle worker. Not only does she excel at her job on a daily basis, but she takes time to get to know every guest and make sure that they have a delightful stay. The general manager is so kind too. I wish I could remember his name but even though that escapes my recollection, just know his customer service was unforgettable. Great dude with great advice about things to do in Hawaii. Now... back to Donna. This girl goes above and beyond the call of duty for this place! Story time: I was staying in a 3 person room and a careless roommate brought in A TON of sand... the room was in horrendous shape and I was not thrilled. I asked Donna if we could get someone to clean it up AND WITHOUT A SECOND of apprehension this outstanding young lady took care of business. I expected her to hand me a broom and send me on my way, but alternatively, she said "go grab some lunch, it'll be clean when you get back." It was so clean. I couldn't believe it. And if I'm being honest, I wasn't that nice when I asked her for help. I was pretty upset that the room was filthy and I didn't even try to be polite. She responded to my scornful demands with poise and compassion. Anyway... 10/10 recommend this place to anyone staying in Hawaii. Never and i repeat never stay here what they do not tell you is drug addicts and homeless people are all around the outside of this place. Also read the fine print before you book buyer be warned. 1 they charge a 12% holding fee as soon as you book. If for any reason you have to cancel they charge you 1 night stay which they charge the taxes and fees. So thats a 63% charge for a room you never stayed at. That is if you do not cancel within 7 days. There business policy goes again hawaiian state law and federal law you cant charge taxes on a room you never stayed at. This place tries to tell you they cant absorb the cost of you not staying there but what if the room was not booked to begin with. This place should be shut down i have decided to report them to any small business agency that will listen or at the very least get the business to change their policy. I canceled pushed back tried to intimidate and be bullied we will refund your money if you do not leave a bad review or if you dispute through paypal we will charge you $250 fee for disputing. Alright. I am a hostel person. I mean, I like to stay in hostels when I travel, for a variety of reasons. This is not my first experience, but it was one of my worst experiences. By the time I arrived it was dark. The dude at the front desk was sort of spacey but after a 20$ key deposit I was making it up the stairs to my room with a set of sheets. First impression; the room is dark, too. I flip the switches at the wall, neither work. I use the light of my phone and the light in the bathroom to investigate my surroundings. There aren't assigned beds and only one doesn't have sheets. It does however, have several sketchy looking stains on the mattress cover. Lovely; guess it's mine. Putting the sheets on improves the situation, visually at least. Laying on the mattress feels like I am lying on chicken wire. On the plus side, the pillow is memory foam, which was unexpected and really nice. The AC is super noisy but at least it's there; it is like 85 degrees outside. In the light of the morning I can see how grimy everything is; from the floor to the switchplates. There is no soap dispenser in the bathroom, and no soap. I think this is gross. There is a fridge/stovetop/microwave in the room, which is a nice change from the hostels that are strict about eating in the room. There is one bathroom for you and all of your roomies though. As far as I could tell, there was one additionally downstairs in the communal kitchen, and one upstairs on the roofdeck. All seem to be perpetually on the verge of being without toilet paper. And none have soap. There is a roof deck, which is cool, but they close it down and lock it up at 10PM, which is excessively lame. ... Pros: it's super cheap, has activities and nice clientele, and is like two blocks from the beach; seriously primo location. Cons: It feels super cheap / nasty. It is an old motel that has been re-purposed. Suggestion: Door mats so people can kick off the sand and not track it all inside. -_- I tried to make the best of everything and just pretended that I was camping. Then it all almost seemed livable. P.S. You're going to need to bring your own towel if you don't want to pay. read more

Very nice hostel, I shared a 4 beds dorm with ensuite bathroom. The dorm has a locker but you have to bring your own lock. Parking is available for $10x day. The Friday's night are free pizza night on the rooftop and is a great opportunity to meet fellow travelers. The hostel is clean and 2 blocks from the beach. The location is great, you can get bus #19 from the airport and easily reach the hostel for only $2,75 and it takes approximately 1 hour. The staff at the front desk is friendly and knowledgeable. There are bars, restaurants, Starbucks, and ABC store 1 block away. Across the street from the hostel there are scooters and mopeds for rent... The breakfast is free and it includes bananas, bread, peanut butter, butter, and jelly. read more

The room, however, had everything you need: a nice shower, clean wood laminate floors, one locker for each bed, a quiet and chic AC unit w remote, a stainless microwave with Light and fan above stove, (Use the microwave fan to block noise and propel the ac flow) a sink, Cabinets, A stainless 5 cubic ft. This place has horrible customer service. They will try and scam you out of your deposit. I originally booked a trip for February but because of Omicron I canceled it. I followed their produce and canceled through email with a follow up phone call to make sure they got it. They sent me an email and confirmed the cancellation and the manger Marina said the refund will be processed. A week later I still don't see the refund so I call them to inquire. Everyone I talk to says they can't help me and I need to talk to the manager who is never available. I call through out the next two weeks and finally I get the manger Marina. She apologizes and said that the deposit is non-refundable and that it was on their website policy. I accept that and tell her I would appreciate her telling her staff so I didn't have to call them for weeks. After I hang up I look on their website and she was WRONG! It says the deposit is refundable as long as it was cancel 10 days before the scheduled arrival. I canceled a month and a half before. I call her right back and she says she's busy with someone and will call me back. Of course I never hear from her. Stay far away from this place! It's a nightmare!!!!! read more

