I arrived at PetSmart Kearny at 10:10 for my 10am appointment. My groomer was Jessie. She said my…read moreservice would be between 3-4hrs. I mentioned that my dog did have some matting, Jessie automatically said I'll be charged the maximum for the matting. This was before even assessing my dog's fur. Therefore I was charged a 30min and a 15min dematting fee for a 12lb Shih Tzu/poodle. I returned to PetSmart Kearny at 2:30pm.(Over 4 hours later) I was told by Jessie, who at the time was in taking a new dog, that my dog is not ready because they had many dogs today. She suggested that I go pay and come back in 30mins for my dog. I took the receipt and that is when I noticed the double matting fees. I went back into the salon to question the extra charge on top of my dog not being ready in the 3-4hour window. I said I would like my dog now since she is not being cared for and I'm being overcharged. The other groomers in the salon except for Robyn started defending Jessie saying there were many appointments today. My dog is a twin and is not used to being away from her sister for a long periods of time. Hence why I heard her barking the entire time I was there. Jessie brought the manager who I believe is Natalie. I explained the situation to her and while speaking to her other groomers at the salon were jumping into the conversation. I felt like they were ganging up on me and holding my dog hostage. One groomer went as far to say that she will not argue with me when I wasn't even speaking to her. I said I will not pay for the service if my dog is not ready by 3pm. She went to the back to speak to Jessie and returned to say that my dog will be worked on now but I would have to step out of the salon. I agreed. Gladis is apparently another manager, when my sister called the store to get the name of the manager on duty, Gladis proceeded to tell my sister whom she did not know was connected to me that she just had to deal with a difficult customer and that's why she did not want to share the names of the managers. She eventually did because my sister quickly realized that she had to lie to get the names so I can make this complaint. I paid for the full service when Jessie finished my dog at 2:57pm. When I received my dog I asked Natalie for the name of the groomer that continuously jumped into my conversation with her and she refused to disclose the name. My experience today was like no other. I've brought both of my dogs there multiple times to be groomed by Robin and I've never experienced this extended wait time and I have never been double charged for matting. I feel discriminated against, bullied and this experience definitely caused my dog anxiety.

The staff were all very nice and attentive and did a wonderful job! My doggie was happy after his spa day! lol! I put a four star only bc the timing was off a bit. I felt that it was a longer wait time to pick up the dog from the salon than usual. Three hours was a bit too long but overall they did a good job! I definitely recommend!

When it became obvious that muzzling, scolding and isolation only escalated his unruly excitability, I reached out to Happy Dog Training (Samantha Cordon) for help. Learning to reward Lucky's good manners with positive reinforcement while introducing calming techniques has created a respectful bond between us and a more pleasant atmosphere for our family and guests. Samantha's patient demeanor and true understanding of canine behavior as well as her useful recommendations -- including links to informative literature, tips/exercises and solution-related products -- were an extremely effective mix for shaping our crazed, 16-month-old, 80-pound housemate into a lovable, work-in-progress. The favorable outcome of Samantha's methods made such an impact on our family that I am planning to follow up with a refresher session in a few months as a means to prevent a backslide with my being consistent, and more optimistically -- demonstrate the success of our polite pup.

We absolutely couldn't be happier with Linda at NJ Fix My Dog and the incredible transformation of…read moreour dog Millie. As first-time dog owners, we tried our best to train Millie on our own, but it just wasn't cutting it. We constantly struggled with obedience and her inability to listen to us, intense pulling when we went on walks, jumping, getting mouthy - the list goes on and on. We felt defeated and insecure - but as soon as we talked with Jean and Linda at NJ Fix My Dog, we felt hopeful! They assured us Millie was the kind of dog that could be helped, and they'd be happy to step in.  Throughout Millie's 2 week bootcamp, we received frequent updates from Linda on Millie's progress, photos, and videos. We missed her but we knew she was in excellent care and learning so much everyday. After the 2 week bootcamp, Linda brought Millie home and we were in shock at how well-behaved, and well-mannered suddenly became. The day she came home, Linda spent over an hour with us going over what Millie learned and how to work with her going forward. She also gave us a full document with an assessment of Millie's overall behavior, how to continue to enforce what she learned, and how encourage her along the way.  Before bootcamp, we dreaded going for a walk with Millie because of how she behaved when she saw other dogs (pulling toward them, whimpering, getting anxious, etc.), and how she walked in general (tugging and zig-zagging the entire walk). Now she walks like an absolute DREAM! Right at our side, a nice little trot, ignores other dogs, people, squirrels - everything! We could walk her all day long now, and we look forward to all our walks! Millie used to ignore us when we called for her, or told her "no" if she was doing something we didn't like, but now her recall skills are excellent and she runs right over to us when we call her. She doesn't even try to attempt the bad behavior she used to do, like jumping, getting mouthy, etc., and instead happily relaxes. Her overall demeanor used to be just a little bit intense, always on the lookout for something to get into - but now she is so calm and seems at east with herself. Linda worked WONDERS! We learned so much about Millie through this process, and we truly feel comfortable with what Linda taught us to help Millie be her best self. We feel like we have the tools we need, and the confidence. We feel the support of NJ Fix My Dog now even after Millie is back home - we know Linda is just a call or text away if we need any help.

