The Old Mill is a beautiful spot in North Little Rock, AR amongst a charming neighborhood. It's listed as a National Register of Historic Places. Rightly so... the mill is supposedly the "last standing structure" from the movie "Gone With The Wind." The gates opened at 8 AM. Entry was free. By the time we got there, a small group was already taking professional-like photos of their model. The landscaping was nicely manicured. Some of the plants and flowers or trees were labeled with little signs. My girls liked climbing up into the replica "water-powered grist mill." We didn't stay long as dogs were not allowed on the grounds. Our dog stayed in my Jeep while the air-conditioning was on since it was in the upper 80s already. The Old Mill is a very beautiful place to visit in North Little Rock and is free for the public to visit, with free street parking available. This gorgeous and picturesque place is so serene with the cascading waterfalls, bridge that looks like it was from made from petrified wood (but was sculpted out of concrete), lushes trees and beautiful flowers in bloom (I visited during spring time) is worth a visit. The Old Mill itself was featured in the opening scene in Gone With The Wind and is the last structure that was used in the movie. This mill is actually a replica of an abandoned water powered mill from the 1800s. The mill was was constructed in the early 1930's (Gone With The Wind Movie came out in 1939 for those of you that wanted to know that). Justin Matthews, a resident of the area, decided he wanted to create this mill and had it built by Frank Carmean and sculpted by Mexico City artist Dionicio Rodriguez. Upon my visit with my husband (please note that dogs are not allowed to visit, although they may have many years ago), we came on a Saturday afternoon, around 12:45 pm. There were numerous of visitors but were spread out well enough so that you can get several people free shots (or if you wait patiently enough, the people will eventually leave). We did see some people take family photos, couple photos (this is such a beautiful place for engagement and wedding photos) and even a maternity photo shoot during our visit. The grounds are well maintained. Photos truly do not do justice for this place. Consider contacting the Friends of the Old Mill for a free tour or if you want to rest this place out for your wedding. read more

Traveling through Little Rock on a road trip and wanted a free activity to do on my trip. I was very happy to have stopped at this beautiful landmark! It was nearly empty in this Monday morning and I was happy to find parking on the road near the entrance. They do not allow dogs and I had to leave my furry companion in the car with the windows cracked on this mild morning. I walked the site easily in about 15-20 minutes. I stopped for some pictures and loved the pretty colors of the flowers and the relaxing sound of the moving water. Overall, I would recommend stopping if you're in the area! read more

Traveled to Little Rock for 2 days work and wanted somewhere scenic to visit after work to enjoy the city more. Boy, this place was very cute! There is plenty of street parking (if you go at 6pm on a weekday like I did) and the park is located within a nice neighborhood. There is a list of rules on the gate upon entering the park including no loud music, no pets, no picking flowers, etc. Photos don't do enough justice for this place. Walking and actually exploring the bridges, various pathways, and buildings make it feel almost majestic. This would be a great place to bring a date, bring your kids, or just walk around by yourself. read more

My boyfriend and I took a road trip and this was one of the places I opted to stop at. I am not going to write a long review, but please note that some things can't be captured in a photo. Such a magical and fantastical place...! Made me feel like I was a princess (Snow White or Aurora) just walking around this place. When I arrived, there was a tour bus of senior citizens, and it was the cutest thing ever. They all enjoyed the place as much as a girl who has always dreamt of being a princess because of all the Disney movies. What made this place even more special is that it's run by volunteers... and all the volunteers I saw that day were also senior citizens... I can totally see myself doing something like this to find purpose. It was also amazing to see all the wild turkeys (..? I think they were turkeys...) swimming into the lake. The homes in the neighborhood were also beautiful... Reminded me of how there's so much more to the US I need to see... This was a great ten minute pit stop to stretch our legs and soak in a bit of Arkansas history. I originally found The Old Mill on Yelp when searching "local flavor" on our driving route between Indiana and Houston, TX. The Old Mill was a perfect spot to do a quick loop through the park, soak in the spring flowers and see the iconic opening scene from Gone with the Wind. You'll also find a beautiful concrete bridge and bench made to look like natural wood by a talented Mexican artist (sign noting name). The gardens appeared to be landscaped by local master gardeners. Overall, a perfect stop for free fun, a dose of nature and stretching your legs. read more

