I've been wanting to get my helix pierced for a while. And lately I was feeling a bit down and wanted a change. So obviously piercings are the answer, right?!?! I looked into a few studios across Toronto and couldn't pass up the 2 of 1 deal at Black Pearls. I diligently read reviews, called them to ask questions, and finally decided to make an appointment - for my helix and daith. Now that's a solid change :P When I got to my appointment, the person on the counter was super nice. I filled out the waiver, she answers some questions I had, and I picked my jewelry, They have a good range that is included in the price; I assume they are surgical steel, and/or gold plated. After 2 weeks, they are not tarnished or reacting with my piercings. Mike did my piercing, and he was awesome! We chatted as he was preparing things. He shared some stories, and I felt at ease. The piercing process was quick and although not painless, it was a LOT better than I expected. I'd say like a 4.5/10 for 5 seconds and done! It's been 2 weeks, and I've been following the after care instructions, and it's been okay. Definitely a lot better then my other lobe piercings that I got with piercing gun. 100% recommended! read more

October 2023 I went to get a tattoo from Mike story because his photos online look super realistic and I was super excited to get a tattoo after he did it I paid $1,500 plus tip for the tattoo of an Angel it was a serious botch job it didn't look anything like the photo at all they agreed to pay the money back but wouldn't give me my tip back but agreed to do laser removal now it's 2025 and they say that the machine is broken down and they haven't gotten back to me in 2 months Mike isn't responding just like the first time I started complaining to him and when I asked if they're going to continue to help me out with my removal they said they're going to get me to another place and when I asked him if I have to pay now I haven't heard back for 2 months I would strongly suggest staying away from this place unless you want a botched job. To their credit at least they offered to help remove it and did eight sessions but they didn't even finish that with me I would seriously suggest staying away from this place at all costs. read more

I got my first tatoo from Black Pearl & it was a great experience. Just finished an awesome session with Mike Storey at Black Pearl Tattoo! A gifted artist who specializes in black and white realism artwork. This artist made me feel comfortable and provide excellent feed back on the design and location. In addition, the shop is clean, friendly and well maintained. A couple of important side notes; Once you've committed to an artist, it may take a few months before the consultation but whats the rush? Finding a good artist is 'WORTH THE WAIT' so please remember this. Once you have had the fist consultation, it might only be a week or two before the tattoo work is done. I won't ever get a tattoo but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate them. I've complimented a friend on her flesh art and turns out she had it done here. While I admire their work, this review focuses on their piercing services because of my experience with them. I admit that I acted on a whim when I saw their promo banner advertising "2 for 1 piercings." I'd wanted my nose pierced for a while and after a quick skim of reviews, I went right in to add a new hole to my face. Walk-ins are welcome! Monika did our piercings. I got my nose and my friend got her tragus. It cost us $30 each which is a pretty sweet deal! Even though it's discounted, the care that we received was the best. My friend was a little tentative, but Monika spent 15 minutes showing her tragus piercings she'd done and discussing jewelry. The environment was clean and she handled everything with gloves. She consulted me on each step of the piercing process. I'm not going to lie - it hurt - but I'm thankful cause she did it quickly and accurately. After-care instructions were explained and she gave us a sheet of info along with a complimentary bag of sea salt. I've been there on two separate occasions and I will say that their artists are top notch in terms of skill. You definitely get what you pay for and for that reason I would recommend. However, my 2nd visit was with Shiva who I will say is extremely talented. I am very pleased with my tattoo-so much so that I tried to book another appointment with him to touch up/continue the piece. It took him weeks to get back to me and when he did it was to tell me that what I chose would be too light and to choose something darker to cover an existing piece. When I suggested something else and asked for his input I never got a response. I was extremely disappointed as I really was happy with his work. If he had enough clientele and wasn't interested he could have communicated that with me instead of not bothering to respond. I found it highly unprofessional. If you're willing to deal with that kind of behaviour then I would say go for it. However, I will be taking my business elsewhere as there are too many shops in the GTA with artists who want new business. read more

