Hello, I'm traveling in Dublin for a couple of months. checking out places. I tried to go to the black door. there was literally no line . the door person said they were done ( which is the term for your not getting in) and then let his scrub friends in. Now I am not the most polished guy but wearing dress shoes, french cuffed shirt and a jacket, I thought I would have made the grade. Apparently not. The only people coming out where a bunch of old dudes (like my self) not models or anything worth the exclusivity. Pretty much don't bother this place is BS. PS the only 5 stars seem to be from young women so probably the only ones getting in and getting a drink. read more

Shocking incompetence from the bouncers here last Saturday night. They aim for quite a mature crowd and so it was. There were quite a few people waiting outside, inquiring quite politely and reasonably soberly about getting in. There was no aggression or drunken messes at all. Well the bouncers didn't have a breeze what to do and started spouting crap about it being a VIP club and if you weren't on the list you weren't getting in. This is obviously not true. So they gave up on this approach shortly thereafter and told everybody to queue to the left. Then they said nobody on the left was getting in. I pointed out that they had asked people to queue on the left but the fella denied it. So we gave up and headed up to The Odeon. It was quite bizarre. They were either completely incompetent or evil geniuses that wanted to get rid of a crowd. I reckon it's the former because the only reason to have turned people away would have been if the club was full and surely they would have just explained that. Anyway, won't be in a rush to encounter those clowns again. read more

Decent club, but this isn't LA. Cop on You want an over 28's club, that's fine. But turning away 50% of your customers is just a sad attempt at being exclusive. Now having said that, I've never been turned away myself, despite being 26, but just watching the bouncers deal with people just makes you lose all faith in humanity. I saw a respectable looking couple get turned away, because the lads shoes were too white. Seriously? Cop on I always say that the way a nightclub deals with their clientele is inversely proportional to how well a country's economy is doing. 2 years ago, they would have been begging us to come in the door, but now that things have picked up, they tell half of us to piss off. Cop on The club itself is actually very good, in fairness. And you certainly feel like a God, if the bouncers decide you're good enough to earn exclusive access to their club. The drinks are extortionately priced, but that doesn't seem to matter to morons like myself on payday. Anyway, as usual I've been waffling on about nothing, so I'll leave you with this: I want this club to fail. I want them to go out of businesses. I want to see them beg for customers while doing so. I can't give them a bad rating though, because it is actually a good club inside, like 4 stars good. And if you can get over the exclusive vibe the club gives off, you'll certainly enjoy your night here. In really hate this world we live in read more

What can I say, a place that is still rocking at 5am is worth a good review! Was here last Friday night for the first time, and was mega impressed. The layout, the crowd and love love love the music. It's so hidden away I never knew it existed until a girl from work mentioned it. The vibe is great and it's such a mixed crowd, generally the early to mid 30's. It's definitely my new hang out place and a must too check out if you haven't! read more

The black door is in an excellent location on harcourt street so really easy to go to from any city centre pub or restaurant. There is a cool vibe inside with live music downstairs and an area to get the dancing shoes on. There is also a pretty big smoking area to hang out. Often find these areas the best place to have a chat. Sometimes they have an over 28 policy so beware! Dropped one star because it can get cramped but overall great place for a night out! read more

Have to say, what a swanky new joint. Heard about it but I didn't know it was a two minute walk from work. The music was amazing - With pianists and guitarists banging out funky tunes jazz style. It does get a bit packed downstairs but you can always come back upstairs for air. Open until 5am - these long opening hours are playing havoc with my dark circles and make Mondays unbearable but life is there to be enjoyed and you can certainly do that here! read more

Hands down this is my club of choice in Dublin!! Open till 5 am with great music and hot dancing! Always slammin, loads of people and a fun crowd. The staff is fantastic - and the manager is as sweet as he is good looking. Highly recommended if you are ready to have a good time!! ;-) read more