Stopped in Little Rock for a break in monotony on a 12 hour road trip, and while looking for some local attractions The Old Mill caught my eye seeing as we share a name (Pugh). So glad I stopped! This little park is absolutely beautiful and I was able to take advantage of the photo op! Its in a great location (cute lakeside neighborhood), is well maintained and taken care of, and visitors seem to respect the area. Its nothing overly exciting or the type of place to kill an entire day, but it would be a great outdoor event location (thinking wedding), picnic spot, or backdrop for family/ senior/ special occassion portraits. 4 Words ~ Gone with the Wind I've watched the movie and read the book many times so when I discovered that there was something in Little Rock from the movie well I had to make the 5 and a half hour drive from Fort Worth, TX to see it! It's pure magic. Just like something out of a fairytale. Just like a Thomas Kinkade painting. Just like a dream... This park is open to the public and located in a residential neighborhood. How lucky are the folks who live around this place?!? The water mill is a historic re-creation from the 1880's. It was in fact featured in the opening scene of the movie Gone with the Wind. You can actually walk into it as well! It's so beautiful & special. There's a lot more going on in the park as well and it's strategically placed on a lake. Talk about backyard goals! read more

Talk about a fun little place to visit. My wife is a fan of Gone with the Wind, so when I found out this was a sight to see in Little Rock, I made sure to prioritize it on our vacation plans. Best of all, it's a public park and admission is free, so it's the right price for any budget. From looking at the website, a lot of people like to take wedding photos and the like in the area, and I can't blame them. The entire park and surrounding area is gorgeous. The only real knock on this place is that parking is very limited and poorly marked. We drove right by the street parking, had to do a tenuous U-turn off a street that pretty much just ends sloping steeply down to the river, and had to double back to find the spots. I highly recommend this to anyone coming to visit Little Rock. read more

This is an absolute jewel! Beautifully landscaped terrain with many bridges that look as if they were sculptured from petrified wood! This is said to be the most Instagram-able place in Little Rock! It was part of the "Gone with the Wind" set. Many people were here for private photos as well. The parking can be tricky in the lake front residential area, but we'll worth the time. read more

Old Mill is from the movie Gone with the Wind. Now, I'm one of those weirdos who hasn't actually sat through the entire movie, cause it's long, and my attention span isn't long enough to watch it. But, I've seen the opening in several attempts to watch the movie. Old Mill Park is the old mill used in the opening scene of Gone with the Wind. I was told about this area from some ladies I was working with last week here in Little Rock. Very beautifully restored, and kept up. It is so cool. The park has a bridge out of cement looking driftwood, (I looked closely at the bridge.) and you climb on it with stone steps. On the bridge is a stone bench. The water below is reflective, and the bridge has crafted driftwood hanging like stalagmite in a cave. The mill is working, pumping water, with the cabin restored. A staircase on the inside leads you to the top of the mill. There's a window, 2 windows. Below this, is a path with another bridge. There's greenery all around,, and rock formations. Very interesting area. It'd be cool to eat lunch here. It was a bit breezy today, but hopefully I'll be able to go back and do this. It's just phenomenally cool. Ofcourse, with me, I walked on every bit of it, down every bridge, and every path. Cabins line the lake area, which is also quite pretty. read more

This is a great little tourist spot on the outskirts of Little Rock - I'd never heard of it before, but drove over one afternoon just to see. It's a beautiful park, lovely plantings and quaint little mill. The added history of it's being part of a scene from Gone With The Wind makes it that much more interesting.
