Beacon House is a 100-year-old building nestled in the heart of the Beacon Hill neighborhood, just north of downtown San Antonio. In 2017, The Park Community Church was generously gifted this charming building and renovated it to create a multi use space that is perfect for coworking, events, meetings, or seminars. Both coworkers and event rentals have access to kitchenettes on both floors of the building, free Wi-Fi, private meeting rooms, flexible large group spaces, virtual meeting capabilities, and audio/visual equipment. Beacon House is also the home to a suite of licensed professional counselors who welcome clients in a safe, private area of the building. We understand the importance of mental health but know that seeking counseling can sometimes be cost-prohibitive. To ease this burden, we are proud to use a portion of the profits generated from coworking and event rental fees to create a scholarship fund that can be used to offset counseling costs. The receptionist, Renee Alton, was extremely helpful in getting me set up in the space, and helping me print copies of my resume. I would highly recommend Pearl Cowork to anybody in need of a coworking space in San Antonio.

In all honesty, I boarded my airplane resigned to the fact that I would have to find a corner at a bustling coffee shop and apologize excessively to my colleagues on my calls for the background noise. However, before requesting a rideshare from the airport I thought to myself ,"Let me do a quick google search and see if I maybe there's a coworking space that I could work from for the day." Luckily I came across Pearl Cowork. I signed up for a tour of the place to start in 30 minutes, hopped into my 15 minute ride and hoped for the best. On my way there, I received an email with helpful instructions in finding the suite on the second floor. Upon arriving, the manager (Madison) greeted me and was super friendly. She said that indeed they offered day passes. She gave me a tour of the space and I felt so grateful because this had exactly what I needed (wifi, outlets, several collaborative/private spaces, and coffee). The workspace is at the Pearl which has lots of dining options for breakfast and lunch and the manager even gave me a coupon for 15% off a meal (so kind). I was worried that because I was working from a different time zone I would have to find somewhere else to work as it got later but the manager explained that while most everyone left by 5, I could stay later but would need to be mindful of the doors that do lock. I only had to stay one hour after and it wasn't a problem. Overall, this was a very positive experience and I am so glad this was where I experienced my first time at a coworking space. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that like me needs a quite place to work from for a day or for anyone looking for something more permanent.

This exhibit is conveniently located just outside the downtown area which makes it easier to access, but parking can be a little tricky in this location. I was very impressed by the entire set up; entrance, check-in area, shopping, etc. My husband and I had the opportunity to attend this same exhibit in Austin, but I gotta say it is a total different immersive experience. The painting, the music and everything they used was very different from the one in Austin. My only note is that I think I would've liked this to be hosted at a place with taller walls/ceilings. I think that would've given the entire show, that wow factor that we got when we visited the Austin exhibit. Regardless, it is a really experience and definitely something I would recommend to do.

After a year the tickets I originally bought in May of 21' for "The Van Gogh Immersive Exhibit: San…read moreAntonio" turned into May of 22'. Some wise sage once said that good things come to those who wait. Surely that didn't include reservations that would be canceled, postponed and rescheduled as many times as the paintings Van Gogh created. But anticipation turns to expectation and the bar is set high. After leaving the makeshift venue space in a dirt paved parking lot the question did pop up. Was this immersive experience now nationwide worth a year's wait? For me no. But let me give you the basics, what to expect and what my experience was. The venue, The Lighthouse Art Space is right across the street from the Burleson Beer Garden. Parking is plentiful and inconveniently located on a dirt mound. I can only imagine when it rains how that terrain will be especially walking through it. You buy tickets online and pick a time slot. You can upgrade your tickets to VIP although I'm not sure how walking around with a lanyard heightens your experience. One of the biggest issues I have is with the choice of venue. My summation is that they found a spot they could lease inexpensively thus maximizing their profits. Depending on the option you pick, which can be expensive you will get Van Gogh swag: a complimentary poster or a seating cushion(I'll explain later). I got upgraded to the flex option which only gave you an early entrance or late exit. The issue with this is how do they monitor huge crowds from overcamping? For example if your time is 5:00 pm and you use your flex option how sure are you that people are moving in and out? I say this as a few patrons who were there before I entered were still there as I left. So things to keep in mind the seating cushion comes in handy in the event you can't find a bench. There are benches scattered in the room but it's sparce. My advice to you when one is made available grab it quickly. Otherwise expect to sit on a cold floor. As luck would have it I was able to find a bench. Coming into this event I was expecting a much bigger vision or presentation. Instead the venue is a mid sized room with two areas. One small the other slightly bigger. It is here that Van Gogh's paintings are transposed onto the walls interiors. I will say the visuals are stunning and the soundtrack music definitely heightens your viewing experience. My critique is in its presentation. Since visuals are on all walls it is difficult to see everything all at once. While I appreciated the use of using his paintings as a narrative for me it felt disjointed. For example there was a point where a sun was made to seem like it was rising. The thing was I had to twist my head like Linda Blair just to see it. And yes maybe I was sitting too close but some of the images were too fuzzy or dizzying. I'm not sure if the aim was to be a feast for the eyes or just as fodder for selfies. I've seen other cities host this event on a much grander scale. Venues utilized elongated rooms to provide a much deeper engagement. You walk around thus processing visuals at a deeper level. Here you are perched on your duff and watching a DVD as if you were home. Vincent Van Gogh continues to haunt and allude as an artist. He symbolizes the tortured painter who would not compromise his craft. He left a vast body of works with a million interpretations. All art is transformative and whether it yields disdain, joy displeasure, eternal bliss etc. we should feel something. When I left this immersive experience my wallet felt sixty bucks lighter. Results will vary. But the chosen venue is going to tip that variation. Was it worth a year's wait? No. If you are a fan of Van Gogh this exhibit might speak to you otherwise they have a Starry Night candle for $40 in the giftshop as you enter and leave.