I deliberated for a while over whether or not I should add this Business or selfishly keep it to myself, but now that it's gotten pretty popular I might as well spread the joy. The Black Door is a swanky mix between a jazz bar and a wine bar. From 10 to 2 am (ish) you can relax on the comfortable seating area and enjoy a timeless repertoire performed by a very skilled musician. Around 2 or 3 the live music is replaced by a DJ and the snazzy, intimate bar is immediately transformed into a frenzied dance floor until the wee hours. The smoking area is heated and covered, the dress code is quite classy and so is the clientele. Despite the fact that I only rated it 4 stars (because I think security could be a little less tolerant with messy, drunk men), this place is without a doubt one of my all time Harcourt Street favorites. read more

Was here for the first time on Friday night. When we arrived we were escorted downstairs by the friendly staff to be seated and given a glass each of bubbly. It was kind of quiet at 11 ish and I was a smidge worried that it was just going to stay that way. Fear not the place was jammed fairly shortly after that. The musicians were great too on the piano and then there was a DJ. If you're up for a long night out on the tiles hit this spot...Older crowd aswell which is right up my 30 year old street these days. Have zero complaints...try it! read more

I have been here a couple of times recently enough. While I love the live music I must say I find the lack of dance floor really lets it down. If you want to have a quite drink somewhere with live music, then this is the place for you. However, if you are looking to go dancing, I would advice switching venues. read more

01.01.17 We arrived at Black door and there immediately was a miscommunication with the entrance fee and the included Cocktail. Instead of taking care of the problem I was treated very disrespectfully by the owner. I'm not sure he was the owner because he was aggressive and belittled me like I was a little child. The worst part about it, it was something that could have been taken care of promptly and without attitude. It was a mess, because no one was informed but polite until this person showed up (he was called without our knowledge).We did not want any trouble, nor were we rude or obnoxious, but the way we were scolded and the scene that the owner made with people glaring over to us to see what was going on. What added confusion that after all this embarrassment he ended up buying us the drinks we wanted all along but tried to force us to take the other ones as well even though I repeatedly said that we did not care for them. We were humiliated. We will certainly never go there again, never recommend it and we already told our friend that works at a well known restaurant in Dublin not to recommend it anymore either. read more

Host at the door was very rude, barking orders at customers in the queue (Host - not bouncer). Then when we were inside, standing beside the bar, a bouncer told us we should move into the next room, where there was less people. Never had that before in a nightclub! There was just 3 of us! Booked a specific area here for 24 people. Had viewed the venue in person beforehand and confirmed the area very clearly on email and whilst standing right in front of the staff member who showed it to us. On the night we arrived to find it had been given to another group. We had been given two smaller tables in another area that meant our group was separated. Not good enough!! Owner is a jumped up, arrogant and rude invdividual who would not let me speak when I tried to complain and find out what had happened. He told me we were lucky to be in the 'best club in Dublin' and to put up and shut up or leave. Absolutely appalling. read more

Not usually my kind of place but had a great end-of-evening-cheeky-last-drink in here last night. The door staff are quite selective and rightly so considering the state most people are in at that hour of the night!! My husband wasn't wearing the correct footwear and popped home (2 minutes away) to change. Although they weren't letting more people in they said he was welcome back we he returned,I was astonished at this!!! Colin,the maitre d couldn't have been nicer and more hospitable,in fact I highly commend all the staff for their patience and good manners. A few other establishments on harcourt street could learn a thing or two from these guys!!! read more

I was here previously on a Sunday night and had a great night, mainly due to the music. However we tried to get in here on Saturday night and were disgusted by the behaviour of the main bouncer. There was a group of about 10 of us, ranging from 27 to 29. The queue was split in two and at the first section the bouncer asked a member of our group for ID, he is 28 but had ID on him and gave this to the bouncer. The bouncer then let our group to the second section of the queue. Once we got to the top the "main" bouncer asked for ID for all our group (this was after we queued for about 30 minutes from being asked for ID by the first bouncer). We told him we were asked for ID already by the other bouncer but he said he wanted ID from all of us. We told him that as we are all well over 18 that some of didn't have ID, he said if we didn't have ID to get out of "his" queue, one of the girls in our group was trying to tell him that we had queued for well over half an hour to be asked for ID again and they just wasted our time and he basically told her to shut up and go back to the back of the queue. I wouldn't mind the same bouncer was letting groups of girls skip the queue who were obviously not even 21 years of age. The attitude of the bouncer really has me turned off this place and I will not be returning again !!! read more