We were seeking some help with our 13 week old Lab mix puppy's aggressive play issues…read more(nipping/biting) and other behavioral issues (walking well on leash, not dropping items off floor, ground, etc.). We were fully aware of what a puppy goes through at this age, however, we had never seen a puppy so independent/head strong before. Given we have two young daughters (9 & 5), we wanted to ensure our puppy established a solid behavior foundation. We found Jean & Fix My Dog after unsuccessfully working with a few different trainers online. Within the first 30 minutes of our session with Jean, we had already learned so much about both our new puppy's and our own behaviors. After the hour was over, we were very confident we had found the right place to help us with our puppy training. Given the current pandemic, we hoped to find a trainer that could not only help with the behavioral issues, but also socialize our pup well enough to other dogs, people, children, etc. As a result, Jean paired us up with Christy, a trainer who lives on a lot of land, has dogs and other animals, and plenty of people around to help socialize our pup. We spoke with Christy on the phone to go over her approach, felt great about it, came up with a list of behavioral focus areas, signed a contract, selected a day for Christy to come pick up our puppy, and off she went for 2 weeks! The training process was handled so well.. Christy kept us informed with photos, videos, and lots of daily updates. We were even able to do a few online video sessions to see our puppy and to ask questions about how the training was going. It was 100% clear that our puppy was getting the attention she needed and was being trained as part of a family and not as just another dog in a training facility. (SO IMPORTANT!) We were noticing tremendous progress with our puppy over videos after the first few days of training. When she returned home after the 2 weeks were up, it was almost as if we had a perfectly re-wired puppy. It was absolutely clear that the training was effective and our puppy now had a solid behavioral foundation to work with. Christy and her family were extremely loving with our dog, and were clearly able to address all of the behavioral points we asked for through positive reinforcement and appropriate correction practices. Upon her return, we received many instructional videos and a manual to keep us (owners) in line on how to maintain all of the great work put in place. If you were like us, seeking a trainer to help build a strong behavioral foundation for your puppy, I would HIGHLY recommend Christy @ NJ Fix My Dog. We simply could not have found a better situation both for us and our puppy.

I can only say wonderful things about Steph and Good Karma Training. We brought our 6 month old…read moreMin Pin puppy to Steph after we had tried 2 positive only trainers and many puppy classes. With no change or help. We adopted our pup at 4 months and we were the 4th home she had been in. We didn't know much about her past but knew we were not giving her up again. She had SEVERE separation anxiety, resource guarding and a general stubborn personality to control everything. Our neighbors were requesting that she leave the apartment because of the meltdowns she would have for hours when we left. Steph truly saved us and our puppy. She spoke with us very honestly and openly about the training methods she used and her underlying focus was that nothing was unfair or hurtful to the dog. Honestly the anxious behavior our pup was showing slamming herself into the crate was by far more harmful. After a 2 week board and train our dog calm back with the ability to behave as a calm, family dog and in turn she was much happier in everyday living. Our neighbors were happy to have her stay and she's a very valued part of the family who can be included much more now that her anxiety is so much better. One of the most wonderful things is Steph is only a phone call away for ANYTHING or any question we have. Just because our board and train session is over her willingness to help is not. She's extremely easy to get ahold of and goes above and beyond.

After 4 sessions total, our dog had mastered: sit-stay, down-stay, "go to bed", come, out/give, "leave it" and improved her focus on us ten-fold. We've really enjoyed the freedom of taking her off-leash hiking and feeling confident she'll listen to commands regardless of the situation.

Our main goals were to address poor manners when people came over (jumping/barking), poor leash manners (pulling/leading the walk/leash aggression for one of them), and all around general behavior training. We wanted, and needed, help to rectify these things before our son became truly mobile. We emailed Pat on a Friday night and he called the next day. We spoke for over an hour and he reassured us that things would be okay. We scheduled a training session for later that week and haven't looked back. He is an incredible teacher; he took the time to learn about our dogs, our family dynamic, and what our hopes were for the training sessions. He began teaching us right away and showed us how to get into the minds of our dogs. We are five sessions in and there has been such a vast improvement already. We are currently working on walking both dogs and pushing the stroller - a dream of mine - that is soon to be a reality. We genuinely look forward to each session and getting to hang with Pat. Our pack was definitely out of whack but Pat has been instrumental in teaching us how to teach our dogs and reframe our thinking. If you are looking for a no BS, honest, caring trainer/behaviorist, and you are willing to trust someone, and put in the time and work, look no further - he is definitely your guy. We cannot recommend him enough.
