    The Glass class!

I bought a gift certificate while they were relocating, and was able to schedule the class just recently. Ruth and Glen were very nice and offer a wonderful experience. Overall the class was great! We had the opportunity to learn more about the process of glass, but also had a lot of hands off experience and made 2 beautiful globes!

My wife and I just did the glass blowing class and it was an absolutely amazing experience! This is a must go to location either for it's beautiful art on display/for sale or a once in a lifetime experience making one of their seasonal classes!

Took my husband as a surprise birthday gift and he loved it! I was a little hesitant at first but warmed up to it all. Glen and Ruth were SO nice and explained everything in detail before we got started. Our piece came out beautifully and is a perfect keepsake of what we did together for his birthday.

This place is wonderful and the artist are so amazing and insightful! I came across an event they were hosting "Live Glass Blowing Demo" on Facebook and was so glad I saw it!! I went to the studio and the artist were actually creating glass pieces and explaining the process so well. They were really great about educating the patrons and were open to taking our questions. It seems like the studio hosts these events fairly regularly because they had a small bleacher section set up for seating. The whole studio had a great vibe. The energy felt calming and just down to Earth. The artists must be such patient and understanding people because the whole glass blowing process can be surprising and timely. I also got lucky because they are holding their Seconds sale so the glass pieces are sold at a reduced price. I bought 2 beautiful glass flowers for $5/ea! I'll treasure them forever!

Oh my goodness, this was the best time ever!!! I surprised my husband with a private glass blowing class for our anniversary. It was so fun and we can't wait to do it again.

My perspective on glass and how it's made is forever changed by the people from Caliente Hot Glass. Their energy and knowledge of glass is awesome, they provide the best experience you can possibly get, whether you're taking a class or just browsing the gallery. I personally would recommend bringing your family and friends here to take a class, it's a great experience and on top of that, you get to keep the piece of glass you make! Group classes are usually the way to go, however if you're looking for something to do for a date, I would definitely recommend. You can make friendship globes, a flower, or maybe even a orb. If you're passing through San Antonio, please take the time to stop by, you won't regret it, and if you're a local, stay up to date with their Instagram and Facebook, they post their upcoming events and holiday deals, take advantage of the deals!

What an absolutely stunning intersection of science and art!! In a symphony of chemistry and finesse, Glen and Ruth heat , mould, and nurture their little pebbles of base material into gorgeous works of art. The studio - an industrial dungeon of fire and molten materials - periodically allows the general public to stop in and observe the creation process. And it...is... Glorious! They also have occasional workshops that allow participants to actually dip their toes in the pool of creating a seasonal piece of blown-glass art of their own. My new favorite place in San Antonio. *Seriously*. Go!

A group of us took the 1 hour friendship ip globe class. I highly recommend. Everyone was so friendly and the class gave us a great intro to the complexity and creativity of making glass objects. We are already adults talking about taking another class.

My daughter and I first experienced Caliente Hot Glass at an open house during Lumenaria San Antonio last year. Glen, Ruth, and others created different pieces, very beautiful, which made time fly because it was so interesting. I gave my daughter a lesson for two for Christmas, and we went last Sunday afternoon. What a blast!!! Glen was the primary instructor (Ruth was unobtrusive camera, expert commentary, extra hands when required, and everything else -- whew!!!), and he took great care to talk about the art we each had in mind to make. Everything was hands-on. All the necessary tools and equipment were explained. He discussed how color worked in the process and gave us time to select colors we liked. And then we began to work on the actual art. We layered on our colors, heating the glass between each dunking. Using a small hook, we dragged swirls, waves and lines into the molten glass blob. Then we blew into the pipe, expanding the bubble inside. Finally, the glass was transferred to another rod, and the mouth of the object was widened. The lip was heated, spun out like a plate, and then allowed to gently deform into graceful, natural fluting. It went immediately into a 900° F kiln which allowed the glass a couple of days to cool slowly without shattering. We collect our cooled, finished pieces this afternoon. Excitement is running high to see what they actually look like. I chose a dark green to work with, but it was so hot it was still red when it went into cool-down. I highly recommend Caliente Hot Glass because of the tremendous experience my daughter and I enjoyed. You won't be disappointed. I foresee more lessons in the near future.

