Overall, it is a sight to see and not to be missed if you are in the area. Free parking in the lot across from it. How the hell did they do that?" or "Gosh, that one there reminds me of that bit in that "Mummy Returns" movie!"....either way, you will have been impressed. Well, Sod that!! Book a flight to South Portugal and go to the Fiesa Sandskulpturenfestival (why is that all one word?). They have a whole village of them, and it is really, seriously impressive! First of all, the theme of the sculptures changes year on year, and when I went there, the theme was "Music", so we spend hours walking around the village looking at sand-drumkits, sand-guitars, sand-pianos, sand-composers, sand-singers.......even sand-Liza Minnelli doing Cabaret! I also really appreciated the music selection they had on. They had several dozens of speakers around the village piping out a pleasant mix of instrumental chillout in surround sound so you hear different instruments from different speakers with very cool echo reverb......a really nice touch! If you stay in the Algarve, this place is an absolute must. Some advice; It was about 21 degrees when we went, but it is important that if you go there during the summer, take sunblock, at least 2litres of water 'cus the bus will drop you off for 2 hours and the drinks are expensive at their bar.

Don't miss the cisterns. They have quite a few signs in English and Portuguese here so this is the place where you can find a lot of information. Unfortunately the stairwell is steep and not exactly accessible. When you get tired walking around you have a coffee or other drink at the cafe in the middle of the castle. They were modernizing the grounds and adding a lot of nice landscaping. Makes me think that they are considering hosting events like weddings in the castle.

The oyster mushroom offered a large heaping portion of roasted mushrooms. Very tender. Sesame sauce is light and bursting with umami and salt. This dish was served cold, not sure if intentional or not, but delicious nonetheless. Will absolutely order again. Perfect for sharing, but the portion was big enough to be an entree on its own. The grilled cabbage is a light dish and cooked with a slight char. The quarter head of cabbage serves as the perfect vehicle for the salty and sweet pepper and sun-dried tomato romesco. I'll note that this is a very thick and chunky romesco, not the typical purée consistency. It was almost the consistency of a tapenade. The Parmesan shavings elevate every bite with a little salt. Would definitely order again. The roasted carrots was another winner. The labneh is subtle and creamy, not too tangy or rich. It actually complemented the carrots quite well and did not overpower the dish. Carrots were cooked fork tender. The pistachios were a nice touch to introduce a little crunch as a distinct textural layer to the creamy labneh and soft carrots. I really enjoyed this dish, but would probably skip next time to try other tapas options. Five stars, even though they didn't have either port I wanted to try! Next time :)

Came here with Speer racing, PPO trackdays, and RSE…read more It was great. Track is fun! Weather was decent. It is a hit or miss and it was good for 2 days out of 4. Still got time to learn the track. MotoGP weekend so they were setting up while we were on track riding. It was Epic! There is a hotel at the track, didn't get a chance to stay here.
