Stephanie has always been responsive if I needed supplies and vetting has been much more prompt than when I have fostered through a local shelter. I adopted my fifth foster. She clearly was rescued from a bad situation as she came with a lot of fears and had puppies before she was a year old. She is getting over her fears and is flourishing. I've only had purebreds before, two from breeders and one from rescue, and my dog from FBM is literally the best dog I've ever had. She came at the right time in my life and has become my best friend. I am so thankful for this rescue and will continue to support them through donation and foster. read more

Alrighty here we go with "the entire story" of Big Mutt Network experience #1 of 4 total. My first foster dog ever, Bubbs who turned into a foster to adopt outcome. Bubbs came from Santa Cruz Animal Control in Nogales, AZ. I remember contacting BMN stating I was interested in fostering him, if he was ok with cats and kids. I was out of town, but once I was back I would be available to take him. Stephanie said she had someone who could pick him up and keep him until then. I remember she mentioned the temp foster had many children and dogs and he did well with all. I have the foster email assignment dated 9/10/21 from BMN. 9/14/21- We met Stephanie at a gas station to get Bubbs. She provided a kennel and half a bag of food. She mentioned he would need a grooming appt and most likely a trainer (can't remember if that was mentioned because of the cat or being a spazz), but she would set all that up. Ok awesome all sounds legit. Once home he did fine other than trying to eat the cat... Stephanie offered to order a shock collar for him on Amazon, but I told her no worries I still had one from our old dog. Shortly after his arrival it was clear he had kennel cough. Ok no biggie most dogs coming out of shelters do, however she was not quick to make him a vet appt and asked if I had any doxy on hand. No I prefer my animals to be healthy so I don't have vet meds at my disposal. 9/17/21 I get him in with my vet to be treated for diarrhea, kennel cough, and receive shots because there was zero medical record on his wagtopia file. $150.21 total for that vet visit. A few days after that Stephanie informed me she had made him a neuter appt at low cost clinic in Tucson (this will be the only time I've ever been granted a vet appt with this rescue) I told her he's still really sick and not showing any improvement yet so I don't think it's ideal for him to be having surgery. She cancelled the appt and then started asking me if I was going to keep him forever because she has potential adopters lined up. Umm yes I want to adopt him, but I haven't even had him 2 weeks and he's still sick and not neutered.... The hounding continued. 9/28 I have a $12 charge from the vet when I had to pick up more antibiotics for him to be on to eradicate the kennel cough. 9/29 adoption contract email 9/30 I paid a $275 adoption fee for a dog I had already spent $162 and some change on and was still needing to be neutered. At this point I'm annoyed with how everything has been handled, but I love my dog and can only hope the adoption fee helps others. This was also my very first foster to adopt experience so unfortunately I was a victim of the fraud. I had kept asking Stephanie for his microchip info so I could get it put in my name. I either got no reply or was told she had to check with the woman who deals with those... come to find out THERE WAS NO MICROCHIP. That was a blatant lie. 12/30/21 Bubbs was neutered, MICROCHIPPED, and got a dental done with an extraction due to a broken canine he came with that had exposed root. $472 total. So there's that first saga. Again I was naive and didn't know how these foster to adopt situations play out... it wasn't until I realized she completely lied about the microchip that I knew the director's motives are not solely genuine. While resource constrained, TBMN manages a seemingly impossible task of rehoming (with evaluations, transportation, medical needs, etc) thoudands of dogs across the country with a network fosters, vets and volunteers. They are super efficient (vs high touch which causes some neg feedback) which is exactly what's needed to save the most number of dogs. I attempted to type out my entire experience and ran out of characters because it was too long. I fostered two puppies from The Big Mutt Network, experiencing numerous issues: So the condensed version is below. December 10 2024 initial phone call with Stephanie and she exclaims how excited she is to be branching out to a new area to foster. My contract is secured for Scoop and Yoshi. Two giant puppies set to come from las cruces, NM. It was a very short screening process and she seemed very frazzled. Red flag number one. December 18 2024 Yoshi and Tyson (Hickory) arrive two days later than promised at 6pm. I'm given one kennel for two 45lb dogs, two leashes, one harness, two dog beds, no food and no pee pads. Both have kennel cough. Scoop my original foster promised dog was adopted and I was not informed until the morning the dogs were set to be delivered. I was asked if she could give me another dog in place. Red flag number two. - I was provided $40 for the dogs. Not even enough to get food and pee pads. They went through three packs of pee pads in one week that I paid for with my own money. December 26 2024 One develops a secondary infection and no vet appts are made by Stephanie. Instead, I acquire clavamox from a local vet to treat the infection. Red flag number three. In the meantime, I text daily updates with their health info, how they're settling, behavior, and my health. Jan 2 2025 inform Stephanie it's just not working with hickory. He's the younger puppy who had the secondary infection. By the time he's healing, I've caught the flu. He becomes too destructive and too much to manage while living alone and being very sick. Inform her it will be best to begin looking for rehome for both pups. Jan 5 2025 reiterated hickory really needs to go and my health is rapidly declining. The stress of hickory destroying my belongings and generating ungodly amounts of laundry because he was peeing on my blanket while I was sick was too much. Here is where runaround really begins. she says her husband can come from Arkansas to get them in Cerrillos, NM them by Wednesday January 8 2025. Monday January 6 2025 her husband leaves late Tuesday January 7 2025 her husband is unreachable all day Wednesday January 82026 she reported that husband is less than six hours away. Two hours later. Stephanie says her husband doesn't want to come get the puppies anymore. Most important take aways- Disorganized and rushed initial contact: Short screening, frazzled coordinator (Stephanie), and late puppy delivery. Inadequate puppy care: Puppies arrived with kennel cough, no supplies, and insufficient initial funds. Lack of communication and support: Difficulty finding forever homes for the puppies. Unclear and constantly shifting pickup plans for the puppies. Stephanie's husband abandoned the pickup attempt. Ultimately, I felt abandoned by The Big Mutt Network and were forced to consider surrendering the puppies to a shelter when her husband abandoned the pick up attempt. Stephanie acts under the guise of doing the best for the dogs. I disagree. I think she has spread things out too far and too wide so now it's about quantity and the quality of the rescuing sucks. There were so many things that occurred during my foster experience that never needed to but Stephanie created problems because she was disorganized and made false promises multiple times. Maybe she has a problem with saying no so she overcommits. I don't know. What I do know. I'm not an unreasonable person as she called me. It's not unreasonable to remind her that these dogs are her responsibility, not mine and that when she messes up, it is on her to clean up. I was terribly sick with the flu. I still am recovering as I write this. Instead of alleviating stress and helping the situation, she left me and two puppies high and dry at the worst possible time. As far as I'm concerned, I came up with their solution by not abandoning them when she did. I suggested putting me in touch with the other fosters. And less than six hours later, I had agreeance from two other fosters that were willing to pick the puppies up that day. She had been working in this since Thursday and told me she did everything she could. Yet somehow couldn't get them picked up by anyone including her husband who bailed when he was literally less than six hours away from where I lived. It was a blatant lie. She is really good at empty promises and sounding like she will follow through but she does not when it matters most. Other people seem to love her very much and stand by her. I'm sadly not feeling that way. If you are considering this rescue, I say think long and hard. Do your own research. I think she is trying to do something good but unfortunately I can't unsee her as a fraud who made really big errors with other people and dogs lives. I don't recommend fostering here. read more