I had such an amazing time at The Beach Waikiki Boutique Hostel!!! I'm so glad I stayed there and I definitely recommend it!! Place: the hostel is SUPER clean! I was actually pretty surprised with how clean it was considering it's located right next to the beach! There was never any sand in my room! I met the cleaning staff- they were super friendly and I saw them clean a little while I was getting ready to leave. They cleaned everything so well! The hostel offers free floaties, beach mats, and things like that! You can rent snorkel gear with them too ($10/day). I'm pretty sure this was the only hostel in Waikiki that offered AC rooms which was a HUGE selling point for me. There's female, mixed dorms, private rooms (I believe), rooftop, fridge in each room, microwave, & so on. They have a refillable water station which was awesome!! Room: I booked a 4 bed female dorm and it was on the first floor! I personally loved this room because we had benches & a table/porch area right outside our room to dry our clothes and hang out/eat at. I will say even though I loved having our room on the first floor, it is the first room closest to the lobby so it can get loud at night/morning so just a heads up! But it wasn't too bad. I barely heard them. Our room was supposedly bigger than the other female rooms too. There's small lockers you can use for your valuables. Make sure to bring your own lock! There's a mirror, fridge, sink in the room, microwave & some nightstands. I felt like I never really had to wait for the bathroom which was awesome. There's no curtains or personal lamps for each bed though so make sure to bring an eye mask & ear plugs so you don't get woken up by your roommates! The bathroom was clean & always had toilet paper. Also, if you book 6+ nights through their WEBSITE & follow them on social media, you get 10% off your booking!! The room was super spacious though which I really liked. Location: the location is AMAZING! Such a perfect location. It's towards the end of Waikiki so a good 5-15 minute walk to stores/restaurants. But there's lots of stuff within 1 block of it too! The beach is less crowded near the hostel which was amazing!! I always felt safe walking around there too. There's cheap food trucks on the same street. It's really the best location!!!! Activities: they offer free pizza night on Thursday's! I signed up but ended up not going bc it was my last night and I had other things I needed to do. But I thought that was great they did that! They also offer tours every day for a small fee ($20-40). It's not free as some others commented. It's for a small fee but it's very cheap considering what you get from it! I highly recommend booking all the tours if you can! Make sure to sign up ASAP as the tours book out fast (there's usually only 11 spots on the tour but you can join the waitlist). I was able to go on my tour and I was 3rd on the waitlist. People don't show up so I was able to go! I did the Wednesday North Shore tour and it was great!! Michael was super chill and was pleasant to talk to! The hostel also has a board with things to do each day - random activities, drink specials, food specials, etc!! Vibe: the vibe is great! Very social and easy to make friends. They have a rooftop where people hang out at until 10 (that's when they close the rooftop due to quiet hours for the neighbors). The vibe is great- everyone was so friendly when I stayed there. A lot of Americans, Canadians, and Australians! Staff: the entire staff were so friendly and helpful! You meet a lot of them throughout your stay, and they're all amazing. All of them are working for free accommodation so you'll meet plenty of them! When I've stayed at other hostels where they had the staff work for accommodation, a lot of them were unenthusiastic, not helpful, and rude. Not the case here!! Everyone was super friendly, chill, and super helpful!! Thank you entire staff!! Miscellaneous: I loved how they offer free breakfast (oatmeal, fruit, waffles, and toast) and that the staff makes the waffles!! Makes it so much easier! I loved it. They also have a donation area that you can leave stuff behind. So if you're in need of something- look there! Tons of people donate things (snorkel gear, sunblock, lotion, shampoo, etc). The only negatives I'd say are they end breakfast pretty early... I was awake every morning, but it sucks that breakfast ends at 9 am! So early! At least till 10 seems reasonable? Also, my room didn't have a smoke alarm in the room... I mean, I've stayed at hundreds and hundreds of hostels overseas, and all of them had smoke alarms. I'm pretty surprised they didn't. They need to add them back into the rooms. Other than that, I very much enjoyed my stay! Overall: I 110% recommend staying here! I suggest if you don't mind spending a little more to go to the Waikiki Beach Club Boutique right behind the Polynesian Beach Club Hostel. Polynesian hostel had a wet soggy smell which entered the nose cavities every night upon entering the room. The place was not very clean and just overall not on the best street. At the Waikiki Beach Club they walk you to your room when you check in and best of all there is no odor in the rooms! It's alot cleaner too. I stayed in September not knowing how a hostel experience would be. So glad I did it. Everyone there from the staff to the people staying there are just to chill and happy. Free food in the morning, great communal environment. Free boogie boards, snorkels, beach chairs and other things for taking to the beach! All week long they take trips to must see destinations for those who don't have cars. 5 star amenities for hostel pricing! lol. My room was Clean and well kept, better than many hotels! What the heck! I feel I got really lucky with this place. Coming back for sure who needs an overpriced hotel! Oh and its a block away from the water you just can't ask for more. read more
