    Foxy Burger!
    Kazz W.

Would go as far to say that The Black Fox is the best place in Edinburgh for a burger. Big claim I know, but try it. I had the Foxy Burger which was bacon and cheese beef burger with pulled pork which was a mountain of food, but only order if hungry! The wife had the Veggie burger along with some haggis bons to share, which was a hell a lot of food, but very much enjoyed! Will definitely be back!

    Lovely new pub!

Went here when it had first opened and the owner could not have been more accommodating. Definitely a good new Leith hotspot, really lovely atmosphere and tasty foods. Did not try any of the cocktails but surely will next time I'm in. Can't wait to come back and sample some more of the menu as well! Love fentimans lemonade over the fake fizzy rubbish so that was an added bonus in my book.

We only stopped in for a round of drinks and man were they delicious. They have alcoholic slush machines! The music was good. There were a lot of people but it didn't seem that overwhelming. We were able to get seated rather quickly.

The Black Fox has only opened about a couple of years I would say. I am glad it took over that dingy bar it was before. It really spruced up the place and attracted more decent crowd into the Leith. The bar is has a good sized area and quite a small kitchen. This place attracts mainly hippy young locals and it is usually crowded during the weekend evenings. There are plenty of area to sit as well for food. If you get a chance on a quiet afternoon, sit by the window with your food and drinks and gaze at the people that passes by. I am not going to explain much about the drinks as they are quite standard. However, the food here is amazing for a bar. I am never a fan of pizza and burgers when I am out eating as I think they are just a waste of money. However, I was extremely impressed with the pizza. I think they have the best pizza in Edinburgh. The toppings are by far the most I have seen in Edinburgh. They are extremely generous with the toppings. The base is also thin and cruncy just how I love them. Please give the pizza here a try and I really hope someone agrees with me that they serve one of the best pizzas in town. Another recommendation is the Pork and Chorizo burger. I have always wanted to eat this again after The Holyrood 9A stopped serving them. Bad decision. They are actually the best burger I have eaten as the pork and chorizo combination makes the meat very juicy, tender and full of that chorizo oil flavour. I was never a fan of the normal beef burger anyway. The onion rings here are crunchy, deep fried well any never stingy on the portion. I would happily come back here again to eat comfort western food. The kitchen is so small and sometimes I wonder how they make such good food from such a small kitchen. Really delicious and good portion.

Nice place for a pint, decent service but no WiFi neither 4G access for phone data, which is a real bummer. Hope they'll fix it any time soon.

A goo place for burgers and a drink. The beer list is local and reasonably varied. The place was busy (festival time), and the staff worked valiantly to keep up. The burger included both a tasty tossed salad and a coleslaw. Nice touch! The spicy chips were nicely spiced but lacked crunch.

    Hoisin duck pizza - yum!

Just visited The Black Fox for the first time and was really impressed. It has fantastic decor and atmosphere, and the staff were absolutely lovely. The food was really tasty - I had the hoisin duck pizza which was a little sweet for my taste (at least to eat a whole pizza of!) but really delicious, and my friends had burgers which were devoured. I can't wait to go back and try some of the cocktails which sound quite different. Definitely a great new addition to Leith Walk.

In what used to be a rather dodgy looking gay bar, suddenly The Black Fox popped up. Not quite over night but the first few weeks when i walked past i wasn't sure if the bar was aiming for the same clientele or trying something new. luckily though it was the latter and after a few weeks of planning i finally made it there for cocktails and dinner with some friends. now i'm sure the place has had a re-vamp but i'm not sure what the inside of Priscilla's had looked like before Black Fox took over. anyway it seems to have gone the theme of many new bars with that slightly industrial chic look. it works mostly although some of the decorations do leave me wondering if someone happened to just place that empty bird cage there or if they actually meant to do it. either way it's a perfectly pleasant atmosphere that has quite a buzz when the tables are full. the menu is fairly concise with offerings of gastro-pub type food. think gourmet pizzas, hotdogs, and burgers with a good mix of toppings available. there is also a small starter and dessert section. on it being friday, my friend and i decided to treat ourselves to a small version of the cheese board and i followed this with a 6in pizzette topped with pulled pork. the cheese board came out quickly and for a small at £4.50 it had loads of cheese. easily enough to split between three people and not just the two of us. we got a massive side of bread with it as well although i would have preferred oatcakes as bread and cheese is just not really the best combination. our mains arrived a wee bit latter and my pizzette was super tasty. for 6 inches it was the perfect size for dinner without making myself feel stuffed. the pulled pork had a good bbq-y sweetness to it and there was loads of melted mozarella to bring everything together. i had a bit of my boyfriend's pork and chorizo burger that was also seriously tasty. the chips i ordered on the side though while having a tasty spicy coating of them were not as crisp as i would normally like them. the drinks list is quite good and not pricey. cocktails start at £6 and the two i had were really well made and enjoyable. the second being a bit more boozy than the first. there's also a good selection of spirits on offer and the normal wine and beers. while this place has a lot going for it, including really friendly service it is let down a bit by their tiny kitchen. it's basically in a corner just off the bar so when it's crowded your food order can take awhile. in fact when we sat down we were told that she couldn't take any food orders for 25 minutes to help the kitchen clear it's backlog. which is fair enough and meant that we had more time to look at the menu. however if you're super hungry you might not be happy to hear you'll have just a 25 minute wait to even order your food. for the future i'll just keep that in mind and make sure i arrive just on the verge of being hungry! overall a really great addition to leith walk and some place i'll be sure to head back to.