My friend and I came in a few months ago (earIy November?). I got two lobe piercings and she got an Industrial. The space and staff seemed clean and professional. The piercer told us to use nothing but unscented soap and water to keep it clean- he was very adamant about this. ALL of our piercings have been infected multiple times now to the point where we've used antibiotics of various forms. We still can't sleep on them. They did an awesome job with my double helix piercing today! I have very high standards with body mods (for good reasons, safety first!) and Black Pearl met all of them. I had a mental checklist and they behaved perfectly. I was attended to promptly when I arrived. After signing my waiver, my piercer, Monika, immediately was available for me. Everything she used was sealed and new, both the jewelry and the needles. She made sure I was ok with everything she was doing and answered all of my questions. After my first helix, I took a short break because it was more painful than expected. After that, she changed into a new pair of gloves for sanitary reasons. She was so friendly and professional. She really put my fears at ease, and was patient with me. It was done very quickly. The atmosphere in the shop was very positive. I loved the portfolio of this place and contacted them by email to set up a consultation. I asked if I should come at a specific time the following day. I was told it's not necessary. I got to the location an hour and 10 minutes before closing, I didn't want to be the annoying customer that comes 5-10 minutes before closing. I was told no one's able to help me anymore that day. I contacted Black Pearl upset telling them I specifically proposed a time instead of showing up to prevent something like this from happening - no one wants to waste time and money for something like this. They apologized and few days later I called requesting a specific time for a consultation. I named my favourite artists and I was told both had a wait between 2-6 months. At this point I'm done forever with Black Pearl. First of they want you to travel to their location not caring if anyone is there to help you or not. Secondly, they didn't tell about the long wait via email. So, if you're lucky enough to actually get a consultation, you may get bad news anyways if you want your tattoo done in the near future. Few days later I went to another place and I'm having my tattoo done in few days. Great work Black Pearl but please respect your customers' time and disclose the long wait BEFORE making the customer travel to your location. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars, but 1 is the minimum. When you go to a place to get some permanent work done on your body, you need to trust that they know what they are doing. I had a piercing done and when I told Ashleigh that it was not aligned properly she tried to tell me that it was instead of admitting that her company was at fault. She made me feel very uncomfortable and kind of attacked. So I requested for a refund on my tattoo deposit that I was getting the next week. Monika the piercer here is incredible! Came in a few months ago to get a conch piercing with my friend, and she gave really good advice and it's healing well! Other places like new tribe or adrenaline pay less attention to the specific anatomy of the individual, but Monika was spot on, and offered her opinion to us. The black pearl is a cute, urban piercing and tattoo shop on the Danforth. My friend and I went in to get our cartilage pierced (cost 60$ for both and included the jewelry). The shop was very kind and the people are very understanding. I was pretty nervous about getting my cartilage pierced but mike was amazing. Mike really knew what he was doing and was able to mark both my friend and I's ear perfectly the first time. He was funny and had a really good energy making us feel comfortable. The overall piercing process was so easy and only painful for a second. Overall an amazing environment, experience and I would 100% recommend this location! read more

I was in Toronto and decided I like the look of this parlour by far. Unfortunately the tattoo artist I originally wanted was fully booked so I went with Matt. He has a very specific drawing style and was very against changing his ways for my tattoo - which is 100% fair enough. I totally understand, it was my decision to go through with it and I'm more than pleased that I did. However, the process in which to compromise on my design was a little trickier than I thought. He didn't like not working with colours and didn't want to use grey. He also would hide away in his section of the store and come out to show me what he'd done, while I waited in the front of the shop. It felt very impersonal and that way it took far longer than it should have. My appointment was scheduled for 2:30pm and I had arrived 10 minutes earlier and it wasn't until 4:45pm that I was lying on the table ready to get tattooed. I did have plenty of time on my hands but that amount of waiting and designing was a bit excessive. Even though I love my design, I really do, we didn't work on any of the pieces that I originally wanted. He completely scrapped any of those ideas and made me choose from his portfolio to work on that. His demeanour also suggested like he didn't think I'd go through with it and I wasn't taking this as seriously as he thought and kept trying to put me off, saying he wasn't the right artist for me. Overall I did enjoy my time at Black Pearl, it was very clean and well set out, I love my tattoo and what I walked away with in general, however customer service and general attitude to your clients could be improved. read more

I just got 2 piercings from the owners wife ( the only piercer) I can't remember her name but she was a friendly, professional, very knowledgeable and was sure that you knew the risks and after care. She took the time to make sure it was what and where you really want it. She took you through step by step and was so gentle it was virtually pain free. She was so quick I didn't believe her when she said she was done. The location was easy to find and in a great area easy to get to via subway, car or foot as it is right on Danforth just east of Broadview subway. Although on the 2nd floor well advertised on the street so that you can't miss it. Fair very clean and organized. Will be back for more work. Highly recommend.
