What this shop offers that sets it aside from others nearby is a range of (mainly artistic) hobby products. This includes various types of paints, brushes and even Revell model aircraft kits I used to construct as a child that I haven't seen out with a model shop for years. As well as this, there is a good selection of useful stationery including school type jotters, which can sometimes be a rare find, and pipe cleaners! Something that is on every Blue Peter watchers wish list. The staff were very friendly and I enjoyed having a good chat with the owner about the local area and her shop. The pricing however, seemed quite variable and I felt myself slightly concerned at the apparent expense of some of the stationery products. However, I'm rating relatively high purely for the nostalgic value added by the model kits and the availability of artistic products which can be quite hard to come by.

This small shop is an amazing jumble of fantastic yarns- many not or barely available in the States. She stocks many UK yarns and some further flung but all really beautiful. The shop owner was incredibly helpful in figuring out weight and yardage I needed for a pattern. The website gives an idea of some of the selection but of course seeing them in person is always the best way to know what calls to you.

On the one hand, it's always great to see local retailers and designers being supported locally. And although I'm no art conoisseur there was some gorgeous stuff on display - mainly paintings and sketches of Scottish scenery - and I was surprised at how reasonably-priced some of it was. However, I did get the impression that in the huge big room of stalls and stands there were only about 3 or 4 different categories of things being sold. If you're the kind of person who loves browsing stall after stall of almost identical-looking glass jewellery or silver-plated chokers with semi-precious stones on them then you'll be in heaven here. Otherwise, you probably won't need to spend mor than 15 minutes or so here. That said, if you're in the area on the first saturday of every month then you should pop in for a browse.

However, some of the sellers are well established and also sell elsewhere in town. There are some lovely homeware and gift items such as art prints, lots of jewellery, knitted crafts, clever wooden items and ttweed purses, cafetieres etc. This market is not well advertised, as like others, I came across it by chance one day. The hall location is good for all weathers and for picking up Morningside foot traffic when the sign is out. However, the downside is that there are so many good home and giftware shops in the Morningside and Bruntsfield area, that they have a lot of competition.

I'm a crafter! I needed a hobby to get into as I've been unemployed, so, I've turned to making…read morecards and scrapbooking. It's going well so far... I always though Hobbycraft at the Fort was the go-to place for all my crafting needs. But, living in Paisley, that can be a little difficult to get to (though I'll probably just order online if I need anything now...). I did a basic google search for craft shops in Glasgow, and this was the only one that suited my needs, so off I went to Craft World! From Hillington West train station, it's a bit of a walk, but I was so excited to be going there, I didn't really care. So anyway, I get there and it's an Aladdin's Cave of wonderful crafting goodies. Christ I could spend all day and a whole lot of money in here. It has everything you could ever hope to need. Rows and rows of scrapbooking paper, embellishments, punches, cards, die cuts, things to stick stuff together, paper...I could go on. The staff are really nice and friendly too. They also have a loyalty scheme where every £5 you spend, you get a sticker and when you fill the card, you get £25 to spend in store! Believe me, it's easy to rack up lots of stickers in one visit...

They have over 200 types of ribbons, and beautiful buttons, and lots of craft tools. But the felt! Oh the felt! They have a great range of felt - both loose felt for needle felting and felt sheets, in lovely colours. I bought a lovely gift card too - they have a good range of beautiful designs. This is easily the best stocked craft shop I've been in - it's so much better than anywhere in Glasgow. I would actually come here from Glasgow in order to buy craft goods. It's that good.

It sells the usual brushes, pencils (way fancier than would ever find in WHS), paper and even high quality charcoal. They pride themselves in selling the latest high quality canvases for painters and (apparantly) interior designers. They had lots of deals on for acrylic paints and high quality paper as well as plenty of artwrok to admire throughout the shop. The owner is friendly and just lets you look around without asking if you require assistance every five seconds as some small business owners can have a tendency of doing. If you're an art enthusiast, or just want a look around at some artwork, Just Art is a good place to look.

Once again this is a shop that offers goods beyond my means, but if I could afford them I would be doing more than window shopping here. I have on occasion been in here to see all the art and its staff didn't seem to mind me passing an appreciative gaze over these artworks despite the fact that it appeared fairly clear that I was never going to buy any of them. Each of the better works of art from here will set you back a sum in the hundreds, but you are getting something unique - this isn't some cheap printed copy of a work of art everyone has seem - this is the real McCoy - the original. For many the price will be stumbling block and for those able to afford these works for arts I remain envious.

As I entered the shop the staff member was quite chatty asking if I had come to Aberdour due to the gala week etc. Chatty, friendly staff are always a good indicator that a shop is good. As I wondered around I noticed textiles, wooden furniture, hand crafted items and colourful clothing accessories. All seemed to be reasonably priced and a lot of it seemed to be made locally. A quirky wee shop, and one I did not expect to find in Aberdour.
