For me, some standouts were the strappy leather sandals on display as you walk into the store. With different varieties of tan, black and brown leather straps all woven in different ways, you could likely find your staple summer shoe among this bunch. I did, but because I didn't have over $100 at my disposal, I had to wink and walk away... making promises to come back (that I hope I can keep). Toward the back of the shop (up the stair, careful not to trip), I found my second little love: Parisian thread bracelets. Made simply out of thick thread and metallic beads and finished with small pompoms, these bracelets are as sweet as they come, and fairly affordable at that. I imagine the pieces come from estate sales of well traveled collectors (that's what we have in the Michigan!). The kookaburra ring tray was outside my budget, but we found a wonderful souvenir for my nephew back in the States. This place is a cooperative of 10 sellers, who share work hours evenly among each other. Friendly, helpful staff - definitely recommended if you are in the area.

They also sell children's furniture, giftware, books and accessories such as amber necklaces. If your children's clothes are fashionable, without tears, stains, without excessive fading and freshly laundered you can sell your clothes to the shop and be paid in cash or you can accept store credit. This kind of recycling can save time, resources and your money and be a great positive social change. There are some wonderful brands available in The Secret Closet including Sprout, Gap, Bebe, Pumpkin Patch, Ralph Lauren and Country Road. Tanya also sews and has handmade goods such as bibs, hair accessories and dresses. You can see an example of the dresses being sold in her shop also. The only challenge is to walk out of her shop without buying anything at all.

All up the walls they have giant shelves displaying their collection of clear Perspex coloured chairs. All their products are by cutting edge designers, their products include funky lamps, there is one I particularly want called Blob M and is well a yellow blob of the letter M, and another amazing lamp constructed from oak and iron named Brave New World. Also they have really cute little gnome tables (the gnome sits holding up the table top) If you are looking to escape reality, make a new one. Go to Kartell and fast track your way to the future.

Alright I wasn't *really* looking for a human thigh-bone trumpet. But they really have one. And a 120 year old ceremonial Mogul helmet from Rajistan. I was actually in Kashgar perving on the jewellery when these and other unusual delights caught my eye. I don't think there is an emporium quite like this one anywhere else in Sydney. As well as the usual Nag Champa, Indian jewellery and mirrored cushions, Kashgar searches the world for unique and rare antiques, and has the most beautiful selection of rings I've ever seen in one of these types of Eastern emporiums. And it smells really nice.

They have some of the most magnificent jewelry, as well as the cutest dreamcatchers I've come across in a long while. Though produce is always fresh and they stock a range of harder-to-find items - like lamb's lettuce, shimeji mushrooms and Thai eggplants - the prices are just too high to do the bulk of my shopping here. In the deli section, a 200 gram pot of bircher muesli is $6, while a small bag of paella rice is a whopping $10. I will pop in here if I'm after a foodie gift at the last minute, as their range of pantry goods include the aesthetically pleasing Simon Johnson products with walnut oil and tarragon vinegar aplenty.
