While the change affords more shops and accessibility in some ways, it feels more compact and like a shell of its former self when it was in an expansive green space that didn't have traffic running through the middle of it. The arts and artists are as great as ever and it's super fun to walk amongst all of the other patrons, but like it said, it's kind of small and can be completely viewed in about an hour or less.

So many beautiful things for the eye to see while enjoying complimentary snacks and adult beverages. Some venues will have a donation jar out to help cover costs of refreshments. Art, music, friendship and more as you crawl down Penn Avenue. I think this is such a great time for locals and tourists alike.

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Carnegie Museum of Art are located in connected buildings in the Oakland neighborhood, and one ticket is good for admission to both museums. The Andy Warhol Museum and the Carnegie Science Center are located across town in the North Shore neighborhood, and tickets must be purchased separately for each of them. I have visited all four museums many times. The museums have high-quality exhibits for both adults and children. Parking costs extra. Casual restaurants and gift shops are available.

Super cool, this is the 59th year and is the longest running exhibit in North America. This year titled "If the word we". As I was standing in the lobby reading about the exhibit, a small group started to assemble and a docent arrived for a free art walk of some classical pieces on display. In all my years of going to the museum, this was my first docent led tour and it was really interesting. It lasted about an hour and was very interactive with the guests. I really enjoyed.

I got there around 5:20 and I wasn't very close to the front of the line. But because of the wait it was nice to talk to the people around you in line. There were even girl scouts selling cookies to everyone waiting which I thought was genius. They have a big fish sandwich and a small fish sandwich and then you get two sides. You can get stewed tomatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw, or fries. They might have different mains other than the fish sandwiches but I usually just go for that so I don't think I looked at anything else. It is cash only but there's an ATM on site and you can order ahead for pickup. But if you have the time I would say sit and wait and hang out there because they have a banjo band that will also play polka. It's a really great experience and the food is delicious. Just know that you might wait a little bit but it's worth it.

There was even a place to buy hot chocolate and soft pretzels after you're done ice-skating. The ice-skating is monitored so you don't have to worry about a bunch of crazy fools out there! An absolutely wonderful experience in the heart of Pittsburgh. Forgot to mention all the wonderful gingerbread houses on display from local schools. They are so unique and have many different themes. This year they had a big Ben clock house, a Heinz Field house, and my favorite, the West Coast Christmas gingerbread house. A great place for everyone for a fun night out in the city!

It's a free area that features a beautiful tree - surrounded by the seasonal arts and crafts of local school groups - and an array of "Santa" mannequins from cultures all around the world, carefully dressed and decorated to best reflect how that culture views Santa and celebrates the season. I admittedly use the word "Santa" loosely because some cultures don't have a Santa figure remotely resembling the one we know and love; the purpose of the display is to highlight different holiday traditions from around the globe - not just to talk about Santa himself. Because this is a glass building, the colors from the displays and holiday lights on the tree reflect and glow all around you; it adds to the festive atmosphere considerably. A Crazy Mocha ensures that you can warm up with a hot beverage and snack, perhaps if you stop in after ice skating at PPG. The decorations as a whole change a little bit year to year - this year there were no model trains, for example, which made me sad - but overall the place becomes a warm and beautiful escape from the Pittsburgh weather and holiday stress we all deal with. And the Santa mannequins always make an appearance no matter what. I admittedly don't know what this building is like sans Santa displays, but I do know that come the Christmas season I always visit this place at least once. It's a wonderful tribute to the many different ways people celebrate the season, and I appreciate seeing it every year - it's truly one of the best ways to get into the holiday spirit.

They shoot from the canon, people are dressed in costumes and tell stories from the period. Kids have interactive things they can try with toy guns talking to the soldiers. The museum itself is nice too. They have all kinds of artifacts that you can see. You can see a map and recreations of what things looked like back then. You can see how people lived, what they wore and the struggles they went through to fight for freedom and establish this area. There's a lot of talk about George Washington and how he worked with local Seneca chief guide, Guyasata. You get a general overview in school about Washington and the war but they give you more finite details and how it pertained to this area's growth. If you love history definitely check it out.

Yes, to be truthful, I was looking for a break from the obstinate weather, and the $8 admission was a small price to pay. I'm glad I did visit because the curators have taken an immersive approach in providing living history programs which included demonstrations from 18th-century "characters" in recreations of structures like a trader's cabin and soldiers' barracks. A new age theater in an old school building New Hazlett…read moreTheater is situated in the bones of the original Carnegie Hall on the Northside. Huge perk for this theater is the free parking! With a partnership with AHN, they direct you with ample signage and the lot is simple to enter right across from the theater! The area is beautiful and very safe! Tree lined sidewalks and clean areas around. The theater is a little outdated in entry. For a small capacity, you stood outside in line for an extended time due to a single ticket taker with a clipboard list. This delayed the performance by 15 minutes as he struggled to check people in. The lobby is centered around a bar for refreshments. The tickets are sold per section (A-D) without specific assigned seats. We set in the mezzanine and entered through the second floor. Some of the seats are "dangerous" with small catwalks and seats perched with no floor behind them. My friend actually lost her shoe mid performance as it fell through the opening. The productions are limited in set design and technology due to the theater size but there are plenty of plays and shows that don't require as much. If you have a chance to check out New Hazlett, I'd definitely recommend it.

There are resident companies that use the space, but various organizations and companies can also rent the space. Which means there is a nice mix of programming available. There are seats around the stage (which aren't always used for each performance) and upper and lower level seating. One thing to note is that their seats are not that wide, so if you are a larger patron or have a wider bottom, it will be a tight squeeze. Sight lines are great from everywhere and it is easy to hear. Parking is available for free in the garage right near the theater. A great place to catch a show!