Ask questions about your dog before adopting! They will withhold information until you ask and even then you may not get help. All dogs should have paperwork when adopted and none go home with any! They say they're fully vet checked but where's the proof? Communication depends on how inexperienced you are it seems like so if you have issues don't expect help. Rescue is hard enough and adopters shouldn't have to suffer because of money. read more

I had an amazing experience with these guys! They helped my Irish Wolfhound mixes not only get adopted, but transported to Arizona to their new family! The brother & sister were adopted together and I couldn't have picked better adopters for these two! They have helped many from my area near the TX & NM border. I am a long-time, experienced Great Dane owner and also very experienced with dog training. We were told "Ducky", an 8 month old Great Dane mix, was amazing with kids, calm, great with everyone, yada yada yada. We were also told he would be neutered a week before we drove from Portland, OR to Los Angeles, CA to pick him up. We were told by Stephanie the day prior to leaving to get him that he hadn't been neutered yet. We chose to continue to pick him up and have Stephanie organize his neuter in Portland, which was her way of fixing the situation. When we picked him up, he barked at everyone and was clearly very scared. That's normal, but it turns out that he was extremely under socialized. He is also DEATHLY afraid of kids! It's so bad, in fact, that his trainers and behaviorist not only think he wasn't socialized with kids, but that kids must've hurt him. They had him for several months, so he should've been socialized properly! We have paid over $8k so far on just training and behavioral modification alone! He is afraid of stores, umbrellas, moving doors, people in general. He's really lucky he has us because we won't give up on him. We also never heard from Stephanie about his neuter so we neutered/gastropexied him at our vet. When I reached out to her to pay at least a small portion of it, I received excuse after excuse for why she can't pay me yet, but "will". It's been 4 months since I reached out to her, and she always says she's waiting on adoptions before she can pay me back. This is on top of us paying the adoption fee plus an additional $250 donation, but she can't pay me even $100 for the biggest part of her own contract. Avoid this "rescue" at all costs. They don't know what they're doing. read more

