Still the pub is a perfect place on a sunny day. Outside picnic tables to sit on, with a magnificent view of the coast and good array of beers, ciders and ales on tap. The pub itself is small and cosy and almost feels like you have stepped back in time to a proper smugglers pub. For the literary types amongst you, this little islands claim to fame is that it has a hotel that agatha christie used to frequent and based one of her books on.

Just follow the signs past the Mayflower Steps and walk up the hill -- you'll find it! The fish and chips platter is massive. I'm not entirely sure how big a cod is but I think I had most of it on my plate. The chips were very good, as were the mushy peas, but there was just no hope of finishing it. I've had the Sunday roast beef as well, with all the usual accompaniments including Yorkshire Pudding. While it's not the best I've had thus far in my time in the UK (that honor belongs to The Cherub in Dartmouth) it was probably #2 on the list. Much like the fish and chips, it was more food than I could come close to eating in one sitting, but really excellent quality. The gravy was very flavorful and worked well with all the veggies on the plate. It's surprising but nice to have table service in an old pub like the Fisherman's Arms and the place has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I think this is a little more expensive than your average Sunday pub roast, but with the service I think it was worth it.

This is a fantastic pub…read more. I could have stayed here for ages with all the ales they had, but as a busy drinker I had other pubs to see so made do with a couple of halves. The old pedantic was nice but the plymouth pride was the really good one. All brewed on site...I think....I mean it's not like I checked round the back. There are a couple of different rooms and as usual I prefered the more comfortable one without the pool table.

We'd called ahead to reserve a table for 6.15 (for a 7.30 theatre show) and were quickly shown to our table by the greeter. Having reiterated that we were on a deadline, we ordered wine and then speed-read the menu for a swift order. My Ravioli and rocket dish was spot on, as were the two dishes selected by my parents, both from that day's specials. The house white was reasonably good too. Overall, the bill for three mains and three large glasses of house white was just under £50, so that was a reasonable cost, especially given the speedy service and the conveniene of the location. Pretty good, all round.

There are lots of local pictures round the walls. The beers were good, Doom Bar, Tribute and Abbot.personally it was a shame that they only had beers that are common in London but I love Tribute so I was too busy slurping to really worry about this.
