More to it than meets the eye. When you first walk in, it's a teeny tiny place. Then you walk around the corner and your suddenly up on a balcony with a huge floor (with its own bar in there). We went there with low expectations. The place turned out to be great. They had a superb 80s band playing some great hits for the night. The waitresses were also in top of their game and keep the caprinhas flowing. Their 'system' was a bit weird. When you enter they require to see your ID. They then enter you into a system and assign you a swipe card. You need the swipe card to buy things. No cash is exchanged until you are leaving the bar. At that point you go to a cashier. Everyone must hand I their card and pay the fee (pro tip: if you are a couple, put some drinks on each card, as otherwise you will be stuck with an admission fee on the zero balance card), then you get a token to leave, which is carefully examined by the bouncers. This is a great spot to watch a soccer match and grab some higher end bar food. I had the chefs burger and it was delicious - the cheese gooey so it fell apart pretty quickly. It was hard to find a spot to sit so take a lap and you will probably find something. They cleaned up really quickly. read more

Oh how I miss dive bars! Most bars we have in SP are HUGE, crowded with pretentious people, loud pop music and muted tvs, not at the Blue Pub! It reminds me of dimmed Irish dive bars found in America! This place is dark (but clean), few lights and windows, lots of high def tv's, lots of import beers, and a nice selection of top shelf booze! Their car bombs are quite generous, ¾ of a pint of Guinness, ¾ of a shot glass of Bailey's and ¼ of a shot glass of Jame-O! The only drawback is their price, plus, they do have a cover charge from Wednesday through Saturday, that's the lame part of it. read more

this was the first restaurant I went to in Brazil because it was close to my hotel and I didn't feel like straying too far on my first night here. had I written this review immediately after the visit, I might have rated it higher, but there are far better dining options. this place gets two stars instead of one only because of the american sports on TV and american/british beers on tap. there's a weird process for getting service. when you enter the restaurant, a hostess hands you a laminated card you have to use every time you order something. after you pay the bill they give you an "exit" card you have to show the hostess in order to leave. very strange. as I mentioned, the beers were good and it was sunday and there was american football on the TV. I sat at the bar. the service was terrible. the waitresses were cute and obviously dressed to please the men, but they were also sullen and not at all helpful. service was slow and almost rude. it was also very dark inside and hard to see the food. maybe this was on purpose. I had a steak sandwich which was just OK. now that I've eaten steak in a few other Brazilian restaurants, this meal wasn't worth it. the only reason I'd go back is to sit at the bar, have a beer and watch american sports on TV. there are far better places to eat in SP. read more

This is a cool spot. Close to Paulista Ave. lots of TVs. They are definitely catering to the English speaking crowd/culture. British beers + American bourbon. Great place to catch a few games. Not as cheap as some spots, but not over the top expensive either. read more

This is the place to go if you are looking to check an American football game. The space is a sort of small, but they have a lot of TVs. When I was renting my short-term apartment and not paying for cable tv, I would come here to catch some of the big games. This place is much better then O'Malleys in my opinion. Although it is smaller then O'Malleys, it doesn't have the fratty college boy vibe like it. read more

This place is highly overated! We have enjoyed some great live music in the past, but this time we went in just looking for a bite ti eat a a cold beer or two. We went at about 930, and found two seats in the little bar in the basement. I cannot believe how rude and disinterested the bartender was! One of the most unfriendly, miserable people I have ever encountered in the service industry. We will NEVER return because of her. The food was pretty crappy, too. And overpriced. read more

I'm a Yank from NYC who travels a fair amount and when traveling internationally will inevitably stop into an Irish or English pub, parochial English-only speaker that I am. Overall, The Blue Pub a good place to watch sports on TV, drink beer, and eat pub food. My first trip to Brazil and SP, and like another reviewer, my first day and I just wanted something easy for food and to kill some time, see what I could see of the Paulista area. I neither ran into nor heard other tourists or ex-pats while there, btw, so there's a local vibe, I think. Overall, a success. It's in a nice neighborhood, and is an attractive building. Friendly staff, not all that great with English but miles better than my Portuguese or Spanish, so they have a leg up on me. They have an English language menu, which I got seconds after saying 'hello'. Food was decent - I got a club sandwich with fries. It was cut in half, not quarters, and the bread was not toasted - not a proper club sandwich in other words, but minor quibbles, right? One fun thing about traveling is seeing the local take on classic dishes. Inside is rather dark (I was there in the afternoon) but a nice two-level setup, with the upper level a horseshoe bent around the stage / big TV. The card you must get upon entering to track the food and drinks you order is an odd twist, but not a deal-killer. Management's way of tracking inventory, I guess. Made leaving the bar feel a bit like leaving a casino. Interpolate what you will from that. Oh, and a final note - there's a bar, but not much seating,or a bartender, so you pretty much have to take a table. That makes it tough for a singleton. read more
