Very good food and service but a tad pricey! Careful though, we tipped twice - we weren't told that the 'Service included'!

Wandering outside of the market I approach this polish supermarket and have a quick peep inside to see what they have to offer. I am not entirely sure what everything is as it is all so unfamiliar to me. As I pick up some kind of vegetable and examine it inquisitively the lady at the counter obviously clocks that I have no idea what is going on here. Very politely she comes over to me and explains what it is and then even tells me how to cook it. Unfazed by my lack of knowledge she chats to me as I wonder round the store and I go away feeling slightly indebted to her for all my new cooking ideas.

It's quite a quaint little place, stuffed to the bring with all kinds of supermarket bits and bobs, and houses a number of polish items that I couldn't begin to attempt to describe. Quirky biscuits, random chocolates, a number of baking oddments and other varieties of foreign goods that I'd not seen before, and was curious to investigate! It's certainly worth having a bit of a glance, just to satisfy curiosity, but I couldn't say that I'd choose to purchase my weekly shop here. Mostly for the inconvenience - I don't live nearby, but also beyond the basics there's not a huge amount in here that I require. The shop assistant was a touch on the cold side when I purchased my random chocolate bar, which incidentally was lovely, but y'know. Perhaps it was a bad day. All in all, another place of interest in Leeds, being as variety is the spice of life!

The usual Yorkshire summer weather preventing us from sitting outside on the decking area despite the parasols and heaters, but I imagine that when the weather's fine it's brilliant to sit here. Replacing the pizza and pasta focused menu of The Lime Tree, the new menu offers more hearty yet refined British and European food. I went for the posh sounding burger in foccaccia bread, and was not disappointed, especially when they topped it with Yorkshire cheese (much of the produce is local I'm told). My company had a steak and trout respectively, and both were impressed with the elegance and taste of the dishes put in front of them. Very friendly staff, a quiet atmosphere and average prices mean that The Limehouse is a good shout for any occasion and - it pains me to say it - better than its predecessor.

We arrived as a party of six and were warmly welcomed. The interior is modern clean and simple and for a nice change devoid of garish Xmas decorations. Being Christmas and a gathering of friends back in their hometown we were all expecting to go for Champagne, but were very happy to see Prosecco on the wine list. Two bottles were quickly dispatched with. The list of five or six starters kept things simple and quick. My Ham Hock Terrine and toasted brioche was well presented and very tasty, maybe lacking a little seasoning if I really wanted to find fault. Others were very happy with the Prawn Tempura. For some reason four of us all went for the same Rib-Eye steak, chips and truffle butter with an order of Duck and Morello Cherries and an order for the Oak Smoked Salmon. This didn't reflect on the choices available, rather the craving for something uncomplicated after the previous days dinners. The steaks were cooked fabulously and the truffle butter is an excellent addition to any meal. A rather nice bottle of Malbec and Sauvigon Blanc during the main course topped off the night. Having a restaurant to yourself can go either way. Sometimes it's an indication that all is not well and the staff can smell the impending doom (and act accordingly). On other occasions it's just an awkward day of the week. The bonus is you get the place to yourself and when the staff are having a joke with you as well it adds to the simple pleasure of friends and food. The Limehouse is not a place I had heard of before but it is one I will be mentioning again.