Just the right amount of ginger to pack a punch but not enough to be overpowering. The OH had a pint of draft beer & seemed happy enough. The low ceiling means it gets noisy even if it's not packed. There was a stag do, 2 birthday parties and hen group as well as some other folks. It was only just possible to hold a convo at normal volume & be heard. There's a decent sized courtyard out the back too but it was too wet & cold to try it out. I'd definitely visit again but maybe on a week night when it might be a little less noisy.

I finally sipped on a 15-year Tamdu that has convinced me to keep a bottle at home. Then there's the Clydeside 2024 Limited Edition Cask Strength that was wicked impressive. The bartenders are class at making and serving seasonal and regular cocktails that have their spin and character. My wife enjoyed gin-based cocktails such as the Clean Slate (with St-Germain, citrus, and sugar), Rose Garden (with Yellow Chartreuse, Cocchi Rosa, apple, lemon, and mint), and Bee's Knees (honey and lemon). I went full speed ahead with the scotch cocktails, which are essentially classics with a scotch-substituted twist. The Double Shot is an Espresso Martini with Dalmore 12 in addition to Kahlua, espresso, and demerara -- quite smooth without being too sweet. The Scotzia is a Negroni with Fettercairn 12, while the Boxcar is a Sidecar only with Aberfeldy 12. We enjoyed the bar for a few hours, watching the bartenders make magic while sipping on cocktails, while listening to 80s pop tunes. A great evening indeed.

Besides the fact that both were into motorcycles (and one came to Edinburgh once and immediately backed up his bags and moved over from Italy - props), we found out that they could make a mean cocktail. We, of course, started on menu, but wanted to see if they could do any variations, which they not only did, but nailed: "do you like bitter or sweet" - bitter "Floral or not so much" - surprise me "base?" - gin Dunno what it was called, but it was one of the nicest gin drinks I had in a town that is crazy for gin at the moment. Unfortunately what you gain in terms of a strategic location, and charm inside the premises, you lose in terms of the immediate view outside of your room. While the building itself and a few spare stragglers like it in the immediate area, as well as the plaque outside indicating that Arthur Conan Doyle's birthplace was in a once existing building across the street, suggest the surrounding few acres were once as lovely and ancient as most of the glorious historic streets of this ridiculously enchanting town, its sadly no longer the case. Somehow this district avoided historic preservation, and in its current stage is pretty much comprised of at least 50 percent active construction zones with gaping holes of torn up streets and massive building footprints. The remaining half of the area is already completed monolithic hideously modern shopping malls of the type I would suspect must already be gravely threatened by online shopping. At the end of the day it offers a solid value and friendly hospitality in comfy and low key elegant accommodations in a central, if soulless feeling locale. When I visited Edinburgh recently Panda & Sons was one of the places I was looking to the most. However my experience was left feeling very mid. It's one of those things when you research a bar where I live and see also this fun and fancy decor and think to yourself, "Looks cool but are the drinks actually good?" I didn't want to think this though. I spent a little time reading the Switching method in their menu and thought that was a cool preparation method. But when I tasted my Birdcage for example, all I really tasted was Whiskey. I barely tasted any Aperol or anything else. The reason why Im still giving this place a higher review than I normally would is because of the service and ambience. If you've never been, getting down to the actual bar for the first time is a treat in itself. I feel like this was just an off night. It definitely was a full house the night me and my friends went so it's understandable that maybe things just slipped this particular night. I know from personal experience that when the ratios are a bit off, sometimes the flavors just kinda fall flat like an old soda and that's kinda what I tasted in my drinks that night...at the same time I still at least tasted alcohol. A good amount. Now you may laugh and say, "What do you mean? Why wouldn't there be?" Well...where I come from in the states theres places have cool decor and service but serve you drinks with barely any booze and charge you and arm and leg. Thankfully I was stumbling home a bit that night so no harm and no foul. I shall return for the runback the next time I come to Scotland!