Taking a glassblowing class with Glen and Ruth was one of those life experiences that, even in the middle of it, I knew would be a moment I will remember and savor for life. Both Glen and Ruth are wonderful teachers -- passionate and infinitely knowledgeable about their art, generous with their knowledge, and intuitive facilitators who skillfully draw in all kinds of personalities. My family of five true novices (none of us had ever even seen glassblowing before, and some of us are quite challenged at the whole hand-eye coordination thing) thoroughly enjoyed the entire process. It felt incredibly interactive and hands-on as well as seamless and safe. When Ruth and Glen demonstrated the final, precarious (literally a make or break moment) step of the process, it was as if we were watching an elegant, meditative dance. It was such a gift to get a taste of this ancient art. For days after, my family continued to rave about it, and my always reticent father repeatedly and enthusiastically said it was "the best experience ever." Plus, we have a beautiful handmade piece with each of our "DNA" as a touchstone of this delightful experience. As there are so many moments of collaborative decision-making and teamwork, I'd highly recommend this for family bonding, team-buildings, double dates, girls night out etc. In fact, all of us look forward to going back the next time we are in the area.

My husband purchased the best Christmas gift for me ever- a gift certificate for tandem glass blowing. The staff were very accommodating with our schedule and we went after work one evening. Our instructor Glen spent a lot of time making sure that the pieces we were making would be exactly what we wanted. He explained all the different colors and the details of the process with a lot of patience. We are engineers so Glen and his assistant Jessica gave us even more information on the material science occurring before our eyes, which made the experience all the more valuable to us. We can't wait until tomorrow when our pieces will be ready for pick up- thanks again to the team at Caliente! Highest recommendation!

We experienced disability discrimination here a few years back. This is a social media platform so I…read moream going to speak freely about it with out intimidation though I realize they may try... Definitely left a bad feeling about this place regardless of a few of the good teachers that do work here my son met in the teen summer program. As a non profit based accredited establishment it just still doesn't sit well with me..The way everything was handled after my written complaint against the teacher was atrocious. It's a lot to process in ones heart and mind when something like this happens and the situation was It's a long story but In short.A glass blowing teacher who was working with the school reached out to me by telephone because my 16year old sons mild stimming (he is autistic) was making the 4 adult members of the class uncomfortable and they as well as the teacher seemed to conclude that the place was not for him because the other students and herself thought he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol... He has a mild fluttering of his hands and occasionally giggles subconsciously.. A common trait in folks with ADHD and on the autism spectrum. The teacher added insult to injury by claiming to "know how to work with autistic children and wanted to work with him 1 on 1" and she didn't think he was a good fit because he "could get hurt" Like I should trust a person like that 1 on one.Made it through the call and just let her rattle on then started up a email to Barbra the president of the SWAC at the time. FYI he has taken 2 welding classes prior from another company and been in metal jewelry making classes and worked with furnaces before. He is quite mature and intelligent. To Infantilize people on the spectrum IS discriminatory. To assume they are on drugs IS discrimination and gross. The arts community should be more accepting. This info I held back because the president elected of the school Barbra at was experiencing illness and I had sympathy for the situation but everything about this situation was mishandled. The theme was to try and prove my son was incompetent of being in a class without a appointed attendant by the school to watch over him only there wasn't any available and they didn't allow him to take any other classes he was signed up for because they concluded by the advice of the glass blower woman he was unfit and a danger to the class. This was untrue. Offered me most of my money back with the exception of a $900 credit they never honored.Still get mail and emails asking for contributions but when they redid their website my credit and history of purchases just disappeared... What happened was disability discrimination and injustice. Ran off with my credit for a $900 class too.Disappeared completely and I am not about to call them to have some bureaucrat mamm me and tell me how they won't return my money because I'm sure they have no record of it now.. Try and do what you can to ensure a good life for your kids and when you are met with this kind of thing it's not only discouraging but heartbreaking too. Made sure my son didn't know a thing about the awful things the teacher said but he was disappointed the classes got canceled and just didn't feel like a safe space for him anymore so never used my $900 credit of what they didn't refund me.
