LCBO - My haul. I only wanted to get a can of watermelon cooler, but got a ton more to ring in summer.

My dear friend and I met up in Ajax on Saturday. It's midway between our homes in Peterborough and…read moreMarkham, respectively. We were at the box stores, saw this LCBO, and walked in. I had a rough week last week. I ended up soothing my frustration consuming a few alcoholic drinks on Thursday night. I wanted more! I wanted to check out the latest new flavour, watermelon, from Cottage Springs vodka coolers. I thought that I didn't need a basket. I found my watermelon vodka coolers and grabbed a couple of cans. I then found Georgian Bay smashed tea and vodka smash cans, and picked up a couple. At the back of the store, a cheerful woman was dishing out samples of cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. She asked how I was. I said that I felt like a clown juggling cans of cooler, which made her laugh. My friend is a keeper. She went looking for a couple of baskets for us. She saved the day and my arms when I loaded all my cans into one of them. I sampled the cabernet sauvignon first. It was so good. It had hints of blackcurrant (love!) and blackberries. Both my friend and I sampled the chardonnay. It was light and crisp. As much as I loved both, I went with my first love, the cab, and grabbed a carton, which is recyclable. I then wanted to see if I could get sangria in a can. A helpful customer overheard me and pointed out the cans for me. Nice! I got the white sangria. I swiped my Air Miles card and paid for my goods with my debit card. I was so happy with my purchases. I got everything in a trusty brown paper bag and we both walked out with our goodies. I like this store. I'd come back here again for more alcoholic beverages. (175)

Tip: Collect Aeroplan points here…read more My rating is four stars for selection. It's the female cashier that rubbed me the wrong way - literally with her gloved hands. Yesterday, I was at Baywood Centre grabbing a takeout order for dinner at Quesada. Next door was this LCBO. I frankly don't visit LCBO often. Considering that the Minnesota Wild made it to the second round of the playoffs this year, which the team hasn't done in eleven years, I felt like getting some alcoholic beverage for game 1 of the second round. I put my food in my car. I then entered this store. I noticed that you could collect Aeroplan points here. I last set foot in an LCBO when it had a partnership with Air Miles. Yes, it has been that long ago. I had to find my QR code on my Air Canada app on my phone. I eventually got there and was happy. The wine section greeted me, with cases of seltzer and vodka water also getting into the act. I saw these clear skull bottles by the checkout. It had Crystal Head vodka in them, which looked cool. I ended up in the seltzer and vodka soda area. I like Cottage Spring drinks because they don't have any sugar and I like the flavours. I saw raspberry vodka soda, which was new to me. I got a bottle. It had a twist-off top that was also new. There were two other flavours and I ended up getting a bottle each. One was lime with yuzu. The other was peach. I lined up at the checkout. This store had steady business. I liked the cooler bags that were in front of me. I couldn't find the price, though. I got a female cashier. I said hi to her. She did not respond. I had my Aeroplan QR code in front of her. She didn't scan it. I was putting down my first vodka cooler bottle. It wasn't even touching the counter and she took it from me, making contact with my hand with her glove that had grooves on it. I did not like that contact and how it felt. I did the same thing with the second bottle. Same outcome. I hadn't even placed it on the counter and her gloved hand touched my ungloved hand. For the third bottle, I put it down on the counter closer to me, and retracted my hand. I didn't ask for a creepy, bumpy touch interaction with this woman. I don't know if this action of hers is second nature or deliberate. Either way, I didn't ask for it and it was such a negative, uncomfortable experience. She finally scanned my Aeroplan QR code. Thankfully, she didn't touch my phone. She asked me if I wanted a paper bag. I asked her if it was free. It was. I said sure. I paid with a credit card. I tapped. Done! I wished her a nice day despite the touchy-gross treatment. She said nothing. Why do I bother being nice to such an unpleasant staffer who likes to initiate physical contact with her gloved hand when it is highly unnecessary? The selection of booze is wonderful here. Sadly, this woman put a damper on my experience here. (181)
