Loved the food so would definitely go back. The only negative was the customer service. They need more wait staff.

It is quite a large space with light wood and white tones to compliment the maritime feel. I had an attack of photo shyness which is a shame as both the venue and food were snap worthy. We started with the garlic pizza which was melt in the mouth and a nice change from your usual garlic bread. Plenty of gooey melted cheese too. We really shouldn't have ordered it though as our fish and chip main was sizeable. 3 crispy battered pieces of fish on top of plenty of chips and a nicely dressed salad of mixed leaves, capsicum and cucumber. I'm stuffed! The staff were lovely. Friendly and professional. Would be a beautiful spot for a wedding reception but not sure if they cater for that.

Placed on Brisbane Waters which resembles a muddy lake and can smell at times as it doesn't flush regularly. Food is 25% overpriced and a beer and a wine cost me $18. Kids meals cost $15 and come with a drink and ice cream which again is $5 too much when you want to attract families regularly. Sent one pasta dish back as it came out cold and they didn't apologise. Steak was over cooked but the fish and chips were good. Pasta de mare was advertised as local seafood but salmon isn't a local fish! It took well over 35mins to get our meals while there are less than 15 people here and most have eaten already. Kids are complaining. I'm not sure what's going on at this place. Surf and turf over $50! Parking is limited. Lunch = $140 for two adults and 3 children, self serve. I can't say much about the staff as I wasn't able to talk to anyone as they avoid you on the balcony, unless they clear tables to make room for more money...I mean customers. No atmosphere, no music on and nothing to keep the kids occupied. Has not improved since Iguana Joe's days. I'm cannot justify coming back. Better off eating fish and chips at the park adjacent.

Each dish was comprised of a perfect melding of ingredients and flavors, with the John Dory and the perfectly cooked lamb being particular standouts. The dessert--which was really three desserts on one plate-- was also outstanding. The wine list is a bit limited, but there are some gems such as Tyrell's Vat 47 Chardonnay. The only failing was the service, which although attentive missed a lot that you'd expect in this caliber of restaurant. Empty plates stayed on the table too long, and I think we must have requested our wine to be repoured at least a half dozen times. I wish restaurants would just leave the bottle at the table in the European style, as it would be better for both guest and server. Nevertheless, it was a fabulous dining experience, and perhaps my favorite restaurant experience other than Tetsuya in all of Sydney, so they are definitely knocking it out of the park here. Great restaurant.

Exceptional is how I would describe the Gantry in one word…read more In particular, the service was outstanding. The Gantry is located in the Pier One hotel. The 5 star hotel delivered top knotch 5 star service at the Gantry and throughout the hotel (I find that some 5 star / hatted restaurants do not quite deliver on the service front - but not with the Gantry!). After taking a leisurely stroll along the harbour on Walsh Bay, my dining partner and I arrived at the steps of the Pier One hotel for lunch. They say first impressions count, and I was wowed. We were greeted with friendly, genuine smiles upon arriving at the steps to the hotel, from the bell boys outside, door staff, conceirge and reception. The reception staff guided us to the restaurant. The hotel and restaurant are new, shieke, and have a vibe of understated luxury. The bathrooms even had a couch and a framed, wide floor to ceiling mirror! The restaurant staff were just as friendly, and extremely attentive and polite. We were sat right next to the harbour on a table on the outside section of the restaurant (on the wharf) straight away. Our waitress was lovely. No request was too much - from asking for a cocktail list when the bar was not open, to requesting the sun-shade to be raised up so that we could get a better view of the harbour. The food and drinks were outstanding - especially the mains! We had: - Salmon gravlax and grapefruit entree - extremely fresh, clean taste. I'm salivating thinking about this dish. The novelty of the dish was that the grapefruit was the same colour as the salmon so you wouldn't know if you had a piece of fish or grapefruit until you eat it or inspect it closely. - Scallops (one with coconut and lemongrass, one with ginger and soy sauce) - average. - Grilled garlic butter prawns - average. - Fish and chips main - the BEST fish and chips I've ever had, hands down. My dining partner had the same thought. The fish was very fresh, perfectly cooked, the batter was crispy and airy at the same time. The chips were fat, a little bit like potato wedges, and were seasoned just the right amount. The crisp on the chip was just right. I'd given up all hopes in finding fish and chips I actually like - and to my surprise, I found it when I wasn't looking for it! People say that certain beachside kiosks / cafes have the best fish and chips and I've been disappointed every time. Now this truly is the best fish and chips I've ever had!!! - Duck breast steak main - juicy, tender duck, and the vegetables, seasoning and sauce made the dish taste delicious. - Sourdough bread with butter - good, but not amazing. Unfortunately, we didn't leave enough room for dessert. Prices are very reasonable considering the location, service, quality of food and ambience. We were so impressed by the Gantry that my dining partner promised a return trip on the spot! This is definitely somewhere I could go again and again.