Norma and Sonya and the rest of the volunteers are great. My wife and I started out trying to foster. After going through the process, we now have adopted a beautiful engilsh bull dog. Bigg Mutt took care of the spay for our dog. Which was very expensive due to the conditions. They also gave us medicines, collars, food, bedding, leash, toys, and a lot of time and effort. I've been fostering for Big Mutts, who took on responsibility for this dog from my city's Animal Services. Our pup became severely ill after we had her for almost 2 mo. Stephanie was very helpful and approved us using our vet for treatment and put an advanced credit with the vet. She had 3 dogs in critical care vet units at the same time, with enormous expense. 1 died. Stephanie has given us credit thru pay pal for pup's food for us to purchase. I think Big Mutts take on hard to place dogs found as strays or dumps, and therefore often come with underlying illnesses. I am so dissatisfied with the process of the adoption I just went through with y'all and can't even get anyone to discuss it calmly or rationally on the phone or via email or text. I just got insulted and reprimanded by a volunteer for asking questions and told they wouldn't even finish with my new pup's vaccines after paying a huge adoption fee AND I had to pay for his vax and neuter out of pocket because no one will follow through or respond to me. I got a great dog out of it but will be sure to let everyone know how awful this experience was and not to get involved with this organization. This all started with my interest in fostering to adopt a dog: I was told I would have two weeks to foster and decide to adopt but I had to drive to Lordsburg, NM to pick the dog up on my own dime. From the moment I got the dog I was getting texts from a volunteer asking if I was going to adopt him already. Then the texts began stating that there were multiple applications to adopt the dog so I better decide quickly. When I spoke up and restated the agreement they have the person backed down. When I finally did decide to adopt, my new dogs adoption fee was quite large. The volunteer had told me she would take off $50 for driving to pick up pup in NM. After paying the adoption fee everything went downhill: I found out the pup still needed all vaccines except bordatella and one of a series of three Parvo shots, he was not neutered and did not have a rabies vax. When I inquired about these things I was brushed off, they told me they would schedule the appointment but wouldn't tell me where or when to make plans in my work schedule. I was assured since the adoption fee was meant to cover initial medical costs of my new pup that they would cover the costs but as soon as I adopted him it seemed they stopped responding. I went to get my pup neutered and vaccinated so he could recover and be ready to start puppy classes, and when I let the organization know I got him neutered they told me that I had violated my adoption contract (there i nothing in contract about this) and that they would only reimburse me for the cost they would have paid at their vet and that they would not be getting him and more vaccines/care because I had set out to take care of him on my own. They have not reimbursed me any money, they will not respond to me any more, and I have submitted a claim through PayPal for a partial refund. My $525 rescue dog has now cost me ~$1000 to adopt. I am beyond upset at how this has played out. read more

We foster failed a Dogue from TBMN. She had heartworms and they provided all the medicine and transports to the vet. We felt completely supported by all the volunteers, especially Stephanie Campbell. They were so easy to work with, we told them what we were looking for in a dog and they had a recommendation for us in less than 24 hours and arranged a meet and greet within a day. The process was very simple and exactly as described for the adoption fee mentioned. They followed up with all of the microchip and vet info within 24 hours via email. Adopted a Great Dane last week and it has been a terrible experience. The dog still had sutures from her spaying, had diarrhea since before I adopted her. The Big Mutt Network has not provided me with paperwork or the name of the vet she was taken to. This has turned into a nightmare. I'm also disabled and while I'm physically and financially able to take care of this sweet dog, I cannot afford high vet bills at this time. I have contacted them with very little response. The dog now has bloody stools and is losing weight and they obviously don't care as they have not responded. Time to contact animal welfare and alert them of this company's inability to take care of the adoptee and the adopter. Then on to the Better Business Bureau. And possibly legal representation. Unethical decisions about the animals they adopt out including the safest time to spay or neuter your pet is practiced. They use bullying and threats to insist you use their low cost veterinary care for your new family member. Lesson learned go to PACC or humane society.
