In fact it didn't interest my big kids all that much. There wasn't a "can we go back to the other park?" It was, "we're going back to the other one. Bye, Mom." Lol. Just a reminder parents, please teach your kids to pick up their trash right before you leave. It's good for them and helps us all enjoy the park much more. It is named after Margaret Clark in appreciation of her longtime commitment to children and her interest in Riverfront Park. Her husband William E. Clark, has a wetlands park, down the street from this one by the Clinton Library, that is dedicated to him as well. It is very nice and welcoming. You know you have found the park when you see the twin sheep sculptures, Bliss and Glee, which are the work of Giuseppe Palumb. The park also has a hippopotamus sculpture named Roundbottom, that serves double duty as a bench. It is the work of Tim Cherry. The park opened in 2018 and still looks relatively new. It was designed for children ages 2-5 and is on artificial grass and mud free rubber surface. The park appears to have a nature theme and has a bank of traditional/toddler swings, rocks to climb, percussion instruments, bridges, slides, stand and spin, and a spinning cone climber. The slides are small and there is not much there as far as equipment goes, so I do not see the park entertaining kids much older than 5. It is a nice park though and well maintained. I have no issue with them catering to pre-school kids because sometimes the littles get over run over and pushed to the side by the big kids at other parks. This is not a destination park, but it is nice spot to visit if you are in the area with little kids and some time to kill.

The Old Mill is a beautiful spot in North Little Rock, AR amongst a charming neighborhood…read more It's listed as a National Register of Historic Places. Rightly so... the mill is supposedly the "last standing structure" from the movie "Gone With The Wind." The gates opened at 8 AM. Entry was free. By the time we got there, a small group was already taking professional-like photos of their model. The landscaping was nicely manicured. Some of the plants and flowers or trees were labeled with little signs. My girls liked climbing up into the replica "water-powered grist mill." We didn't stay long as dogs were not allowed on the grounds. Our dog stayed in my Jeep while the air-conditioning was on since it was in the upper 80s already. I have had the distinct joy of going to a great many garden supply/plant nurseries. In part because…read morethe wife and I love gardening, and in part because a big greenhouse is the perfect place to pretend you're in Jurassic Park As an experienced imaginary-dinosaur wrangler, I've got a decent handle on what makes a good and a bad garden store, and this one (which we dropped in on on their grand opening weekend!) struck me as an especially well-presented. It was super clean, impeccably organized, and well-staffed. They have a very good selection of both the big local plants from grasses to trees, and the more obscure plants such as air plants and succulents. They even have large outdoor stashes of fresh wood mulches of various kinds, which they'll help you load up (but make sure you've got an empty trailer, truck bed, or trunk you don't care about to do it!) If you're at all interested in checking out a new place to fill your plants needs, this is a great one! The only things I didn't see were bags of soil (which I'm sure I just missed) and tools - I didn't see any tools at all. None. I can only imagine I just missed them, but just a heads-up that it may not be the best place to find non-plant garden supplies.

But my life of travel has not always been this way…read more As I think I've mentioned before, if the trip didn't include a cattle auction or a horse auction or a junk sale, my family didn't make it. Times were tougher for my family than they are now, so if the trip didn't involve a way to make some income, my father deemed it not worthy of taking. So, I was NOT surprised to find the I had not visited such a gem of a place about an hour and a half from my roots. Nestled outside of Little Rock, Arkansas, on the banks of the Arkansas River, television host, P. Allen Smith, has chosen to build his home, The Garden Home Retreat. For those of you not familiar with P. Allen Smith, he hosts three television shows. You can see him on P. Allen Smith Garden Style, or P. Allen Smith Garden Home, or P. Allen Smith's Garden to Table. He has been nicknamed "The Martha Stewart of the South"! His 600+ acre farm boasts 55 heritage poultry species (according to 1874 standards). P. Allen Smith has dedicated his life to educating others on good stewardship of this earth we call Home. He has opened his home to share his "design, gardening, preservation and eco-friendly building practices for all to experience." And I am a better person for having visited Moss Mountain Farm. I find that I learn so much while traveling, and P. Allen Smith's Moss Mountain Farm was no exception. I grew up in the rural community of Bee Branch, Arkansas and I have traveled many of the small country lanes of Arkansas but I had never been to this particular location. There are only a couple ways to get to the farm. You can come from Little Rock or meander through the winding roads from Conway, past Toad Suck, and through Bigelow, the way I chose. On this path, we literally saw moss on the mountain on the way to the farm! We (and about 80 others) were the first guests of the 2019 spring season. Next week will be the peak of the daffodil season, but we did get to see some daffodils on our tour. Our lunch tour included a tour of P. Allen Smith's vegetable garden, rose garden, terraced gardens, Poultryville, Garden Home and eHow cottage, as well as other farm animals. At the end of the tour, we were told we had walked about 2 miles! This tour is NOT for the faint of heart. There are steep inclines and the path is gravel. I would recommend comfortable walking shoes with a decent grip. And the lunch was delicious! A hearty Farm to Table salad with chicken and your choice of Buttermilk Pecan Pie or Coconut Cake. After walking, we were ready for that rest and refreshment. As an added bonus, P. Allen Smith was available that day to join us! (Helpful Hint: There are three long tables set up for lunch and P. Allen Smith sat at the middle of the middle long table.) After lunch he graciously sat and answered questions and then autographed the cookbooks and other items (available for purchase at the Gift Shop). After lunch, we were able to tour his home at our own pace. And as you will see from the photos below, it is gorgeous and his views of the Arkansas River are enviable! There are a couple of other things to mention. And the first is of utmost importance to many of us. There ARE public restrooms complete with flushing toilets and running water. You never know about that when you're out in the country! The second is that there were only two tour groups for about 80 people so the tour groups were quite large. If someone from Moss Farm is reading, please consider adding more docents. It was very difficult to hear the docent for the majority of the tour. But please don't let that one fact keep you from going, it is STILL a wonderful tour and lunch! So, if this blogpost has piqued your interest, click here to get your tickets to visit P.