Not interfering our conversations and just popping over at the right time. The food was flavourful and prompt. There were 4 in our party and we had tapas and a couple of tapas and 3 bottles of wine ending up only $45 a head. Loved the cosy atmosphere that was just the right temperature for an Autumn night. There were no negatives from our night :) Thanks for hosting a great night out for us girls.

We arrived at the restaurant for our 6pm booking to be greeted with a "just a reminder we need you to leave by 7.45pm as we have to set up for our 8pm bookings"... What?! First I heard this!! We learnt that the bookings are done in sessions. There is 6pm or 8pm session. At the time of booking we were not made aware of this and only given the option of 6pm for dinner. We were still waiting on a couple of people to arrive which made the waitress edgy and keep reminding us over and over again about us moving on by 7.45 with a gentle "I don't want to rush you but"... Too late! We ordered drinks and the house bread and hummus dip. By 6.30pm some of the party hadn't shown up yet, we were advised it would be best to just order pizzas as the whole tapas and pizza experience would take time and would be best to try another time. So those of us that were there gave our orders which was returned with another reminder of our 7.45 curfew. By 7pm our last 2 friends had arrived they were followed to the table by the waitress and their orders were taken and issued another "I don't want to rush you but". Finally our pizzas arrived, we had the roasted chicken, peking duck, pepperoni and chilli prawn... Delicious! We finished our food with 10 minutes to spare. The waitress returned to our table to remind us that we have 10 minutes which wouldn't leave us enough time for dessert. A couple more drinks were ordered and the bill was requested. Our last drinks arrived as did the bill to which was met with our 7 minute warning. We paid, finished our drinks and left with 1 minute to spare. All in all the food (that we were allowed to order) was delicious but the fact that every time we saw the waitress we were reminded of our 7.45pm curfew with a "I don't want to rush you but" made the whole experience rushed and unenjoyable!!

All of the food we had was top notch, and the service was friendly and professional, even if there were a few details that weren't perfectly polished. Perhaps because it is a training environment the prices are extremely reasonable, both for food and wine. There's no question that it's the best value of all of Sydney's fine dining restaurants.

Although the food looks great, they didn't taste as good as it looked. I think the best things were the oysters and seared ahi. Oysters were very fresh and the ahi was pretty and tasted amazing! The worst thing was the wine (which Ian didn't drink) and the dessert (hard dry cake which you probably needed a knife to cut and ice cream that almost completed melted on the plate within 2-3 min). Maybe that's how a genoise is supposed to be but we thought it was horrible and couldn't eat it. The pork belly was good but the salad had way too much mayo. Oxtail dumplings were good but I think a little undercooked and almost lukewarm. Brussel sprouts could have been cooked longer. Ian liked the barramundi but I thought it tasted like talaipa (he said it's cause it's a brackish water fish). The servers were pretty attentive. Checking if we needed water and taking away our dishes when finished. But one thing they never asked was how we were enjoying the food. Especially with the dessert, we only took one bite and left it. Overall we were pretty disappointed that this was our only dinner in Sydney on this trip and it wasn't the greatest. I understand it was a school, but I guess we expected it to be great from the reviews we've read and heard from a friend. One good thing is we didn't over eat! Haha! And it was decent prices.
